  1. This is interesting if he is a marine or not, THe only think we really have to go on would be his army issued boots. I am not 100% sure of marine boots but they look very short and I remember most australian ww2 boots are very short. Here is some example http://medalsgonemissing.com/gallery/australian-army-jungle-boot.jpg Looking at the ankle support the first picture seems the correct boot, compare the the US Army/Marine boot. http://medalsgonemissing.com/gallery/ww1-boots-&-ww2-boots.jpg Here are american ankle boots http://www.medalsgonemissing.com/gallery/u.s.-army-boots(1).jpg Also the Shorts remind me of either british or australian Light kharkis. One of the many variants http://www.medalsgonemissing.com/gallery/second-world-war-aif-shorts.jpg Not sure what marine shorts look like. I still not sure, part of me thinks australia just the way he standing and posed. But that probably me being bias.
  2. Don't you know everyone is from the US that can speak english and if your not from the US they don't know where the hell your from. There is only the US and nowhere. <grin>
  3. Well I just got it in 15 minutes, and being in Australia I was amazed, but then again I am on the fastest non-business connection. Sorry Bulletrat I am on 200Gig here (Telstra Exteme) I had to up it so my wife could watch eposide of jersey shore and other crap
  4. Steve not trying to have a go at the game here, but I do not want to be playing mutliplayer with people only picking mortar teams only. Perhaps the demo are in ideal scenario here, I will need to wait and see, today after download my the full version today. But I think your missing the point, if you find mortars are to powerful your just going to kill off the fun aspect of this game. I suppose you can stick your fingers in your ears and go nah nah nah, that is your right. I suppose you have to because I am not the only one to voice the concern.
  5. Based on the mortar effectiveness, that is being raved about, and you can kill a squad in cover within 1 minute, that means a platoon in 3 minutes and a company with 3 different LOS mortar in the same amount of time. Why wasn't world war 2 over sooner? Sorry not sure what it is, but something is not right, if it is casualty rate or overstated accuracy?, but taking it on a macro scale rather then looking at it on such a micro scale, I was able to knock out two squads and a HMG with 2 DF mortars within 2 minutes. And on the other side I lost a 2 squads in heavy woods in 2 minutes. To a man! The delays are not 2 minute continual fire I normally play WEGO so the damage is normally complete within the first 4-6 rounds.
  6. Let me rephrase woeful to ( as expected ) but you see what I mean when you get direct fire happening you never go back to indirect fire again, it then make indirect fire woeful.
  7. Its not so much hugging the map the reason why you want to go over the hedgerows, it is because running down the road in the opening is stupid. I though low hedges would be passable, like cmx1 but obviously not. Not sure why they changed this. And why wouldn't you want to flank the town, it make tactical sense to get a fire position on a flank. I did do it until the 60mm mortars decided to wipe out a two squads in the woods. Woods obviously don't have the same protection they had in the past.
  8. Macisle, I would not get you hopes up to fast my experience after several runs AT guns die as quickly. But occassionaly like cmx1 you get a stubborn gun, the difference with cmx2 and spotting you just never quite sure if it is dead. But stick a 60mm mortar in direct role the gun is toast most times in the first 3 rounds. I run through 9 times and that been my experience
  9. Problem here is some fan boys are behaving like other game forums rather then taking the time to explain like umlaut has done. I agree with you to a degree its like your first car nothing will compare to that the new car does not smell or feel right and there are things you hate about it, or wished the old car had. There are a few things I am struggling with no armour covered arc, hunt on tank that stop at the slightest movement and the split personality 60mm mortar, superhero in direct role and woeful in indirect role. But I still suggest battling through it still the best game on the market, even if it does not have that old car smell
  10. Direct fire or in indirect approach, I find if it is not direct fire then you have a far less chance of hitting, but direct fire never need more then 5 or 6 shell to take out an AT, a squad, anything.
  11. The main problem is, we will see 20x 60mm mortars in multiplayer game, purely due to the fact they are so damn accurate. Plus mortar teams provide additional rifle support, it make them a must have in games. I am sure we will not hear the end of this when we start seeing the game out and mutliplayer. I had a 60 mm mortar team underfire by a platoon in the demo, they destroyed the whole platoon. To the point when the mortar round hit, they hit the exact square each squad member was in then went to the next square. Cmx1 the 60mm was a nuisance now it is the tiger on the cmx2 battlefield.
  12. Come on Moon about time for a nice little update, we saw the wargamers preview which was ages ago, it seemed ready to go and still we are hanging on the edge of our seats, I starting to get the familar feeling of Duke Nukem here. I think a time frame for release would be nice even if you over estimate it, I think many of us were thinking it would be soon after we saw the Wargamers preview.
