  1. It's because it's against the forum rules and could get you banned, though I have only seen that happen when directed against another person.
  2. More chrome (sigh). Has Steve gone over to the Dark Side? </font>
  3. I've heard the Finnish in CMBB was pretty colorful. Which reminds me, I haven't seen Sergei around these boards in a while. Any one else have?
  4. I'm assuming you're playing the English version. I can't say I've noticed any either. I remember CMAK had the Americans saying "Give them Hell boys!" and that was the worst of it. Perhaps some of the other language versions have some swearing.
  5. IIRC they sent Sheridans with the 82nd to Saudi Arabia after the Iraqis invaded Kuwait in the First Gulf War. I think it's unlikely we'll see either Sheridan's or M113's, but I like Clavicula_Nox would like to see an armored HumVee as well as some of the other vehicles on the "planned" list that were not included. M1TC your mod is nice but it doesn't have the in game stats to go with it.
  6. I interpret that as it being easier for Charles to add new vehicles to the code and make engine changes, but Dan's work building and drawing 3-d models with many more polygons takes longer.
  7. For kicks and in the spirit of the "WWII variety" thread I dug up the "planned" vehicles list, which you can still find up on this website and compared it to the U.S. vehicles that actually made the cut. I'm sure time constraints were the main reason these vehicles didn't appear in the initial release, though I read the Stryker mortar carrier was dropped as it would almost always remain off board. So here is the list. My question is what are the chances we'll see some of these planned but not included vehicles in the USMC module? US INCLUDED M114 HMMWV M1114 HMMVW (with M240 MG) M1114 HMMVW (with M2 HMG) M707 Knight M1126 Stryker ICV (Infantry Carrier Vehicle) w/ M2 HMG M1126 Stryker ICV (Infantry Carrier Vehicle) w/ Mk-19 GL M1127 Stryker RV (Reconnaissance Vehicle) w/ M2 HMG M1127 Stryker RV (Reconnaissance Vehicle) w/ Mk-19 GL M1128 Stryker MGS (Mobile Gun System) M1130 Stryker CV (Commander's Vehicle) M1131 Stryker FSV (Fire Support Vehicle) M1132 Stryker ESV (Engineer Support Vehicle) M1134 Stryker ATGM (Anti Tank Guided Missile) M2A3 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) M3A3 Bradley Cavalry Fighting Vehicle (CFV) M7A3 Bradley BFIST M1A1HC Abrams (Heavy Common) M1A1SA Abrams (Situational Awareness upgrade) M1A2 Abrams M1A2 SEP Abrams (Systems Enhancement Package) US Planned M1114 HMMWV M1046A2 HMMWV TOW Carrier M1044A1 HMMWV Armament Carrier M1123 Heavy HMMWV Cargo/Troop Carrier M1126 Stryker ICV (Infantry Carrier Vehicle) M1127 Stryker RV (Reconnaissance Vehicle) M1128 Stryker MGS (Mobile Gun System) M1130 Stryker CV (Commander's Vehicle) M1131 Stryker FSV (Fire Support Vehicle) M1132 Stryker ESV (Engineer Support Vehicle) M1134 Stryker ATGM (Anti Tank Guided Missile) M1129 Stryker MC (Mortar Carrier) M2A3 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) M3A3 Bradley Cavalry Fighting Vehicle (CFV) M7 Bradley FIST M1A1HC Abrams (Heavy Common) M1A1HC SA Abrams (w/ Situational Awareness upgrade) M1A2 SEP Abrams (w/ Systems Enhancement Package) M1A1 Abrams with various TUSK component upgrades M1A2 Abrams with various TUSK component upgrades M1078 Standard Cargo Truck M1083 Standard Cargo Truck M978 Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) M985 Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT)
  8. I had an Abrams bog down on a slope. At least I assume it was bogged as I never could get it to move again. I was wondering, however, where can I check the status of the vehicle to read that it definitely is bogged? It's not obvious like the Cmx1 series, at least to me it wasn't. I searched the manual and found no answer. Thanks.
