You seem to be forgetting that a US 57mm ATgun has a six-man crew, and the Jeep only has five passenger seats. Therefore, in order to tow the gun you need to dismount the driver of the Jeep. Also keep in mind that you will need a second Jeep if you want to move the AT ammo bearers.

Not quite the same but one of grandfathers was in the Royal Navy during the war.  He would get as far as saying he was in the Far East and then refuse to say any more.  I can only imagine.
My other grandfather had a better experience, he was in a protected occupation moving coal around by train.

Ya i'm from Norfolk in the UK and 1 of the Norfolk battalions landing in Singapore just before the mass surrender, so many of my friends grandads were there, some were very strange, some very angry all the time, some had serious stomach complaints and some were really nice to us kids in the seventies whilst growing up. But as you say the stories died with them, nobody asked and most didn't want to bring it back up. Cheers

Me 2, my old dad was in 5th Para, served in North Africa, Italy and dropped in Normandy on June 6... injured and was posted to the secret SS POW camp in Scotland, where he fell asleep on duty and got a few weeks in the glasshouse peeling spuds...lol He would have been 100 in Feb but he died in 1970. I was only 5 when he died but I remember him showing me para photos.... been reading about the war ever since...

Rummaged around in my previous experiments box and found the burnt tree - it's not really finished and would really need some other burnt textures to go with it for best effect. I made a quick and dirty crater mod that gives a nice burnt hole in the ground, works quite well with a large crater but ALL the other craters will be burnt as well. In the long run it may be better to have a flavour object that represents some burnt stuff. Anyway it does make me wonder about a new landscape mod ... Total Destruction®©™ - War is Hell®©™ - type of thing, lots of burnt terrain textures, destroyed vehicles and smashed buildings ... here's a few pics of what I've mashed together ...

Small tree type - kinda works, texture a bit smeared. Would be nice with some of @JM Stuff's burnt wrecks...

Tall tree - works well for this one, textures can be renamed for any of the tree models - just a case of experimenting ...

Large tree type - mmm that's better, big craters as well ...

    It burns us ...
More work needed but it's getting there.
These are all set for Spring with the spring mod tag so they show up in Berlin 1945, again more tweaking could have them show up for any time of year other than snowy winter.
That's as much as I can manage for now folks - not long till I'm fixed and back to it I hope ...

Interesting, I wonder if this can be altered in any way, another project for Blender to add to the list.
I do like a bit of family history. Your Mum's panzer might have been a half-track, but yeah, my memories of when I was six are pretty sketchy to say the least and they're a bit more recent than your Mum's. Happy 85th Birthday to her!

Come to think of it, they did say that 314 was shot up quite bad - a 6 pounder shot jammed the left drive sprocket and a PIAT took out the right - those'd probably weaken the tracks. The left track is clearly damaged in the photos.
Just off to order me dots now - do you think ten packs of these would cover 131?
    "Haarrrolllld!"

Hehe! Thanks JM, I'll grab some of your wrecks and drop the trees into a Berlin setting for better atmosphere in the next screen grabs.
Thanks. No ash on the trees ... yet. The texture for the trees and the hole in the ground were just some quick experiments I whipped up last year. They need a bit of finesse. And as you spotted the burnt patch did actually go under a wrecked vehicle, originally a quick mod made in a discussion about dirt roads ...

Never really resolved how to make it more flexible, ie something we could place anywhere whether it be a road, a field or a city street ... the way to go is probably make it as a flavor object, but I've not yet been able to get back to it on account of waiting for a cataract operation (v.soon now).
The trees are also likely to manifest as flavor objects as well. I made a quick attempt and it was actually quite successful. The texture will be reworked and one or two will probably feature ash, a burnt pine would also be good.
Trouble is once I start to look at this I can see we then need a burnt bush or two, some burnt brush, grass, weeds ... endless. We'll see...

