  1. occassionally with the large squads some troops will wander out of the dead ground to higher ground and be exposed and shot when moving. Especially crawling. It seems they have no sense of formation or using ground elevation for cover. But over all the game is sheer brilliance.
  2. I kind of see where Andross is coming from, the mechanics of CFSF are fine, but some people just can't get around the asymetrical warfare, or the bland lighting/terrain effects of the middle east. Some people I said. Everyone has their own opinion. Or maybe WW2 is the niche preferred, over modern era. CMBN has canals, argriculture, forests, bridges groves, lush and populated with objects. Warfare can be symetrical, PzIV vs Sherman, Stug vs Wolverine, squad vs squad. If you wanted to play it that way. Not saying CMSF is not play balanced by any means. Just that it may be possible for people to like CMBN over CMSF as long as they like and understand the game mechanics between the two.
  3. As a senior member of Battlefront, I say April some year.
  4. Now you did it....You asked that which should never be asked.....Forgive him lord Battlefront he no not what he sayeth..........
  5. I guess the CMBN forum peaked too early.
  6. Although Napalm was present in WW2 it was getting requested by ground troops specifically and became the standard air dropped munitions of choice near the end of the Korean war. It was found to be effective on entrenched enemies on reverse slopes (no pun intended) as was often the case in hilly Korea.
  7. A little surprised at this, reminds me of the ink spot trenches in CMBO. But fog of war is important for hasty defences so it makes sense. As ali-baba said it seems there were some TOW dug outs in CMSF. For established defenses with wire and tetra hedra, there would be no need for FOW in that type of defensive trench position. Maybe not so prevalent in Normandy as compared to the Russian front.
  8. there is another thread on this subject just search it out
  9. I saw your pics and vid. Seems two separate LOS issues are at play here. 1. Graphical representations of trees are not matching the way the grid is coded, or the other way around. Comments from sneaksie I think go along with that. Trees are coded as an obstructed single grid surrounded by a semi obstructed ring if I understand correctly. But the graphic portrays a thick, densley branched tree more than a single grid, not a high crowned tree. 2. The second issue are these blockages in line of site on a clear path. Could there be coding for an object on that grid that was removed and not re-rendered. I dunno maybe I'm way off.
  10. Tow 1 = no building occupation so its dead to me now that Tow2 is on the scene. @Vinnard, good ideas on squad manipulation. Brings into light the importance of soldier attributes, ie rank.
  11. Updated control system focusing more on squads and not on individual soldiers. This is a feature listed in the upcoming TOW3-Korea. Any details on this? More bones please.....
  12. Tow was the first game I started using trigger scripts with and it gets easier with practice. You can really get units to mimic smart tactics and drills, only problem the scripter knows all the secrets. Anyways... why don't you cut and paste your script on the forum and someone can try to figure out if you made a syntax error or something, and see why they don't work.
  13. there's almost no point to playing Tow 1 anymore with Tow 2 and Kursk out. Tow one has no buildings you can enter. Also there are graphic, physics, and weapons behaviour improvements in Tow 2.
  14. I haven't played the german campaign yet but was wondering. The battle that epitomizes Kursk is the clash at Prokhorovka where Hoth loses 350 tanks at the end of the day. Is there a meeting engagement that represents this battle.
  15. Seems like there are already new Normandy and Russian front Games coming out that are comparible to TOW. I think to be different the next rendition of TOW should encompass Italy as a West Front campaign.
  16. about 50 cal, I had problems getting them to shoot out of the bunkers, I'm not sure if that is related to the height of the bunker lip vs the height of the tripod. Maybe crew served weapons would seem more realistic if they were handled like in achtung panzer where a whole squad acompanies the weapon. possibly representing ammo bearers and picket security, or HQ staff for the weapons.
  17. yep, if Squad Assault represented them pretty good I don't see why this gem couldn't. It would distinguish engineer squads and heavy assault squads.
  18. Just a slight rant at all games in general not taking advantage audio to provide info to the player. In one of the close combats (2 I think?) if a squad leader was killed, a voice could be heard yelling "sarge"! If it was a platoon leader "lieutenant"! If a squaddie got shot by a sniper, audio voices would actually exclaim "sniper!". As a bit of a joke they also threw in a "kowalski!" everytime this actual U.S. soldier in a squad named kowalski got killed. This could be expanded on to provide auditory information to the player rather than reading whats going on. Such as "2nd squad just lost half its men"....."stuart tank taking effective fire"....."MG42!" Instead of having voices randomly exclaim things like "there's too many" or groan and wince they should actually state something useful. there are text messages, I know, but i never think to look there, too busy looking at the environment.
  19. Its pretty obvious you have too much computing power for this game thats the problem. Whats on the 260 card 1.8gb ram?..... Just kidding pretty impressive.
  20. Sidi Bou best mission, a defensive turkey shoot. But the counter attack was challenging and I found I had to carve the pie with my tanks, not expose them to the US TD, look for hull down. Hated Kasserine. I tried a full frontal, hung back and used ground fire with my tanks. This worked but my tanks were out of ammo when the brit valentines counter attacked. Second try I sent all my infantry up the pass to get behind the 3 british cannon. It was like hurding cats trying to lob smoke while the guns would hit the exposed guys and anyone nearby. The ones that made it behind the burm which is too far for grenades were cut down when they tried to throw grenades. No way 4 squads could sneak up on and throw enough grenades to overpower 3 guns. 3rd try I used a smaller squad and sacrificed 1 guy at a time as suicide bombers, with single grenade attacks over and over. eventually the grenades got lucky. I liked sbeitla, tough to figure out whats going on with the hidden guns. I won this with only 8 guys left.
  21. Thanks, thats it! ROFL this new fangled windows is everything the mac guy says it is. I was better off taking my chances with the trojans and viruses.
  22. I finished successfully the american 2nd mission. Saved the game. The next day went to play the third mission of the campaign and it was locked. Should it not be unlocked and progress autosaved?
  23. After the first German campaign mission. I see the blue and red tally screen. Go to hit "continue" to proceed to the awards screen but never get there. I drop to desk top every time. I played the US camp, finished the first mission and no problem, saved game, dished out experience etc. I have Win 7 premium, and start as admin. Not sure what the problem is. I know this didn't happen on my old computer with this game.
