So are German forces "better" on average?
Destraex1 replied to LongLeftFlank's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
It sounds like everybody here is argueing about different things. Are we talking about the entire german army on a: a) Economic level technological level c) strategic level d) operational level e) tactical level What exactly does German forces mean? -

Dual Mac/PC download license
Destraex1 replied to squatter's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
The cost is in having to buy a windows license to run on bootcamp Windows OS licenses are usually tied to a computer for its life. Although I expect if that computer died and the MAC was its replacement the Windows license can move to the MAC. Thats the only legal way around the $300 or so windows license I can think of for MAC users with boot camp. -
a) In the transcripts, ordinary German soldiers relate how they raped and then killed their female victims, for example. They tell of the casual way in which they killed civilians, in one case simply shooting a man to get his bike... or elsewhere in the article the strafing of civilians for fun the truth shall make ye fret.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-13141495 After looking through thousands of transcripts where bugged cells had informers planted to start conversations where the allies thought information might be had. German soldiers along with Japanese and Italian are revealed. It seems that the German soldier on average really was a brutal win at all costs killer, rapist and murderer. Who will play the villains when CMBN is released? For me I just like the sexiness of the German equipment and the bad guy that nobody plays underdog. But I don't mind playing either side. Does anybody have guilt twinges playing the Germans?

yes. great effort mate.

i remember an old submarine alternative history game you could voice command. It was a gimic that proved flawed. It meant you could not talk to anybody while playing. How can I used my joystick and foot pedals with cmbn??

Wanting to buy this game but...
Destraex1 replied to Hetzer21's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I saw a good DRM scheme the other day. Brady Games water marks .pdf ebooks you but with your name on every page. Apart from that their is nothing stopping you reading it and transfering it to any devices you like. Non-invasive and bleeding obvious if your not the owner. -
Will the camera controls make a progress as well?
Destraex1 replied to DeLaVega's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Wiggum what you say is totally incorrect. Many a game has been a flop due to poor interface. CMBN will not be because their is nothing that comes close. If their was competition in this area camera controls would be something that would bring CMBN down a notch. -

I tend to use a "fire brigade" style command. Rushing around micro managing once the main effort has been planned and assigned. I like to rush around doing a little micro and watching the action unfold. This is very hard to do when just getting a good view of multiple units in an action can be painfull. Then having to move off to do it again even more so. If it is intended for the human to act as the squad commanders then he\she needs to be able to get down on the field quickly and accurately. Sins of a Solar empire which is an RTS on a huuuuge scale has an interface that does this well. Where ever the mouse pointer is pointing is exactly where scroll will zoom you into. If you happen to be hovering over a particular ship it zooms right into it even if its moving. Its seamless and makes the game possible on the scale it deals with. You go from universe view to an individual ship in seconds. Sins of a Solar empire though has the BEST mouse interface I have ever seen. -

oh nice. Still seems like your telling me movement requires me to stop everything else and concentrate on that. -

How do you whip the camera around accurately with the slightest motion? I still think this game would benefit from the ability to move around the battlefield while turning. Its like modern tanks not having to stop to fire like ww2 tanks had to. Its a huge advantage. Less of a pain in the butt for users Does it mean I will not buy the game? no. But I know a few people who will not, because they consider the interface clumsy and backwards. Compared to other games I have to agree. -

Destraex1 replied to DeLaVega's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
hmmm. I do not agree. But will have to pay more attention next time I play CMSF... its been a while. What I remember is trying to "guess" the place my mouse cursor needed to be to swivel the camera. Something that happens naturally in all the games I mention. I should also point out that in all of those games I get down on the ground for over 50% of the game. Thats the way I love to play. I like watching the antics and results of a local action. Its the reward for all of the planning and also the view that gives the most information about how exactly the result came about. I know more than one person that has completely rejected CMSF because of the annoying camera. -

I agree. There are a few grogs here who are not "widely read" so to speak. Anyone who has ever played a Total War war, company of heroes or sins of a solar empire game will realise how easy things can be. Go download the demos for the latest of those games and come back to me. What CM needs is the ability for players to use fine motor skills to accurately zoom while moving the camera. There should be no need to stop and turn in order to zoom in on a squad. Similarly their should be no need to stop and select a squad before zooming in. From their, once zoomed, in it should be an easy affair to zoom out again accurately or move across the terrain spinning the camera every which way like you are hunting for something. Jutland however is another indy game that uses the same camera controls as CMSF.... I would attribute it to the games being indy in-house engines without the benefit of a highly developed mouse module. You don't have the benefits of a pre-paid base engine or a large team working on a mature in-house engine. For me its good enough and I will not complain about it. Just a lot clumsier than other games. -
Failure: Strom of War, or IL2 Clifts of Dover
Destraex1 replied to Cid250's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I agree. Two games I own had releases badly affected by UBI. Silent Hunter V and Cliffs of Dover. Both games are absolute stars. Silent Hunter V came off the worst.... so many features in that game did not get turned on in the release. -
Patton's theory about Tank Mgs

hmmm CMSF can simulate all this. Lets turn to it for advice and live testing. -

um... i own this game and it has all the features I want. They are patching within the next few weeks and if the patch features are as promised this will be a worthy successor to il2. I agree that performance is a problem on release. But the game itself is amazing! As for the CM normandy I saw at the live preview. I do not think they will need to patch to make it enjoyable from day0. -
yes pretty much. What I mean is for instance that a few tigers could for an entire day hold up entire russian tank columns. Causing massive bleed in the Russian army. At least temperarily, they fought for thier lives holding one prong of a larger strategic operation on in some cases one of the main roads that offensive was using. This means that the german big cats were indeed very effective tank for tank.

The other thread about the german squads being more effective than the allied ones brings me to a question about firepower. The BAR was standard in AMi squads... should we call 10-15 man sections squads? Anyway, the .30 cal browning on bipod or tripod. Was this deployed in the support company element and brought up for specific missions? Was it ever deployed to squads for offensives?
