  1. OK, I know I have come on here before and declared my interest in finding an opponents but then failed to follow through and challenge anyone or what have you and find an opponents, but, this time is different. So I have been trying to get my local friends to try a combat mission x2 game since shock force, hot seat at my place or have them download the demo or have one of the extra copies I bought, but it never worked. UNTIL it finally did happen just a little while ago! My super young friend and I played the first 9 or so turns of the smallest CMFI scenario, the meeting engagement, and it was an action packed blast!! I have barely been able to play at all by myself since then cause it was SO much funner! And I love the game single player already. So, now that I finally have my internet back up I need to find some more people to play with, or at least one more. and PBEM is a much better format for my crashy computer than hotseat. I'm inclined to challenge SBurke since we live in the same awesomest area but I don't have anything mean to say to him. Lol And I know from the forum hes got a lot of PBEM on his plate already. Anybody low on opponents?
  2. you can also adjust it, which is such a good option for preplanned that it seems THAT might be gamey. You can even set the preplanned mission for really slow and long fire and just move it around as needed, or cancel it if you are just wasting rounds.
  3. I think I just looked it up and it appears to be a regular ass 76 mm towed tank gun. if they really shoot those plane it musta been a miracle.
  4. So you checked the damage display and it isn't from the tracks being trashed by mortars? do they speed up if you move them on the road?
  5. No Way! I mean its possible but holy smokes! Do you believe those account? especially the first? I mean how does a 76mm crew shoot 7 airplanes along with everything else? just that good of shots? lol lol lol. The only thing stranger than fiction is fact
  6. My some of my R35's took some track damage that made them super slow. They were especially super slow off road, way too slow, I had too keep the ones with the busted tracks on the road. Hows the bypass going otherwise?
  7. Wait hang on I dont think youll be able to get a minor victory by just rushing forward and trying to exit everyone asap. I tried a few rush to the exit plans and never managed a victory without loosing all my armor. You want to carefully rush to methodically crush their ability to defend the road and the fields to the right of the road, THEN you rush everybody you can off.
  8. It sounds like you don't have a radio connection to the howitzers yet in your non campaign battle. non of the Italian infantry have radios so unless/until you get a FO you wont have your connection. "Nice plan! So you have not byassed them, but instead assaulted them, just bypassed in the end with some troops, right? " Thanks I thought it a good plan too but it took me some trying to get it to work. However Id generalize it a little differently than you did, see to get my minor victory I think I exited most of my force, I felt like I would have exited em all in less than 5 more minutes, I thought I had to get em all out. See, assaulting is how I would have described the previous mission where I basically drove through them with my tanks and tried to crush them all, destroying most of the force. For the 3rd mission I did a very HARD bypass, ninja style. You don't have time to destroy their force, just enough time to destroy their ability to guard the way to the exit zone. I started it with a sucker punch to the forward defenses and eyes(the two story building by the river) which got me in position to suppress a big key chunk of their defenses. Then I kinda wrapped my base of fire right and forward to bring the suppression around to the enemies guarding the second half of the road. Artillery did most of the work on this last main batch of defenders.
  9. You need to scroll a couple times to get to the wespes, they are last, you get em right away. The artillery gets full resupply so shoot a lot. I eventually won this one with few losses by ninja-ing it HARD. you dont have much time so you need to keep doing lots of stuff at the same time. I smoked up their front with a preplanned barrage then rushed a force of infantry and tanks to win the short range firefight as the smoke cleared, and did some work to capture the buildings. I should have brought engineers for both of the building but didnt for the left. But I had to have the infantry hide in the grass after the first part of the fight to avoid being mortared too bad. So for me occupying their front lines was my step 1. step 2 was started after step 1 but before step 1 finished. step 2 was driving guys to the end of the orchard where they ran out to fight from behind the walls, they were machine gun guys for the long range. step 3 was to call in arty all over em and suppress/route them hard and start going down the road with my tanks and starting to pull back my units with the longest way to go and send dudes driving through the fields on the right. step 4 drive everyone down the road unloading people for security and using pauses to try to keep traffic ok. You don't need to get everyone off just enough to get enough points for the win.
  10. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdbMpLHE8ww&playnext=1&list=PL714530457A2B9713&feature=results_video I know its been up but had to post it again.
