  1. Actually, Compassion and Geordie, you took the words right out of my mouth. First game ever I played (as the Allies versus the AI at the default settings), I managed to halt the German assault in the east and it quickly turned into a war of attrition. "Wow, this feels like WWI", I thought to myself. "I bet a WWI game like this would be fun." I second (or third or fourth or whatever) the motion, but it's obviously going to have to be a new game rather than a mod. But the idea is a great one. Guy [Edited for spelling. Attition? What the heck is that??] [ August 14, 2002, 07:55 PM: Message edited by: GWDWD ]
  2. From the review... This bugs me too. I don't remember it being discussed before. Did I just miss it? Guy
  3. Let's pretend for a second that the Allied player is unable to hold France despite his/her best efforts. The Vichy France government is established and it goes the whole war without being attacked by Axis or Allied powers. When Paris is captured/France is liberated, should Vichy France still exist as a seperate country? Why/why not? You're not dealing with a history genius here, so... Guy
  4. I've been beaten by the rest, time to get beaten by the best. (Sorry Lurkur and Prinz Eugen.) Give me the Ruskies in '41. Prefer a small battle, since I don't want to prolong the agony. But it will be fun, and I can tell my grandkids that... Well, shoot, it will just be fun. SIX WEEKS!! (or thereabouts) Guy
  5. Make that two sightings in the Big Ugly Hat State. Hee hee, wait until my poor unsuspecting brother in Ohio gets the copy I ordered for him. He has his dissertation defense in two weeks. I'm evil. Guy
  6. Noooooooooooooo! Two term papers due in the next two weeks, and now this. I knew I shouldn't have pre-ordered. Maybe I'll get lucky and the USPS will lose mine. Maybe I'll be able to resist opening the package once it arrives. Maybe I'll have to take the same courses again next semester... Guy
  7. Well, someone in-the-know will be along soon enough to correct me, but... I'm pretty sure the (50) refers to the "ammo" or number of "shots" the FT has. One burst usually equals one "shot", though if I remember correctly at long ranges (close to the 75m) it can use two "shots" for each burst. Jeff
  8. This former resident of Columbia and Charleston says: D'OH!
  9. The Fellowship of the Newbie Tourney thread on page FOUR?! Unacceptable!
  10. I'd love to, but I don't know enough people who might be interested. Only 2 brothers, ya know. Only one would be into this sort of thing... That leaves 9 copies left courtesy of GWDWD... Guy
  11. Pirating software (or music or movies) is wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong. Having said that, I would venture a guess that everyone on this board has done it before. Why is it so different this time? Here's my $0.02... What made this so egregious is that this is a COMMUNITY, and this jackass crossed over the line of the community’s standards in a BIG way. I can’t imagine stealing from BFC, let alone boasting about it on this board and the newsgroup mentioned earlier. (Not that I condone stealing from other, perhaps larger, software companies.) I would never approve of what Hags did, but I wasn’t as outraged as I am now until I went and read his posts on the Usenet group mentioned. Apology, my ass. What really ticked me off was the other Schweinehunden there whining about how awful “company boards” are and how BFC is just out to get this guy... give me a break. If they spent more than 15 minutes in this COMMUNITY they would see how wrong they are, which of course they don’t, because they don’t want to. BFC has earned their money from me many times over. Just take a look at CMBO, which cost me say $60 including shipping and handling… had it for 8 months = $7.50/month... I play 1 hour/day on the average (actually it's much more but I'm trying to hide my addiction). That works out to... $0.25/hour. Try finding something as engrossing for a freaking quarter an hour. Can’t be done. I’d pay 10 times a much in a heartbeat, and I still wouldn't expect the support and commitment that BFC provides. That's not even mentioning these bulletin boards, which are the most entertaining I have found so far. They ain't free, and I haven't spent a penny for them. I just can’t believe someone would steal something that costs $25 