When one starts a thread, one just never knows how it will take off. Classic example here! Beatmasta, I am playing the attacking Italians in Avanti! It's a challenge. I will respond again when it's over. Gerry

I have read D-Day -- Battle for Normandy. V. readable as SLR says. Mix of big picture and individual stories. Gerry

Hello: Would like an alert when enemy artillery falls (e.g. a colored square at the top of the screen where we get those colored arrows to indicate units). In a large map it can he hard to hear the smaller mortar rounds fall. You only hear it if you are checking that part of the map. When some kind of graphic alert you would know to go looking for the spotting round. Easy to miss as there is not always action on every part of a map. Gerry

Hello: Having an awful time aligning groups on a ridge line. There is 9 in a group. They align behind each other so only say 5 of them are on the ridge. When I do a Hunt or Slow command to get to edge forward it doesn't work out somehow. I think I am supposed to see 3 action spots highlighted as the destination for any movement command? Also for a Face command? But I can only see one AS highlight in yellow and maybe another one in very light yellow so it's hard to see it. Any help appreciated. I have a lot of troops in this scenario but if I cannot get more of them on the ridge line the old "quantity has a quality of its own" adage is not going to work here. Gerry

The Force Preservation Campaign
GerryCMBB replied to Childress's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
Did the CW forces not lead with tanks in some of those operations near Caen (Epsom maybe?)? It seemed crazy to me. It was a night attack I believe so they were covered somewhat. I thought the idea was that the tanks create the breakthrough and the infantry mop up? Thanks, Gerry -
AAR-AXIS - Clearing the Niscemi Highway
GerryCMBB replied to Bil Hardenberger's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
Hello Bil: 1) Question about this: "Finally on the other side of the map I had one Pz-IV creep forward in the hopes of getting a spot on the Sherman he has posted on the backside of the Villa." Did you use Hunt here? I thought I read where you wrote one time about only 2 speeds for tanks, Quick and Fast, to minimize time in LOS/LOF of enemy AT assets? 2) How do you get into hull-down positions? Using Hunt or Slow? Thanks. Great write-up by you and ND here. Gerry -
Coming Soon: Palma di Montechiaro
GerryCMBB replied to Bimmer's topic in CM Fortress Italy Maps and Mods
Funny. Today I was wondering when all the user-created scenarios would start appearing. And this shows up. Will be interesting to see how urban combat works in CMFI. Looks like it would be an nightmare with all the multi-story buildings. Gerry -
+1 for this. Really would be a great help to people trying to improve. A lot of the wisdom gets buried... Gerry

M7 Priest--How Often Used for DIRECT Fire?
GerryCMBB replied to John Kettler's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
Hello: Just curious if this is the Jason that did the tutorial scenarios for CMBB (posted on some website)? Seems like a neat idea to help beginners to a system. Gerry -
A little confused on Italy v Normandy and engines
GerryCMBB replied to drtechno's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
Isn't a game forum there to allow fans of the game, even fanboys dare I say, to have a chat and learn, have fun, etc. (Sometimes I am in stitches at some of the funny posts.) Being part of a game forum shouldn't have anything to do with using correct searching techniques, etc. We are tested at work on a daily basis. Why not just let people post questions and those that want can answer them?! Gerry -

Hello All: Just a note before anyone tries this - a comment for the CMBN one says the 2nd battle has nothing to do with the first one so he did not consider it a campaign. Gerry

AAR-AXIS - Clearing the Niscemi Highway
GerryCMBB replied to Bil Hardenberger's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
Hello Bil: I am trying to glean whatever I can from these AARs. One interesting thing for me is how you shut down your initial attack after it had failed. Seems now you are getting everything together for the main attack. That is a good thing for me to note; don't keep pushing when there is little chance of success. Back up and prepare for the second attack using all the information you have gathered. This is probably obvious to many! Gerry -
Was this the fictional one based on a landing at Calais? If yes, that would explain some of the lack of interest I think. I think most people would want to play parts of the historical campaigns. Gerry
-
Jon: I think what people are asking for is that BF include these campaigns as content in the base game and/or modules. I understand that they are challenging to make. It would also require destructible terrain to carry over on the map, etc. Gerry

+1 for this wish. Combines the advantages of playing human opponents and forcing one to preserve forces throughout the campaign, not just rushing VLs. Gerry

Appreciate the answer but this is not what I am talking about. When you do this it is not pivoting tightly around a building. I am looking for the same behavior you can get after using Unit Lock for a unit. Gerry

I believe he has posted it to our Drop Boxes. Gerry -
Hello: I can assign a number to a camera group (CTRL-#) and it works that turn. But for the next turn in the PBEM the number assignments have disappeared. Thanks in advance. Gerry

Hello All: By pivoting I mean like we can do with a unit when Unit Lock is active. Sometimes I want to go to a building where I don't have a unit and check which sides have windows, doors, etc. Is there a way to do a pivot as in the unit lock example above? It would make camera movement great for these situations. If not, I hope it's a feature that could be added. Thanks, Gerry
-
Another wish: Clicking on a waypoint, of the non-active unit, to select it. If you have a string of waypoints extending quite a distance and want to add a pause to the 3rd, you have to select the unit that often is off-screen. It would be really nice to be able to click the waypoint that you see on the screen. Gerry

Thanks. You can tell I am not too familiar with these symbols. And not doing well with detail today! Gerry -
AAR-AXIS - Clearing the Niscemi Highway
GerryCMBB replied to Bil Hardenberger's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
Looks great Bil. Seems that the icons are lighter in color compared to game ones. CMFI has a Scout Team icon now. I suppose that was not in the army symbols? So would they just show up as infantry? Gerry -

A very slick by Battlefront. The advance guard will already be in Moscow!
