  1. Why didn´t you just double click your Lt. and then look for the pulsating green base under your vehicle? ;-)
  2. Sounds like a brilliant suggestion to me :-)
  3. I think you may be missing my point. Perhaps I wasn´t clear enough before. What I meant is: When someone with the title/tag "CMSF beta tester" is writing in this forum about CMBN I have no way of telling if he is actually a CMBN tester that has first hand knowledge of the game - or if he is "just" someone who used to test CMSF and thus haven´t played CMBN at all. Obviously the words of the former carry more weight that those of the latter. This is why I would like to know. Isn´t it possible to have the tag say "CMBN beta tester" or both: "CMSF and CMBN beta tester"?
  4. I´d like to bring up a minor point of irritation/confusion here: It seems to me that every tester involved in designing this wonderful new game we´re all waiting impatiently for bears the title "CMSF beta tester". Shouldn´t that be: "CMBN beta tester" (or: "CMBN and CMSF beta tester" if that is the case)? I´ve been assuming you would change the titles yourselves once the title "CMBN" was officially annonced - so I haven´t mentioned it before. I do mention it now because to me it is sometimes rather confusing that I don´t know whether the poster entitled "CMSF beta tester" is in fact precisely that. Or whether he is actually involved in testing CMBN but just carries an outdated title. It matters to me because the title will tell how much weight the words of the poster carries when it comes to describing CMBN.
  5. Maybe I´ve misunderstood your point, but if not, it seems like there´s a perfectly simple explanation: If the rounds were hitting any longer they would either: 1. Hit the Jagdpanzer or 2. Pass above the Jagdpanzer and end up miles away. That´s why you only see the traces of the rounds that are hitting short.
  6. I believe Elmar´s desciption of the german view on their nazi past is correct. The germans seem to me to be very well educated on the nazi atrocities and very focused on not letting history repeat itself. But to me is seems like this is slightly less the case in some of the parts of the country that used to be East Germany. It seems to me that this is the place where most of the neo nazis occur in Germany. My impression is that are several different reasons that the nazis have more following in the east than in the west: 1. The East German regime didn´t spend quite as much time and energy on "purging" the nazi ideology as was the case in the west. 2. Eastern Germany is still haven´t caught up with the west economically. Thus, there are large areas with mass unemployment and poverty, ideal conditions for nazi recruiters. The german members will probably correct me here ;-) As for my own country, Denmark (smallish thing protruding from northern Germany), the war is still hotly debated: Denmark got through the war very cheaply indeed, mainly because the danish government at the time choose to surrender only a couple of hours after the german invasion began on april 9th 1940. I think no more than a dozen or two danish soldiers were killed in the fighting before the surrender. Many still consider this a national disgrace (at the time some danish officers even felt their honor so blemished by the surrender that they joined the SS in order to restore their honor. Some logic!!). Many still debate whether surrender was the right decision. The arguments are something like this: Wrong decision: If the danish government had let the army fight we would surely have lost anyway, but it would have made Denmark choose side more clearly from the beginning of the war and the underground movement would have gained momentum from the onset. And maybe the resistance would have delayed the germans long enough for the british to reach Norway first (probably unlikely, though). Right decision: Denmark would have lost anyway, it would only be a question of the amount of casualties among the troops - and not least the civilians. The germans threatened to bomb Copenhagen if Denmark put up a fight, the result would have been the same as the bombing of Rotterdam a few weeks later, when the turn had come to the Netherlands: Same result, only with lots of more dead citizens. Generally speaking, you could say that in the first 30 years after the war, the general consensus was that every dane had been a member of the resistance movement. When younger historians started looking at events the also began digging up the uncomfortable truth about those who collaborated. Then the debate began in earnest. Personally, I think the most remarkable story about Denmark in the war is the jewish escape: When the germans in october 1943 decided to round up all danish jews and send them to the death camps, a german officer managed to warn the danish resistance movement ahead. This meant that huge underground operation began, striving to evacuate the danish jews across the strait Øresund to safety in Sweden. The evacuation - mainly in small fishing wessels - was a succes and 93 percent of the jews managed to escape.
  7. I wasn´t talking about the coding being simple - I know it isn´t. I was merely suggesting a way that would ensure - once such a feature had been developed - that the "purists" would be able to play a campaign without the having to endure the gamey experience of experience.
  8. Exactly my opinion: This is a GAME afterall, not a simulation. BTW, I think a fairly simple way to acommodate both the "gamey" (like me, apparently) and the "purists" would be the option to turn experience on/off when launching a campaign.
  9. Guess that means this is really more of a photo-op mission? ("Sorry you lost half your company guys. But on the bright side, mr. Capa got some really nice shots for Time") ;-) And yes: These are great screen shots indeed, Elvis. This game is surely looking promising. Can´t wait to see how this battle ends. (not to speak of getting my hands on a certain game)
  10. I think the BFC-beta tester communication ought to be top priority for wikileaks ;-)
  11. 13.000? Oh, no!! That must be a bad omen. CM:N is going to be fundamentally flawed....
  12. "4, 3, 2, 1 and 0!! OK, now. Let´s see. Now you´ll move west... ...Hey? What? Wait, guys!!! The minute is up. You´re supposed to freeze, while I issue your orders. Guys....?"
  13. Oh, my goodness!! Was that a bone, Steve? I guess it was. WOW....A BONE!!! MYGODABONEABONEABONEABONEABONE!!!THISMAYMEANTHATTHERELEASEISIMMINENT!!!HOOORAY!!!MYGODABONEABONEABONE!!!ORWAITMAYBEEITSABADSIGNMEANINGTHATTHEGAMEISDELAYEDANOTHEREIGHTMONTHS????OHMYGODABONEABONEABONEABONE!!! Ahem. Got a little carried away there. Very nice. Keep up the good work, lads. Cheers.
  14. I do. You´ve inadvertently tried to save the game "CM1 style". How do I know? I just did the same. :-)
  15. I did a little search on the subject and it seems I might be wrong, allthough I´m not entirely sure if Steve only means renaming squads/teams - not individual soldiers: http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=93584&highlight=unit+names&page=3 But it seems like BFC are at least considering the introducing the ability to rename units ...that´s at least how I read it. Sure hope so.
  16. I absolutely agree. But as far as I´ve understood, that´s not going to happen: IRC Steve stated that clearly in another thread recently.
  17. Hear, hear!! It´s great that you´ve released the NATO module, so you now finally will be able to focus on important matters. So BFC-guys: Quit wasting precious time reading these irrelevant NATO threads and get on with the REAL work. There will be plenty of time for dealing with CMSF minutae once the CM2 Normandy through Ostfront series has been completed. Now, get on with it ;-)
  18. I was in touch with him about two years ago. He then told me he didn´t play CM anymore. If I remember correctly, he hinted that he might return when CM2 WWII is released. Hopefully, with a new brilliant feature like the generator :-) Cheers
  19. Sound great, but this now makes me wonder: Will these decals and stuff then only be available in these later releases - or will you make some sort of patch-like thing that will make them available in the previously released modules - like for instance CM:N?
  20. LOL I actually hope that Battlefront is "doing a Operation Fortitude", though: I hope they catch us all completely off guard by releasing CM:Ostfront next week. Only problem being that this time the game will be hugely balanced in favor of the soviet side - as the majority of the axis troops will be in France, awaiting CM:N :-D
