  1. Re CMBN , i believe (IMO) many of the initial problems with the release of CMSF were much to do with the new CMx2 game engine that now , after several patches an modules works like a dream. CMBN is based on this same CMx2 game engine, many of the problems that plagued the CMSF initial release were ironed out. Would expect a much better standard of software upon the release of CMBN.
  2. good effort ... now if you can just bring yourself to finish the rest of the game this evening too then we can sack BF
  3. Thanks for the reply. Your comments above are good news indeed , less gamey , more realistic. Will totally have to re-write my tactical notes by the sounds of it
  4. "Personally I think Warren's big mistake was not performing any recon to try and ID what I had before committing his main force" I had always played CMx1 in a different way , the aim was to get all your Armour over a summit at the same time to get maximum guns on a probably single target with the aim of having less losses (i.e Napoleon style put all your guns in once place for max effect). Units coming over a summit one by one could be picked off one by one by a single enemy asset as they had time to reload. Granted i was playing the AI and CMx2 is a different beast.
  5. Amazing stuff ! Its almost a shame this level of detail is hidden from the end user ... unless they want to investigative and understand the mechanics. Its a massive selling point IMO. I guess to a degree the in game results speak for themselves what made the result will be largely unknown unless you go looking , replay a lot too.
  6. 1.taking the designed for effect out of the equation and applying the physics of the simulative environment does that mean that the tank has an area designated "ammo" and therefore if a shell hits it will likely explode ? (curious to know how you code up for this when not using design for effect) ... 2. if it doesn't explode how do you decide why not ? 3. does the same then apply to fuel tanks too ? (i understand from the other thread re targeting that you cannot specifically target for these areas but target the centre of gravity). the mind boggles.
  7. see now im starting to think you are letting Bil win ... (queue you agreement and therefore face saving excuse for the impending defeat )
  8. Arty top hits on tanks will be in am sure , have used 120mm mortars on top of T55s in SF a few times to take them out.
  9. Is it any easier to identify which units your KIA bodies were associated with when reviewing the map after a battle ? Just finished another go at CMSF 3:10 to YUMA it can be a bit frustrating trying to find where the X KIA's occurred. Why not simply leave them on the map ?
  10. no it does not qualify , taking that a bit to far me thinks
  11. Try downloading CMSF 3:10 to YUMA from the Repository, i think this is the best CMSF mission i have played to date. Like you i lost interest in CMSF after the first release only to be persuaded to re examine it last September. It really does have a its place and works very well.
  12. hmm, agree that is a worry. Will see how it pans out.
  13. CMBO ? , gees that was a while back. Think i got the demo after spotting a review in a PC gamer magazine back in 1999 (maybe early 2000). Was a Close Combat fan prior , the benefits of 3D were obvious and i was hooked.
  14. Just my opinion no offence intended but the Peng challenge thread doesn't exactly say we are a friendly bunch. Understand its a bit of fun for the participants but i don't think it does the forums image much good. IMO of course
  15. Never thought about doing that in CMSF ! thanks for the tip. Things are normally too hectic or there is a lack of safe path to ammo dump and back again i guess. Also i never really notice when sqauds are out of ammo. Thing this will be more obvious in CMBN with dedicated heavy MG teams.
  16. some info here but its not exactly conclusive. http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=95231
  17. Thank you for the explanation, understood.
  18. How do you actually use EXIT ZONES out of interest ? I was playing CMSF 3:10 TO YUMA yesterday and placing unit(s) on an EXIT ZONE and as far off the map as possible had no effect ... the POINTS TALLY at the end confirmed this. Units appear to just sit in the zone.
  19. Just looking at that thread link and spotted the following by Steve re CMBN: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 09-18-2009, 08:30 PM Battlefront.com Administrator Join Date: Feb 1999 Posts: 13,532 As for release we've decided we're not going to rush things to get it out by Christmas as originally planned. We would rather enjoy the Holidays Our goal, however, is to have it mostly done before taking some time off at the end of the year. That is still our plan and we're still thinking it is possible. We'll know much better in a month. Steve ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So when Steve says BF wont rush things he wasnt joking was he (09/18/09 post to 05/01/11 ish actual release date). So glad it took me until Sept 2010 to find out about CMBN , that would have been torture. Better its not rushed i know.
  20. great videos, i just love watching the TIGER I its a beautiful beast ...... there is such a thing as a "tank fest" !!!