  11. where are these 90mm on breda trucks? I want one, but cant seem to find it.
  12. On the other hand most of the troops who use hand guns in game do so since its their only weapon, so I'd expect them to do most of their shooting practice with handguns, so they should be, for their experience level, about as good at pistol shooting as the riflemen are at rifle shooting. It would be cool if the pixeltruppen got a primary weapon shooting skill and an other weapon skill. So when a MG gunner pulls out his pistol (his secondary) he not as good at it as an officer with only a pistol. or when a tank crew loots a Garand he wouldnt be as good with it as a riflemen. edit to fix funny typo
  13. Updating my drivers seems to have fixed my crashing issues, or it could have been the hotfix but I think it was the drivers. I looked specifically to update my OpenGL drivers to the latest for my nvidia gt220
  14. Great video J.K. thanks! that was some great pistoleering! Even the examples of poor shooting technique weren't that bad of shots. They seemed like real oldschool farm boys with good pistol training.
  15. Oh plus in the police shooting its usually I imagine vs just one target, while in game/war its usually a few or more guys in a small area. Like in game if you have a pistol guy shooting at say 20 meters with a 5 foot grouping on crouching guys, about half the shots will go high or low, and depending on how tight the enemies are packed, maybe a 3rd of the shots in the right height will hit someone, so about 1 in 6 shots might hit, even though the grouping isn't great. I don't know maybe that grouping is way to good I just made the numbers up but my point is... I dont know I need to eat.
  16. Has anyone tested how much experience effects pistol accuracy? Seems pretty relevant right now. Like for example I'd expect a veteran ww2 unit to do better than the average police officer. Firstly its a war so there is a lot less of the natural hesitation to kill than there is for a peace officer. Secondly they are expecting a firefight, unlike a lot of those startled police. Third they have been getting used to keeping cool under fire for a while. 4th they are only 1 step away from being crack and 2 from elite ( which I wouldn't say for the average cop). 5th if they are lined up with their buddies and are keeping cool under fire then it is a little like range shooting, like at least a few percent, and I think a lot different than a police shootout. 6) People grew up using guns more back then. 7) It doesn't seem like the pistols tolerances would matter much at the ranges and numbers of bullets fired we are talking about. I thought the problem you guys were talking about was that people dont point them in the right direction not that the guns dont shoot straight. 8) My sorta friend/exboss was fighting on point in Iraq and got shot in the leg by a untrained guy with a pistol at what he thought was way to0 long of range for him to get hit, then he dropped to his knee and put 3 rounds in his chest. So it happens. These pistol guys shoot a lot of bullets till they run out.
  17. About the casualties again, my experience is that it all depends on what happens to your guys. Like if you kick but and dominate your firefights and you mostly only take damage from small mortar fire that you mostly dodge, you might get more yellow injured than any other casualties. on the other hand if most of you injuries are from heavy machine guns and large caliber accurate HE, and or you have your injured guys keep getting shot at, say by a long barrage of mortars, youll have mostly dead guys.
  18. edit to add Or maybe it was about 30 casualties, I didnt get a good look at the after action report. I have 390 something guys left. lost too many trying to rush the second hill in the first mission. edit to add again, oh and JonS, the chaoticist part was that it was RT
  19. JonS, LOL it sure was but probably not as chaotic as my writing Ridethe415, Im pretty sure you cant just ignore them, beside getting shot up too bad by them while trying to go past, I think you actually need some points from killing them. However it really is a bypass mission, unlike the destroy mission before that, because you dont have time to destroy them, at least it would be too hard, you just have time for the finding fixing maneuvering parts, not the final destroy step. A short description of how i did it was I used my arty to get my infantry up close to find them, then I hid them while my takes came up, then I blasted them till they were weak and running, while expanding my front down the road and up the right, and then once they started running it was time to move on further down the road. I ended up killing over 200 and wounding some more but they still had over 200 guys left at the end. Fetchez, Im I a little surprised you managed it with just the tanks and artillery, you must have used your arty better than me, cause thats about how I got my first victory but I lost almost all my armor in the process. What ended up taking out the AT guns for you? sounds easier than my way tho. I ended it with around 50 casualties and I think no tank and two trucks lost.