  13. I got a differing opinion on the dumb ai move. If the commader in charge of the group was cautious or incomptent and that move across the river was infact AI-scripted then I say 'all the better'. That is some nice AI, we know the commanders rating already involves what decisions the ai makes in attacking or being cautious, but it be nice to not know what the AI is planning and make some incomponetent mistakes if the commander is imcopontent. AI always moving forward is predictable, like in cmbb actual game, i just set up a defence and let them run into my bulk, having a little bit of unpredictablity is always good, even if the AI makes mistakes.
  14. Since there is a full aar i am hoping we just looking at polish now, my opinion is release to beta please, or release and go for a patch. in this instance I am a firm believe of give us what you got even if it is 95% there and work the polish out later, I am biting my nails off in waiting I so just want to play it, regardless even if it is in alpha form. I live witht he bugs and crashes and you can quote me.
  15. If I remember rightly all the maps need to be made by humans and brought into the game prior to playing the campaign. I suppose you could have for some people a auto generated map by doing all the mapfirst then dropping them in, but the flag and various other components must be made into the campaign before you run it.
  16. Nice screenie, now where is my beta testing acceptance email <smile>
  17. I got a feeling it is russian, by the colouring, looks like it has a rusty drum on the back of it indicated. I going to go with the obvious T34, this is without going through a thousand bitmaps to find out what else had oild drums on the rear.
  18. Interesting another piece of evidence with tanks collapsing trenches on overrunning infantry positions. And in a training video of all things. Training videos although propoganda for tank crews still show methods it considered a viable options in combat.
  19. The way I have done hoi it more so simulating a 1-2 battalion effort in the overall battle so I take notes of what happens in the division side scale if the overall division wins then I modify the set of attributes to simulate the battle. So if they attack and win then it will be an attacking battle, and then place the various units that would counterattack after a period of time. With air it the same sort of deal but I just give them a percentage of possible entry onto the battlefield, considering that the likehood of turning up in the battalion I am commanding is rare its normally set between 2 and 5% from turn 1 How do you do the intergration between hoi and cmbb. ----------------------------------------- On a side not for vista users, has anyone used virtual PC to load on XP and try and run it via virtual pc, I know VPC is not made for 3d application graphics but due to the age of this game it still may run ok. It definately worth an investigate. Virtual PC is a free download from microsoft which allows you to run simuleantous OSs at the same time. [ May 28, 2008, 02:22 AM: Message edited by: Ardem ]
  20. LOL Cambronne done that as well actually planning to do it again, when cmc comes out to make it even more layers of complexity. I love the factor how I can mix the strategic elements such as technology and resources and mix it in with a tactical scale.
  21. I think your missing the point JuergenSS. It is a Divisional/Regiment level mixed in with cmbb battles. Anyone can correct me if I am wrong but, what happens you have the start of an operation, say its the entry of one of the Waffen SS division into the outskirts of Kharkov. You will have a number of battalions or companies to move around with supporting elements. These elements all have there own TOE (Table of Equipment), you come to a point where you have contact between your element and an enemy element. It will give you the choice of playing the battle or autoresolving. The TOE for both side gets put onto the map and you fight it out, once the battle is over the new CM will create a file that will be send to CMC to make adjustments to the TOE. You then keep continuing on and on. I am assuming other casualties are make in the TOE such as indictation by aircraft or artillery. Also dependant on the amount of causties that happen in a CM game they can go up or done experience, which come up on the next battle. Hope that explains it better for you, I been fortunate enough to meet Bruce and see the game first hand a year ago or the year before I forget (at pucka) and it looked 99% completed then but I know in development the last 1% always takes the longest. Good Luck to the guys in getting this to us soon. If you look at it this way HOI would be strategic (as it covers all the whole war) TAOW I this is best at theatre level operational SC2 I would see as army level operational CMC Sits here at regiment/division operations CM Sits here at battalion, company level engagement [ May 24, 2008, 03:35 AM: Message edited by: Ardem ]
  22. Hell ages ago, I got to dig up my maps (so I be ready when this comes out) but I was doing Crimea 1941. The march into the neck. You don't need famous battle to make create scenarios that are still fun to play, the beauty of this any divisional style engagement can be made into a map and fun to play. As for CMBB or CMAK they will still reign top of the ladder for most people until there is a (battalion level) WW2 game that has better graphic, better AI and a few extra options. I do not even believe the first installments of CMx2 WW2 will wet people whistle until there is a few addon out. In many respects I am happy they working out he kinks in CMx2 SF, so when it comes to WW2 it will be a fast turn around time
  23. Can I just purchase the beta copy. that way I am sure to be accepted.
  24. Being a gamer first I can appeciate someone's efforts in skinning and trying to expand the game as far beyond its inital uses. Being a modder myself I know the effort that goes into this stuff and well done on your job. (UT TC modder, not for CM) Even if imagination is needed, hell I remember when a cross of a piece of paper was a spitfire. That needed a hellva lot of imagination. The real shame is unlike most other games out there Battlefront is not willing to give out this game and allow it to be fully modded. And concentrate on making game engines rather then games. Modders only enhance the ability of games not detract.
