  1. I have a 6.5 y/o athlon computer with a 512mg AGP card. The demo played smooth for me. But the full version I found is slower especially when the flames start on multiple knocked out tanks. But hey my computer does not meet minimum specs recommended in all fairness.
  2. just my opinion for what its worth.... Pros: -Graphics and sounds much more detailed and appealing. -The canned missions in the campaigns seem to flow better than TOW 1. -Troops gather ammo and weapons on their own quickly -you can enter buildings and pill boxes -smoke by arty or grenades -Its only $35 -good damage and physics model (like TOW1) -battle generator, modding tools, map maker, scripting tools with manuals -selectable morale i.e. turn panic off Cons: -much Fewer units to select in the battle generator -still the occasional suicide by grenade -sometimes enemy troops run right past each other without so much as a wave - same TOW 1 battle generator, hard to see yellow markers on desert templates General observations: -point and click menu is radically different than TOW 1. Features more options but it is important to learn what a left click does and what right click options are available in the sub-menus.
  3. Infantry vs infantry I think the kill ratio is pretty realistic in the game TOW2. Whether you are hit in the thigh, arm, or gut with a 7.92 mauser its all the same result...combat ineffective. Where the infantry kill ratio is exagerated is Tank vs Infantry perhaps
  4. filesid does not include the new squad teams either. Are the new squads in this mod a remodelled unit? Like the Falschirmjager fg42? Or is it the desert heer helmet guys with the Italian side box mg.
  5. IMO the HMG MG42 now seem about right and much improved over TOW1. My squad was engaged crossing the river fording at 330 meters from a dug in HMG. The first burst Killed 1 and wounded 1. I figured as in TOW 1 the rifles would return fire, overtake the HMG and I'd win the day. Second 15 round burst killed another. My squad went to ground and scattered. 2 more bursts wounded 3 more and my remaining troops crawled away lucky to be alive.

  7. Yes beautiful. I'm timing my purchase of a new computer ( its been over 6 years) just to enjoy this game in all its splendor. It had to evolve from something i.eTOW 1. Remember how clunky and ugly close combat 1 was compared to CC2?

  10. Sometimes Paul timing is everything. My comp is 7 years old and I've been holding off getting a new PC waiting for the right game to come along. For TOW Kursk I'm definitely getting a gaming rig now prior to purchasing the game. Only the really old games become obsolete. I know dual processors can present a problem for some. really looking forward to playing this game.
  11. OK you hate TOW. You and Twan are the same person. I get it. hehe Seriously tho I never noticed repeated ineffective direct hits from the shreks in the game. Maybe rarely. So should it never ever happen? Well players would be more content to see the results occur as they expect. So sure, this should not happen. I piped in cause I played this game almost daily since it came out and found shreks and zooks and even fausts modelled pretty true.
  12. Gawd I hope the terrain and map art are graphically improved over CMSF. As for if the schrek shoulda killed the cromwell. They Kill T 34 '43 pretty good, just about right actually. Sometimes the exception applies. You have to be on the receiving end of a shrek to see what happens, usually the crew is greyed out or stunned, one or more may have been killed. Then the crew performs a switch out and you can drive off if the damage is compartmentalized. Sometimes they bail too. Each creman has attributes, I think applies to their panic.
  13. In the previous installments of WAW one could not coordinate an attack on the russians on two fronts and have the Japanese Link up withthe Nazi's in White Russia. The Japanese were not "allowed" to advance west which kind of ruined any chance of a what if and made the game seem too historically scripted. Is this possible now?
  14. I am having a problem with the mod. The mini map on the top left I see only the bottom right quarter of it, the rest is offscreen. Is it tied to screen resolution maybe?
  15. OK been a long time but I remember something like this. You have 4 tigers and a whole bunch of cromwells are about to come down a road from the edge of the map. As you face the direction the brit tanks are approaching from, place the tigers well to the left of the road past the house into the tree hedge line. But lined up. And far range back. Make sure the tanks are on Hold position and the gunners have selected High Aim. Now the cromwells will leave the road they will approach you head on. Fire at long range and pick your target, take time to change targets once the brit tank's gun is damaged. Important not to keep firing at a damaged tank and move to a fresh kill. The tigers have range so make sure they are back. Now not so fast once the cromwells are dead. You can approach the nearest farm. Problem, AT guns will spawn there. Send a man out , you may have a halftrak too, try to trigger the enemy to spawn but dont use your tanks to do it. Now keeping your tanks out of a slug match start peppering 88 HE from the tigers by area attack. This takes lots of micromanaging but there is no threat to you. Dont get too close to the other farm complex at the end of the map because they will spawn too and then you'll get it from all sides. Once the AT guns have been bombed out you can roll in the tiggers to MG the troops. Watch out for piats and an archer tank wich will appear as you get close. Don't slug it out with the AT guns the ROF is high and they'll knock your tracks off. So micro the indirect fire as close as possible.
  16. IIRC the physics engine in Tow 1 does not handle trajectories very well so motars and grenade launchers are not included. On a side note I often wondered if artillery strikes could be tied into on map units being the source. For example call in a barrage and have the 15cm howitzers on map start their firing animations.
  17. The way I do it is to is to open the campaign xml file with notepad found in the Theatre of War\Missions\SINGLE_MISSIONS. Delete the paragraph of text from and including <mission> to </mission> for the scenario you wish to delete. This will take it out of the game screen menu list. I then delete the folder in the single_missions directory that pertains to the one I want to get rid of.

    COH vs TOW ?

    TOW should run well on that system unless there is some incompatability with drivers or something. My system is not as good as that and tow runs pretty good
  20. Thats awsome, I am really pleased to see these. Especially the 75mmIG. That little pumpkin launcher was mounted on everything. Be great if the SdKfz 233 armoured car chassis were modded as well. Looking forward to this. Does the rear MG34 work as well?
  21. The campaign resource pool has a capability to carry units forward from one battle to the next, but is not always used, meaning slots are not reserved. Results in the feeling of one battle being disjointed from another in the campaign.
  22. LoL, and here I am thinking I could win this by linking up the Jap and German armies. I aint gonna last another game year now.
  23. Im in the middle of a game and suddenly realzed I cant get my jap armies to use the exit tiles in russia to go west. There is an arrow in the middle of a lake but how do you use it. ...come to think of it why wouldn't a 2d map scroll globally in this day and age anyways? ...Its like I'm back in the 386DX days woohoo!
  24. I don't think tanks had that kind of advanced ammunition in WW2. Only Tungsten was about far as technology got.
  25. really this game compares on every level to squad assault. Both true real time tactical strategy WW2 games taken to the team and individual vehicle concept. This game is leaps and bounds ahead of squad assault on all levels except for building occupation where it fails. I played this game long enough to know its pretty good and it gave me a good run. I hope it continues to evolve and TOW 3 and 4 are on a distant horizon. The new shock force is a very different control concept to me. Although not a bad game I just like the way TOW feels better.
