Pardon my ignorance. What do Shaders do other than help with shadows and detail on vehicles? The things I notice with my Nvidia card is that it brightens up tanks and troops a bit. Does that make sense or am I imaging it? Thanks, Gerry

Hello: I would like tanks to knock down the trees they currently teleport through. And if they are not strong enough to knock the tree down, then they would have to navigate around it. Lots of great realism in this great game but the current behavior of tanks breezing through trees kills that a bit. Thanks, Gerry

Wondering the same about the canister. Just using it now in CMFI. Bloody hellfire. Poor troops is all I can think. And then we want to fry them as well with FTs! Gerry

Hello: Is this in the Hotfix that has been announced? Also, are there 2 sets of shaders now? As in, one included with the game and an alternative set that is this hotfix that might work better for some people. Thanks, Gerry

Help Setting up Tests / Practise Runs
GerryCMBB replied to GerryCMBB's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
Thanks for the detailed answers. It looks like if I want to practice against the AI, then it has to be a QB, right? As this has AI plans. I just want to confirm it is possible in a QB to select units for both sides. That is possible, right? Thanks again, Gerry -
Help Setting up Tests / Practise Runs
GerryCMBB replied to GerryCMBB's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
A follow-up. I think I am poor with armor so I would like to try a few vehicles from each side, say Panthers vs Shermans, etc. to practice in a small battle. Would this be best to do in the QB system? I have only looked briefly at this system and it seems complicated. You start choosing organizations and then remove the elements you don't want. There is no way to quickly select 3 Panthers vs n Shermans, right? One other thing. For this armor practice, what is the best type of QB? A meeting engagement? Or does it not matter? Thanks, Gerry -
Hello All: I think I have only 1 patch installed - my CMBN is version 1.10. Is there a later patch? Thanks, Gerry

Help Setting up Tests / Practise Runs

Thanks. I am playing a campaign at the moment and did a Save. When I went into the Scenario Editor, it didn't show up under Saved Games. Are Saves from within a campaign not available for Loading into the Scenario Editor? Gerry -
Hello: Many times I find myself doing something for the first time in CM (limbering guns, figuring out if a HT can get through certain terrain, etc.). I would like to be able to set up tests to help with this. I don't want a battle situation, just a few pieces of equipment from one side. Is this easiest to do in the QB system or the scenario editor? Also is there a way for it to use the map for the battle you are playing. (I could play forward a bit I realize and practice these things but I don't want to gain knowledge about the enemy.) Thanks in advance, Gerry

Did a test on the same map. Previously I had given a Scout Team a move order to the other side of the vineyard. The unit went around the vineyard to the other side. In the test now, I put a waypoint in the vineyard and they did go into the vineyard. So it seems one needs to control the pathing near vineyards or they will take the long way around. Gerry

Hello All: Is the new terrain explained in the manual in terms of what units can cross it, etc.? Couldn't see it. In a training battle (#1 in Advanced Training) I noticed that scouts would not go though what looks like a vineyard. It looks like a vineyard but the vines seem very low so maybe it is something else. In this battle there is also something that looks like a hedge. I assume tracked vehicles can cross this. IOW there is nothing bocage-like in Sicily/Italy? Thanks, Gerry

Target Light fires too much ammo?

What about crews from player-controlled tanks? Will they be disabled somehow as in removed from the map or some such thing after their vehicle is knocked out? Thanks, Gerry -
Maybe too soon.....wish list

Hello All: Not sure what the name is of this part of the UI. I want to say Unit Panel or Organization Panel. I think it would be great if it was specific when it is listing Teams. IOW saying Scout Team, HMG Team, etc. iso just team. It would give us another way to find stuff quickly. There is room for this text as the first entry in the pic is much longer. Thanks, Gerry -
They have always been able to engage different targets in different directions I think. This doesn't mean though that you can set 2 arcs, right? Gerry

Good Lord man, how can you have finished a PBEM already? Gerry

Just need a bit more help (I am going through the tutorials first so I haven't met the Italians yet). 1. The terms squad and section here are synonymous? 2. An Italian squad/section has 20 soldiers. But in the game this is already split into two nine-men teams. So the largest chunk we will have to deal with is 9 men? 3. The HQ team leads the squad/section. Do the teams have their own lower-level leaders also? Thanks in advance, Gerry

Email Files location Question
GerryCMBB replied to Tom Konczal's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
IIRC, this is what Microsoft wants for security reasons and BF are getting a head start on going this route. Not allowed to change it I think. Gerry -
AAR-AXIS - Clearing the Niscemi Highway
GerryCMBB replied to Bil Hardenberger's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
Hello Bil: I am also looking forward to this. Question about the chart/spreadsheet - is that something you created manually or is they a way to import the data from CMFI? Thanks, Gerry -
Don't forget the 2-level effect.

Ye guys are way too helpful. G

Hello All: Going through the tutorial even though I have played CMBN. I think there is an error that could throw newbies. On page 16 when it talks about adding orders to a waypoint. It says the while ball of the waypoint changes to a pyramid. On my system the while ball just gets larger. Gerry

Enemy Icons Disappear when Targeting
GerryCMBB replied to GerryCMBB's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
It's the basic training level. (I have played CMBN but with CMFI I thought I would work through all the training to pick up as much as I can). When I click on the firing unit to give a Target order, and enemy icons are visible, then those enemy units are seen by that highlighted firer, right? I believe all visible icons for the firer disappeared when I tried to draw the targeting line. Gerry -
Hello All: Playing Mission 3 in Basic Training. Some of my units see enemy units on Hill 2014. When I click Target and begin to move the mouse so I can target the enemy unit, the enemy icon disappears. In CMBN if you could see something but did not have LOF, the line color would change from light blue. But the enemy icon would stay visible. Here it is disappearing. Any help appreciated. Gerry
