  1. So, if motorcycles are being used for reconnaissance on a divisional level, I would build a scenario where you have to scout a large area (3 x 4 km) for enemy positions and point them for artillery bombardments. Then wait a few hours until the Aufkärungs Truppen arrive on the scene (German vs. AI - 480 minutes battle) <HR><table width="80%" border="0" cellspacing="2" cellpadding="2"><tr> <td width="10%"><div align="center"><input type="checkbox" name="checkbox" value="checkbox" disabled></div></td><td width="90%"><s>Horses (with or without wagons)</s></td></tr><tr><td><div align="center"><input type="checkbox" name="checkbox2" value="checkbox" checked></div></td><td>Motorcycles</td></tr><tr><td><div align="center"><input type="checkbox" name="checkbox3" value="checkbox" disabled></div></td><td><s>Bicycles</s></td></tr><tr><td><div align="center"><input type="checkbox" name="checkbox43" value="checkbox" checked></div></td><td>Antitank objects (Concrete Pillars, Steel Crosses etc..)</td></tr><tr><td><div align="center"><input type="checkbox" name="checkbox42" value="checkbox" disabled></div></td><td><s>Bulldozers</s></td></tr><tr><td><div align="center"><input type="checkbox" name="checkbox4" value="checkbox" checked></div></td><td>Closed trucks (with canvas)</td></tr><tr><td><div align="center"><input type="checkbox" name="checkbox5" value="checkbox" checked></div></td><td>Train Station</td></tr><tr><td><div align="center"><input type="checkbox" name="checkbox6" value="checkbox" checked></div></td><td>2 meters tall stone walls</td></tr><tr><td><div align="center"> <input type="checkbox" name="checkbox7" value="checkbox" checked></div></td><td>Telephone poles</td></tr><tr> <td><div align="center"><input type="checkbox" name="checkbox8" value="checkbox" checked></div></td><td>Stairs for slopes</td></tr><tr><td><div align="center"><input type="checkbox" name="checkbox9" value="checkbox" checked></div></td><td>Dirt tiles</td></tr><tr><td><div align="center"><input type="checkbox" name="checkbox102" value="checkbox" checked></div></td><td>Abby's / Cloisters</td></tr><tr><td><div align="center"><input type="checkbox" name="checkbox103" value="checkbox"></div></td><td>A Real dropping of paratroopers (falling out of the sky)</td></tr><tr><td><div align="center"> <input type="checkbox" name="checkbox10" value="checkbox"></div></td><td>On map artillery (for use with target referention points)</td></tr></table><HR>
  2. All forifications (Treches, Wire, Mines, Bunkers etc.)will remain on their original position if the Window Battle Size make them 'disappear'.
  3. If the operation has 'fallback positions' then you're able to use the foxhole pool. In the first setup you can dig in most of the units. This will give you a foxhole that belongs to that unit. You also get a foxhole pool in the first setup. This pool contains an amount of holes that is equal to the amount of prone units (Infantry). With the ALT+F mode you're free to place the holes anywhere in the setup zone. Say you have 100 Infantry squads. If they all have the dig-in status then you'll end up with 200 foxholes. If all squads have survived the first battle then you can fill your pool again with 200 holes by clicking on them in the foxhole placement mode. So if you're expecting reinforcements then you should place the extra foxholes wisely. Because when the holes are sited in the enemy's setup zone in the 2nd, 3rd... setup you'll not be able to place them back in the foxhole pool. All reinforcements will not be able to dig-in, the only thing that's left is to place them in the holes from the pool. If you know that the enemy is very strong and will break your first line of defense, you can create a 2nd line behind it with the foxhole pool. While you're placing them you should try the LOS with a infantry unit. Be careful with the first line of defense, don't let those foxholes be an advantage for the enemy.
  4. How should one place US or Brittish units in CMBB ?
  5. There's also a small 'bug' in the foxhole system. The defender can take back the holes which are sited within the new calculated setup zone between the battles. If the opponent occupies these foxholes ore not, they can be taken back to the 'foxhole-pool' and be placed again by the defender. I cannot imagine soldiers moving back to area's which are occupied, fill the holes with dirt, and dig a new ones somewhere else.
  6. That's well said and I agree to that. BFC should always go for the realism and a 'bug'-free engine. Though we have to take in account that they might not have the manpower or finance to create this game we would very like to see. While developing they'll have to deal with deadlines and money. I started this topic to see what the opinion is of the players, modders and scenario designers about units and objects that were not included in this wonderful game. It's a fantastic game, that's my personal opinion. It's not finished yet. All the comments will prove that. The graphics in CM aren't quite in the same level as other 3d games that appear on the market. But the magnificent calculations of the battlefield are unique. I do hope that BFC analyze these kind of discussions and use the results in CMX2 or future versions of CM. For me, personally, the graphics and object can't be refined enough. Highly detailed, full of every-day objects and maybe civilians, that's the wargame I'm dreaming about. You can't put a bunch of Tigers and IS-2's on a map and say "That's what WWII is about" (I does give a lot of fun playing such scenarios though).
  7. Well Michael, if you're such an expert in warfare & history you could help me out with Operation Störfang. I'm a perfectionist but not a Mieren Neuker.
  8. Mieren Neuken Maybe I should rephrase these suppressed negative reflections in a different perspective. The knowledge of a mistake in the actions of my sub consciousness result in a crack in the fragile egg shell mind. Cranked as my neurons emit, how unstable the gland produces its phenyl- and indole-type hormones. Pour in another glass of that fine old psychodeleptic Port. mmmm a Vintage [ August 15, 2003, 06:17 PM: Message edited by: eichenbaum ]
  9. That was Operation Crusader, nine or ten months before Monty arrived on the scene. Better stick with inkblots. Michael </font>
  10. Totally agree! Blitzkrieg is an excelent PBEM operation to start with!
  11. No, the cover arc is meant for "Shoot only at targets between point A and B". LOS of a buttoned tank comes from every hole in the tank where the crew can see through. If one says, enemy at 3 o'clock is doesn't have to mean that this is in the area target.</font>

  13. You don't point to trees ore something, You say "enemy tank at 3 o'clock" or "Feiandlichen Panzer 3 Uhr!" ore something.
  14. Yeh yeh .. ok... I have seen enough . 4 months for 1 turn is quite a time. I Wish you good luck with the battle! - STOP
  15. Is Seanachai really the slowest in sending back turns of the Peng Challenge ?

  17. When Monty made an attack on Rommel in North Afrika British tanks were covered with metal frame and canvas that looked like a regular truck. This way Monty could maneuver his tanks in the open desert and the Germans left those alone. It's always about giving up your hidden positions when you're in doubt to blow up the enemy's trucks or not. If it's an empty truck I certainly would not shoot with a gun that was hidden all the time.

  19. Closed trucks keep their cargo invisible. The enemy couldn't tell if it's food, ammuntion, soldiers or just empty (for CM just soldiers or empty) You could mod the original truck but that gives 2 problems : 1. The top still stays open 2. The parameters aren't changed so the cargo will stay visible.
