  1. I'm going to assume even Combat Mission 1x veterans should try a few practice scenarios before jumping into the Campaign, getting their arse handed to them and then having to restart with the first scenario of the Campaing spoiled for them. For those who have played the game does this sound like good advice?
  2. I doubt anyone will try modding CMSF to WWII or WWI. The modern weaponry just won't fit and Battlefront will be developing their WWII game next anyway. However I'm sure you will see mods for both Gulf Wars and a host of brush wars using the Red vs Red capability.
  3. Bump to give Beta testers another chance to answer.
  4. Yep, they seem to think a hypothetical Nato/Warsaw Pack game would be a poor seller. Maybe they're right. Maybe Sci Fi is the way to go for game three if your looking for sales. Drop Team will be an old game before we get CMX2 #3. I don't mind if they go with what sells because it will give them the resources to produce what I really want: France 1940.
  5. Expect to get asked what took you so long to join the Army by your Drill Sergeants.
  6. If I may add a correction, Battle of the Bulge or Kursk or Stalingrad would be games series, not modules. For example you would have Bulge basic game: U.S. Army vs Wehrmacht. Bulge module 1 would add British and SS, and Bulge module 2 could add U.S. Airborne and Fallschirmjaegers (though you might want the Airborne first given the importance of the 101st at Bastogne). Personally, I think this will be the second WWII game series after France summer 44.
  7. 30 years ago this summer I was going through Basic at Ft. Sill Oklahoma. No time for anything except a few letters not that we could do anything else anyway. I was so tired at times I fell asleep standing up. They tried to scare you at AIT saying it was worse than basic but after the first two weeks we had weekends off and I was able to see Star Wars twice in Lawton. I also played Panzer Leader with a guy who had brought a copy. Didn't even have Atari back then but it didn't matter since there was only one T.V. for a few hundred guys in the Rec room.
  8. Wow another know it all. You don't have any idea as to how many chances Lone Syrian was previously given or what a real asshole he is. Oh but you know better because a lot of the people on this forum are hypocritical and naive. I really think you need to learn a few things yourself about the many fine people on this forum before you start preaching at us again.
  9. Didn't we already have the Battleship moving sideways debate?
  10. Whatever it is I don't expect a third game till 2010.
  11. Yes, I should have said "no airmobile" and the support helicopters are non-visual.
  12. I don't think Battlefront has decided yet themselves. They did once mention that their long range plan was that only two of the first 5 games would be WWII. Given that, I'm guessing they will go pre-twentieth century for the 3rd game. I don't think it will be Napoleonic since we'll be getting Les Grognards. After that I think two good possibilities would be American Civil War or Middle Ages since they would have wider appeal then other candidates. My hunch would be ACW since it'd be less of a stretch. Additional modules could include the Indian Wars. I think the Indian Wars would have an high appeal to Europeans as well.
  13. Sorry Zwinship you're going to have a long wait. No helicopters or amphibious operations in the USMC module.
  14. RE: Lack of a tutorial; is the "Training Center" in game or not? It seems all those talking about a lack of a tutorial are missing this point.
  15. I think you have to accelerate a wormhole to the speed of light or something like that and it can work.
  16. You mean sort of a Pope Gregory type of thing?
  17. Agreed. What I mean is Jens mentions some books about a North Korean attack which I assume means an advance into the South. From what I've read the ROK Army could handle the North without U.S. help and such an Northern offensive would be rather unlikely. The fact that the North can hold the city of Seoul hostage with its artillery tubes is the main deterence to either the South or the U.S. starting a war.
  18. I didn't think the North would be capable of an offensive other than shelling the hell out of Seoul.
  19. How about sleep until release date? Lots of alcohol can help achieve this.
  20. Hey we had Pacific mods for the CMX1 games. Give the Modders some time and it can happen. Language was always the toughest thing to mod. Only happened once; German to Spanish for CMBB IIRC.
  21. You could fling the Peng thread contributors.
  22. Not to hijack the thread, but the first solitare war games I can think of were Fall of Rome, 1973, Operation Olympic, 1974, and Wolfpack, 1975, all by SPI and Strategy and Tactics issue games.