  20. JonS, yeah and they need it they got DIRTY! It'll have to wait for tomorrow for the swim tho, didn't try it today, just felt really stoked all day about finally beating mission 3 in good order. ridethe415, Yeah sure, I guess this is a spoiler thread after all. SPOILER ALERT! Firstly I knew from my previous minor victory, where I lost all my armor, that my artillery would be resupplied, so by then end of it I had shot almost all of it. I also ended up doing it from saves, so by using two saves I was able to do it pretty ninja style. I started with a preplanned bombardment with a big smoke mission across their front between and covering the first two buildings. While the smoke came down I moved up some tanks up the field left of the highway. once the smoke was set I raced a platoon down the highway and the fork in the road over to the bridge, where I had em run up with the most advanced making it to the little dirt road to the two story building. For the other building I sent one of the engineer teams to blow a hole in the near side. In the middle between the two I moved up another platoon to the walls. When the smoke cleared my men behind the walls started shooting and the engineers had blasted through and taken the building by the freeway with little losses, and I made my first save. shortly after that (around minute 39) the fully clears and I start taking heavy losses from their mortars. I think it was a bad idea or at least I needed to bring my engineers for the building on the left too, cause I have hell taking it. I give up on the attempt and try some other stuff that doesn't work. I get frustrated. I decide to try again from that save and just do it super good. I thought it was a stylin start even if I did not blast the building on the left with enough HE and forgot the engineers. So I reload and this time I send the furthest back squad of my left most platoon along the creek and up to get a good view of the windows on the left side of it, and be able to run to that wall. and I had a renault go the same way and shot the building from that side. and then I had the previously most advanced guy by the road run left a bit to help too, then ran up to the wall them ran up to both doors and ran through both doors at once, and I had a tank shoot the other side of the building a bit. the squad hqs off the two building assault squads were shooting the mortar guys from the wall and once the rifle teams got in the building the shot em up too. While I was moving the squad and tank to assault the building to get the FO and mortars I moved up tanks to where my infantry in the middle is and move some tanks up the road around the captured building by the highway. I had the infantry in the middle run away from the walls into the grass to try to protect them from the mortars that cause some much damage before. Oh I also drive up some MG gunners to the end of the orchard but hidden by trees and had em run to the wall just after the orchard. and then another mg platoon or section further down the wall. These guys found what I think was the last remaining antitank gun, so I called down my artillery again with the 105s on the anti tank gun, my 100mm in a ling on the wall/orchard enemies my the orchard by the highway near the end, one 75 on the anti tank gun I got intel on and had shot once already with a preplanned strike, and the other 75 somewhere else all on harass with all tubes. At minute 19 I was whooping em and had tanks and infantry occupying their forward positions and a little past, was shooting at em all over the place had artillery coming in on them, but I was running out of time. I saved. then I went to slow and got a minor defeat for not exiting enough. I tried again and this time I started pulling back my guys with the longest way to go, the ones in the second story building and around it. I had them book it backwards even though they had just recently gotten to their objective and were putting the hurt on. they ran to the road behind them to where the trucks who left the island were waiting. I also moved the guys hiding the the grass up to some walls farther up but didn't keep em there long cause they had to book it to the freeway to get picked up. I ordered the mass of embarked infantry still in at the staging area to book it for the exit zone, one down the right side one down the freeway.I had the MG trucks stop to pick them up. I rushed my tanks down the road but to cover the big rush and had some of the lead trucks disembark to give security on foot. If I had a few more minutes I would have gotten all but a few off but when it sorry that wasn't a lot clearer.
  21. I'd like to try playing CMFI with a gridded terrain mod. I didn't see it in the repository, is there anywhere I can find one?
  22. Not finding it in your test doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I know about them continuing to shoot at enemies after they disappear for a little while, since it happens all the time and all, but I'm pretty sure I have seen what we are talking about happen many time (but much less often) too. I think it is both kinda rare and takes special circumstances or something so if you don't have whatever the special circumstances are in your test then it wont happen. Edit to add. and its a brief situation when it happens, you usually get the normal spot soon after.
  23. Do the individual soldiers who ran off on their own ever fight on their own? Like run off towards the enemy, but see em and shoot? Like maybe they got consumed by battle rage lol.
  24. Still no save but I'll say again I'm sure I have seen it happen plenty of times.