  9. Just thought I'd add Moon once said Up Front was his favorite "board" war game. For those who don't know, Up Front is a card version of Squad Leader (and yes both Moon and I know that makes it not really a "board" game then, but you know what he meant). Up Front too could become a labyrinth of rules as additional weapons and circumstances were added, but like Squad Leader I found you need not play with the kitchen sink every game. The advantage of a board game over a computer game in this day of Photoshop is that you can, and I have, added my own counters and rules to games to satisfy my own interests. Computer programming takes more time and money and is more complex in that every addition has the potential of breaking something else, not just for you, but for every one else. I think we will see some of the additions people are asking for but I also think Battle Front has, so far, set its priorities right. What I think the advantage of a computer game is over a board game is fog of war, and the new spotting features make the most of that advantage in order to improve the game much more than some of the other features asked for would. P.S. Not sure if Steve was joking. Will we really have a chance of seeing horses in a WWII game or will that have to wait for a pre-twentieth century game?
  10. Good choices. We won't be seeing any anti tank guns, however, at least until they do animations for the crews for the WWII game. As I posted earlier, I'd like to get an estimate as to when we'll see a vehicle list. Oh, and welcome to the forums.
  11. You mean for spraying into a room to look for trip wires right? I always wondered if that was real or a joke hoax. How about those little robots with the camera on them that are used to enter a building to look for traps, ambushes etc. What are they called? Huntarr, am I right that you're a beta-tester for the USMC module?
  12. I wouldn't say we'll never get the unusual stuff, we'll just have to pay for it in add on modules. My expectation is once it's all said and done we'll actually see more vehicles covering the western front after the first two WWII games are done along with their modules. Maybe I'll be wrong but I have hopes.
  13. No it was MikeyD. Vlad Templar aka M1a1Tankcommander did the mountain horizon. Opps as I was adding the second line as an edit the next posts came in. [ March 08, 2008, 10:13 AM: Message edited by: Sequoia ]
  14. I've heard that regarding CMBB. I recall in WWII USMC tactics allowed for a higher rate of casualties in battles in order to not keep the invasion fleet exposed off the shore for an extended time period. I don't know if that still holds true today. Certainly the Marines are still considered elite infantry and should usually have high morale levels set by the scenario designers. But, you're right, in the past BFC has made it scenario dependent rather than making any one force automatically superior. Tactics, though, are controlled by the player. I'm wondering if it's just the makeup of the USMC TO&E that should lead to them being used differently by the player for most effectiveness or will their be something more to it than that?
  15. Yes, Marine squads are bigger. 3 4-man fire teams each with its own SAW and 203, so expect Marine infantry to kick out more firepower. Marine sniper teams are 2-man teams, sniper and spotter. These guys are the stuff legends are made from. Marines have less artillery support than comparable Army formations (unless they are making an amphibious landing and then the Navy lends its support), but they have a boat load more direct air support. </font>
  16. Here's the most definitive answer to the WWII module quest I know of, at least as it stood in 2006. I later conjectured the Commonwealth module would add Waffen SS for the Germans.
  17. Trying to read the Battlefront team's minds, if they do a Sci-Fiction game, and it's still a big if , it would have to remain squad based rather then man to man, as I suppose the modifications necessary to the engine would be quite extensive to change it to man to man. As such, and given their propensity to "keep it real" possibly even in a sci fi setting I feel they would chose not to do something in the far future but rather something in, say, 2050. They would extrapolate current trends and perhaps create a battlefield where much of the frontline fighting is done by remote control vehicles and robots. Now when I say robot, I don't mean something like in the movie "I, Robot" but something that looks more like the Mars-lander. It would have a low profile and run around on six wheels with cameras for it's operator and a weapon or two. Humans would be in reserve. Perhaps electronic counter measures would require the vehicle and robots to be wire controlled by their operators, meaning the humans wouldn't be too far behind the front. Any way that's one such extrapolation of current trends. I'm sure others can think of more.
  18. Wasn't that actually Luke Skywalkers reply to Darth Vader saying "I am your Father Luke" </font>
  19. Well, there's always this possiblity of Blue Uncons. This was taken from a two year old post so a lot could have changed since then.
  20. Beautiful, but that reminds me, any one hear from Andrew T F lately?
  21. Mikey, have you considered making a Somailia aka Black Hawk Down scenario or is there already one I'm not aware of?
  22. I'd like to see burnt out vehicles as well as abandoned ones. My feeling is the only vehicles that would be left behind as a invading force approached would be inoperable ones and those damaged by incoming arty etc.
  23. Well said Mikey, e.g. everyone wanted King Tigers in CMAK.