If that was indeed the sorry state of affairs, I imagine the track 'broke' as it hit terra firma.  It's perhaps a break in an odd place (i.e above the wheels) , but then track links and pins aren't designed for such frivolous bouncing around.
I'm currently cutting out a stencil, and will head to Bovington in the morning to try it out.  If you're at a loose end you could meet me there with a packet of coloured dots.  I'll be the one being escorted from the premises.

lol....Brandenburg Gate would be way beyond my current Blender abilities. But one could dream. 😐
Sooo, got it all installed and running. Though fairly slow (FPS) going as could be expected with urban maps of size like these (Moltke and Chancellory). Suffice to tell it´s the best and most detailed devastated urban maps I´ve seen yet. Haven´t even looked at all details and flavor objects but overall impression is simply gorgeous! 😎 (maybe wrong term considering current ongoing catastrophes...but oh well. Apologies.😶)
Some first and more detailed feedback, as I´ve worked on similar stuff some time ago.
    1. Looks like most ground textures are based on post war Berlin where there was better and dryer weather and ground conditions. Bits of looks like Baghdad or Mosul grounds, paired with european buildings and stuff. I´ve test inserted my own rubble mod (ground rocky red, ground heavy rocks and heavy rocks rubble) and found it looks more consistent with some other ground textures also blending better with related flavor objects (junk types). https://www.thefewgoodmen.com/cm-mod-warehouse/combat-mission-battle-for-normandy/cmbn-scenery/rhz-cmbn-rubble/

But these as well lack some certain detail which we sadly see in current UKR war footage or Florida. ☹️ It´s the lack of crushed furnitures and stuff one expects to fall from recently destroyed homes. So I´d imagine creating some new ground textures (rocks, rubble or other suitable ones) that adds to this impression. Maybe some mix of rubble and this one (who´s author btw?) https://www.thefewgoodmen.com/cm-mod-warehouse/combat-mission-shock-force-2/cmsf2-scenery/cmsf2-street-scene-rubbish-brown-stream-amended-rubble-and-rural-wall-and-wooden-48m-bridge/

Some adaptions to other ground textures might be necessary so that all blend better overally. I could well imagine we can achieve environmental quality similar to ARMA3 maybe. Also thinkable would be 2 alternative sets with one beeing the dry postwar looks and another a gritty bad weather one like mentioned above?
So far so good. 😎 Just loaded (quick battle) maps and got my impressions there. Trying next is some battle and see how it performs with various force sizes and amount of given flavor objects and texture sizes. I tend to replace certain ground textures with 1k ones as I found it´s not always visually benefical to use 2k or above. But I´m running my game at 1920x1080 so I could gain a few FPS while not diminishing visual quality.

Speaking of modular buildings you can import its single components in Blender only. Import load some with name "wall" in it. That´s what I remember ATM. You can see the "apertures" then. Think their geometry is also stored in *.mdr files in multiple ways, like is for independent buildings and pillboxes. So IMO this is what actually defines what goes into and out of these structures/objects re LOF and LOS. Though have no proof for that and it´s just from observation and making my mind about that.
Re Breslau my mom visited it 2 or 3 times since the iron curtain lifted. I was never there. I´m a born "RhineIander" and feeling as such. I remember she told they (part of my family, incl. my grandpa which was a heavily wounded yet convalescent "Gefreiter" from 96th ID) were moved out by means of a "Panzer", but considering at that time she was a 6 year old I´d guess it was just any sort of a tracked vehicle. Got to ask her again, if she likes talking about it. This topic was never popular (to say it mildly) in my family, but I´ll see. She celebrates her 85th very soon.
Btw. beside some other goodies I found and downloaded NPye´s Berlin mod already and install it all later today. 😎

Sounds close enough. Could be a Wyvern Steptoe picked it up.
Good find, though I don't need more distractions!
    First part of the three
Quite often they bulldozed these things off the side of the road just to get the roads open quickly, rolled over on it's side then possibly. It's a bit odd though 'cos where it's been knocked out in the lane both sides of the road have fairly step banks, so really no way to move it other than by towing. Hand brake off and pull it into a field. But then its been rolled on its side, and somehow ends back on a section of track ... as you say, who knows.

"Rear area" doesn't give us much to go on, so it is hard to say. The Wyverns led off Bluecoat in the XXX Corps sector. I don't how thinly 654 was spread during that battle and whether or not they came up against them as well as 15th Scottish and their Guards support. It might just be that it was towed into their rear area after the fighting had moved on.

We might find the answer here:
Wyvern at War: The Story of the 43rd (Wessex Division) from June 1944 to V.E. Day
    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1914155/?ref_=tt_ov_inf

It doesn't seem to be available now though.  Perhaps you watched it on release, as you're 'of a certain age'?
