  1. All good ideas. For the naval units we could even use the SC WW1 bitmaps. And for the distinction between standard and heavy there could come a "heavy" tech.
  2. And i'm glad that you're nevertheless still around, Kuni! Everything ok in Sweden?
  3. ColBradleyUSMC, i wish you all the best in your struggle to master your computer system. I know this is of very little help, but the only thing i can add is this: don't buy any software that promise you to take you computer troubles way, to make you computer faster, cleaner or more powerful. Usually this kind of software is the main source for most of all possible troubles you can run into. What you need is a good (and this doesn't mean expensive or pre-i stalled) antivirus prrogram, and that is mostly all you need. Again: i wish you all the best, and hopefully very soon a lasting peace on the computer-trouble front! Greetings from Bremen / Germany Claus
  4. Never judge a book by its cover. Hexes feel more "right" when you move and attack. If you attack or move on tiles, the corner movements look all "wrong".
  5. What are the differences between Quick Animation on / off and Quick Logic on / off?
  6. Bill, maybe you could send one or two strategy advises for the CP player once he has reached certain NM levels WITHOUT having used the unrestriced naval warfare? My idea would be to send one or two historical messages how the german populations is starving and that the General staff debates about what to do to force England to its knees. Later than a strategy advise that the General Staff has found a solution to boost NM morale (all nations of this conflict learned to hate each other to the death during this conflict) and to cripple Englands ability to fight this war: unrestricted naval warfare (UNW). In this advice there should be some math examples how about how much the UNW would help with the german NM, and how much income England would lose. If the CP player still don't use the UNM, a finaly advise and / or decision event should appear, strongly recommending to use this weapon to turn the tide of war. Maybe in the decision event one or two subs could be offered (if yes, pay a price and use UNM within 7 (7 as example value, you would have to calculate a real number here) turns. If the player don't use the UNM within the 7 turns, he should be penalised. If yes the USA should notice this and should react stronger than usually. After all there was this debate and the great national effort to produce these additional subs). If no, the player could get 2 or 3 additional hisorical informations about the effects of the UK blockade, the bad food quality and about civil unrest.
  7. Bill, i would go with your suggestion regarding the unrestricted naval warfare. This way the USA has a chance to get in the war as well. A win - win in terms of game balance.
  8. I wish Battlefront could adopt a different, less latent aggressive tone when they communicate with there customers. I'm deeply conviced that Battlefronts reasons to block certain IP adress are wellfounded and probably even without any action alternatives. But may i (nevertheless) suggest that you take an inspiration from the way how Hubert and Bill comunicate with their customes / forum members? Let me explain why i read a latent aggressive tone out of answers like the one qouted above: because you have 98 words to explain and defend yourself, but not a single one word of sympathy for borsook. Something like "We are terribly sorry that you have to suffer for the sins of others, but please understand us that we had to protect our business and the rest of the Strategic Command community. We would love to see you staying our valued customer, and we can understand in what a situation our last line of defence has brought you. Please accept our apologies for circumstances that are out of our control. As a token of our gratitude for your understanding we would like to offer you a 5$ voucher for the next Strategic Command release, at least if that would be ok for you. Many greetings from all of the Battlefront staff Moon Battlefront - Join us fighting the good fight " Would that really be so hard?
  9. Sorry for your troubles, doesn't sound good nor right to be a victim of the some other peoples misbehaviour. But even though you might feel angry about Battlefronts protection decisions, it still make no sense to waste away your Strategic Command licenses. Battlefront is only the publisher of Strategic Command, not the game developer (which would be Fury Software). I myself still play Heroes of Might & Magic Games, even though i despise Ubisoft for the way they treat their customers with Heroes of Might & Magic 6 (still bug infested beyond recognition, can't play it longer than 5 minutes before the game crashes). So i could understand not to purchase anything new, but if i like a game and if the game runs fine, than i'm in no need to throw the game away. In case that a member of the Battlefront staff reads this: i would like to learn about your decision process, and what kind of help you can offer users like borsook. It would be a shame to scare fans and customers of Strategic Command away. Maybe you guys can find a way to protect your website AND offer a treat to those who have to suffer because of it? Would be a nice thing to learn that Battlefront found a way to protect AND to serve (and to heal).
