Does the Serbian Typhus has any effect on the units in Serbia, or is it only a media pop-up? Are there any plans to implement the shell shortage into the game?
-
Bad supply stops your movement. No fuel, no ammo, no spare parts, no food, no water, you get the idea. That is why you need HQ units. That is why you sometimes need to stop to allow captured towns, cities and ports to rebuild their supply level. I know it is hard, but try to read the manual, and if this is too much and too dry stuff for you, than take a peek at this nice forum thread for new players, where some game features have been nicely explained.

What scenarios come with the game?
xwormwood replied to nats's topic in Strategic Command - GLOBAL CONFLICT
There are "only" global games. Not only with different entry dates, but with fictional ones too, which allow you to play some "what if" campaigns. -
Bug in demo
xwormwood replied to nats's topic in Strategic Command - World War 1: The Great War 1914-1918
nats, I have to confess that I never installed any demo, but i run and play all SC games under Win7 64bit too, and they run smoothly without any crashes. This is even true for the older masterpieces like SC 2 Patton drives East or Pacific Theater, so don't worry! -
Which is the best game?
xwormwood replied to nats's topic in Strategic Command - World War 1: The Great War 1914-1918
a) SC GC AoD I like SC WW1 with the Breakthrough Add-on installed best. Followed by SC GC Gold. With SC WW1 Breakthrough you get not only the brilliant (!) WW1 game, but a WW2, Russian Civil War, Franco-Prussian War game as well. Four wars for the price of one. Tell you what: install the free Demos and decide for yourself. Maybe you like Aod of AoC better - who else but you is able to decide in this matter? -
Gentlemen, feel free to take a look at this nice forum thread within the SC WW1 section of this forum. You might find some helpful information there.

Information for New Players

Stumbled over this question and Huberts answer in the AOD part of the forum, and thought to myself, that it might be worth a try to add here some pictures and information too. I should add that the recon flights within your own tiles were first introduced with the SC WW1 Breakthrough expansion, so you won't be able to do them in the SC WW1 standard game without the Breakthrough expansion. -
a) it is insignifant because of the current game design (which my suggestion would change, at least a bit. The main work would be to use the NM in way that it because something you have look after) believe me, conquering Danmark or Greece doens't help a poor landser on the eastern front, actually, it doesn't help at all to raise the readiness or the unit morale facing modern soviet tank units. If at all the effect is pretty low, but surely not able to creat such high values for readiness or unit morale.

The solution could be the supply level of an amphib units. If invasions would only allowed at a hight supply level, long distance invasions would become impossible. Low supply invasions should be impossible or at least very dangerous, with losses at sea, losses during the landing, and low supply etc after the landing. To allow long distance invasions like the one american North Africa invasion, players would have to travel by transport to Gibraltar or the Azoren Islands, and from there as amphibs. This would make island hopping pretty important. The next tool to make island hopping worthwhile should be convoy lines, National Morale Lines, Diplomacy lines. The last two are not part of the game, but would be a good addition.

Dissappointed no Chrsitmas sale!
xwormwood replied to CSS's topic in Strategic Command - Assault on Democracy
This has nothing to do with being a "real" fan or turning into Scrooge, and it is surely not nescessary to get personal. I'm pretty sure that some kind of Christmas package with the chance for some moderate savings wouldn't have hurt anybody, while those who were looking out for it would have been satisfied. Maybe they would have even spread the word, drawing more gamers toward BF. I can't imagine a scenario where more customers would be a bad end of such a christmas sale. BF could build a package of older SC releases, or they could offer the latest releases as a package. Don'r forget that the game engine is several years old, and all releases have been around for while right now. BF has surely reasons not to offer a package. That is allright. But asking for one, and being sad when none gets offered, is quite allright as well. -
Breakthrough for SC3
xwormwood replied to Honch's topic in Strategic Command - World War 1: The Great War 1914-1918
What the Game Engine really needs are true Garrisons. Imagine infantry strengthpoints which you could build and pay just like you buy an anti-air upgrade. Immobile enhancements, for towns, cities, ressources, FORTRESSES,and maybe even ports. As long as they are there, no enemy unit can enter the tile. Only after they were destroyed in combat the tile is open to enemy movements. This would even allow some minor stacking. This would make the rather absurd emergency movements from air ships into Iraq or the deepest russia obsolete. I hope that this feature will appear in SC3. -

Sc3 announcement?
xwormwood replied to Kuniworth's topic in Strategic Command - Assault on Democracy
I wouldn't worry about the support of SC2. If one thing is clear, than the fact that Hubert always provided support and patches for all of his games. And don't forget: he surely is VERY interested in constant sales of SC2. And last point to consider: only the brilliance of SC2 will players interest into SC3. No matter where SC3 will be released, SC2 will still the best commercial Hubert can get for SC3. -
AoC Winter 1941 poll plz for next fix
xwormwood replied to Big Al's topic in Strategic Command - Assault on Communism
You have to look into the facts WHY the Germans suffered from the Russian Winter. And than you need to use these facts in the game. You have the option to use decision events. It is not true that the Germans didn't have any winter equipment. The Equipment was there, behind the front lines. Make it the players decision how much he wants to suffer. Deliver winter equipment or not. Deliver winter equipment sooner, later, very late , too late, not at all. You could introduce a dozen of decision events to play with these dates and the effect. If you want to. -
AoC Soviet Tank Arrival poll
xwormwood replied to Big Al's topic in Strategic Command - Assault on Communism
Even in 1943 the Germans were able to user their tanks more effective than the Russians, and with 1943 the Germans had Panthers and Tigers, which were better than their Russian counterparts. The Russians won because they were able to outproduce the germans. And when they realized how much more they had, they started to waste them. 1943 could have been the German 1944 if the Russians wouldn't have wasted their tanks (like at Kursk, where the Russian had a tank loss ration of 1:8, partly because of more or less suicice attacks against the German front lines). Look for the historical reasons why the Russians used their tanks wrong. Bring this into the game. To get your required effect you could introduce several decision events which forces and or seduces the russian player to spend his money. And with the money gone, he wouldn't be able to save for the tank introduction. Use National Morale. Income. Diplomacy, Techs. Maybe Stalin could ounish players which buy ahistorical tank units. He could send one or several of his better General toward Siberia or into a reeducation center. These Generals could reapear later with a different HQ rating. Or the building of early tank units could prevent slow down the industry evacuation. Unspent money could get lost from burocracy. Or to much money in the bank could reduce the overal income. -
1870 Franco-Prussian War AAR
xwormwood replied to Bill101's topic in Strategic Command - World War 1: The Great War 1914-1918
Bill really creates great campaigns. That is what i'm preaching since years. What you clearly can see is that he is willing to go the extra mile, to create atmosphere, to give each campaign its very own soul. That is why I still consider SC WW1 as the best strategic war game out there. -