and brag about it. These people obviously have issues much deeper than wanting to steal software. But just for kicks, let’s make it like that old TV show whose name I can’t recall (help me out here). Email me with your hardship story about why you can’t afford SC and I will take your case into consideration. I am NOT rich by virtually anyone's standards but I make far more money than I can spend. (Has a lot more to do with few material wants than a high income.) I pledge at least $250 out of my own pocket to support BFC, and if I don't make it that far because people think I'm a crackpot (they wouldn't necessarily be wrong), I will donate the difference to a charity of BFC's choosing. Respectfully and thankfully (though donning a flame-retardant suit just in case), Guy
  12. Really? From 400m? That's a really gosh darn long way. Sorry, I'm pathetic and I play against the AI a lot, but I thought this was just WEIRD. Never seen anything like it. Guy
  13. Rear, actually. But 400m?? How lucky can you get?? Guy
  14. In a QB against the AI tonight (not my fault, I'm waiting for turns in FOUR PBEMs), a regular British rifle squad took out a SP Gun? from 400 meters. Eliminated, mind you, not abandoned. In any case, WOW!! That's some shootin'! I'll post the screen shots once I figure out how... Guy EDIT: I beg your pardon. It WAS eliminated, not abandoned. 15. A few weeks ago I was bored at work and was browsing through the archives from 2000-2001. I was AMAZED at how much more the BTS guys posted back then compared to last 6 months or so (since I've become a BFC forum junkie). Ooooooo, CMBB is gonna be good!! Guy
  16. You people are sick! Why don't you do some volunteer work or something instead of begging for crumbs all the time? These folks are busy, so move along and live your lives. CMBB will be here eventually, and it will be everything you expected and more. Geez. Guy P.S. Bump!
  17. I'm not sure which I'd rather see: the requested factory bone, or how long y'all are going to keep this up before you consider it a lost cause. Errrrr, now that I think about it, the factory. Guy P.S. Bump!
  18. Not that I'm qualified to give advice to anyone about anything, but... First: Have fun! It's a game after all. Second: Learn as much as you can. Watch what he does, and ask why. You never know, your current tough opponent might soon turn into a great mentor. Third: Keep it realistic unless this is a gamey "anything goes" tournament. Sometimes it seems like the greatest challenge is how to get as many guys as possible out of a deathtrap... but you learn and go on. Guy
  19. MD wrote: LOL. Hey, if you need me I'll weigh in on the CM players' side, cuz I love the game that much. In the meantime I'll be over at the all-you-can-eat Mexican buffet. Guy Who Doesn't Wanna Skip Dinner (Ever)
  20. Yeah, well, I don't remember seeing THAT in the manual! Live and learn, I guess. (Well, all my volksgrenadiers are dead now so they won't learn, but...) Guy
  21. Great job again, Ted! I knew your AARs were good, but it was only after seeing in the demo how quickly the game moves that I realized how much work it must be to make note of everything that happens. I found this picture a little creepy with all of those German transports in the Channel. Heck, we ALL might be drinking lagers from Munich had this actually happened and succeded. Maybe I'm just missing it in all the detail, but what have you been trying to develop from a research standpoint? Also, are you happy with the fight the AI is putting up? Thanks for your time and effort. HC and BFC certainly knew what they were doing when they asked you to be the guy for this. Now, will someone PLEASE take my $25 and send me the game!? 22. Ha! And my SO laughed at me when I told her I'd like to stay up late tonight to have a couple of beers (anyone tried the Paulaner Munich Lager?) and surf the BFC boards... Guy
  23. In a foggy scenario with visability limited to about 200m, I painfully learned tonight that the German 210mm rockets land pretty much wherever they feel like it, even when the spotter has LOS to the target area. Be careful with them! Your troops will thank you. Everyone else probably already knew this, but I just started playing the Axis side after playing as the Allies pretty much exclusively for the 6 months or so I've had the game. Guy