  10. Lots of details got improved. The AI moves and attacks more efficient Neutral countries improve their armies during the war (making them better equipped if attacked later in the campaign) More National Morale targets (examples: the UK will get a shock if Egypt gets lost, as does Germany once their neutral Trade partners in Scandinavia or the Netherlands stop to trade with them) The report menu shows losses now in in percente values if you move your mouse cursor over a graphic new and improved supply rules I wouldn't start a standard SC WW1 game anymore, even though i could. Breakthrough made SC WW1 even more complete.
  11. Here a link to wikipedia. Even if the Romanians would have surrendered, during the Chaos of the Russian Revolution they would have gotten their bite from the plunder. I don't think that this is an unrealistic scenario.
  12. Hi OneRing, and welcome to the Forum! The american flag marks only those tiles which trigger the unrestricted sub-warfare. And the unrestricted sub-warfare endanger trade profits big time, therefor the USA gets pretty upset about it. BUT this is as well true if you "only" attack the standard convoy lines. If you attack the UK convoy lines, than there is a chance that the USA gets upset about it. NOT AS MUCH AS IF YOU START THE UNRESTRICTED SUB WARFARE, of course. The american flag is more or less a warning sign for the CP player, remembering him about the fact that these tiles are those where the CP player can (don't has to, there is a decision event asking you what you wanna do) start the unrestricted sub warfare. Long story short: every attack on a convoy line can upset the USA. But unrestricted sub warfare WILL upset the USA.
  13. Good idea, Bill! In addition, maybe we need could need a bit of a "luck" component in the diplomacy and research part? General idea (probably not possible in the current game): Imagin that a country is allowed to buy 5 diplo chits. But there is a possibility to purchase a 6th one, which represents a high risk manoveur. It could work out, it could be a a blank, or it could even backfire. THis chit would need its own success / failure / blank calculation. But once your opponent used this chit, you will see it in the diplo menu, or you will receive an ingame message. And if you don't counter it with your own high risk chit, your opponent will lose the "backfire" danger, making his chit will either a blank or successfull. And if there would be an optional decision event catagory which could offer the same - chance for success, chance for desaster, chance for nothing, well, this category would be perfect to change war entry dates, to remove successfull HQs, push up National Morale, stall movement allowances, cripple income, build fortress lines, repair sunken ships, and provide very often nothing at all.
  14. It took several years of propaganda (Entente toward the USA) AND the german resumption of unrestricted sub warfare AND the Zimmerman telegram to finally drag the USA into the war. Without the unrestricted sub warfare and without the Zimmerman telegram the USA might have never gone to war at all, or at least several month or years later, probably too late to play any noteworthy role in the conflict. But once the USA decided to go to war, it tooks endless month before there was finally an army ready to be shipped to France, and even longer before this army was fully trained and in the trenches.
  15. What you need is the Bulgarian war entry. For this you should conquer Belgrad, the Serbian capital. And if you feel lucky, invest a diplo chit too. With Bulgaria in the war you will be able to send troops to Turkey, Germans, AH and Bulgarians.
  16. If they come via amphib assault, you should use your fleet to protect your coast lines. At least your towns and cities. Try to patrol the sea, you might even get the chance to attack the amphib at sea. As Bill already wrote, those amphib attacks are expensive. But if you decide to attack a unit, make sure to bring one of your HQs, and maybe a second or third land unit, too. You even could use the mentioned german or AH units do defend you turkish coast lines.
  17. Hi Numdydar. In SC it is not possible to do an amphib "all-out assault", you need to unload on an empty tile. Granted, all-out assaults against occupied tiles would help the game, espacially the AI. But, as you already found out on your own, it is not possible to do this right now, the current game engine don't allow this. Regarding the carrier attacks: use your right mouse button to click on a carrier to change between the different modes: Mode Fighter (Combat Air Patrol / CAP) Mode Naval/Tactical Mode Mix
  18. My experience is just the opposite. Don't allow any program which is not related to your OS to install unto drive C. Or your will regret it sooner or later. Anyway, i've never had any problems with different drives, i always use E or F (internal HDs). But i would never install a game on an external drive, connected via USB. I would always fear that this would end in performance losses due to the rahter slow connection.
  19. Unfortunately it's not. I have often expressed the very same wish, as it would make games against the AI soooo much more interesting (late game side change).
  20. At least if the unit was in supply when it got destroyed. Units found out of supply when destroyed can't be repurchased for the reduced price.
  21. Once upon a time, there was a merry band of forums user...
