  1. Nice to see that my strategies live on even after I've (more or less) retired. But I wanted to point out that I've hung up my gloves with a 13:1 win record (+ 2 unresolved games). Most games as allies. Delaying the fall of France is vital. And if the inevitable retreat (against a strong player) is needed, the important units can be saved. It is not a 'all-or-nothing-roll-of-the-dice.' It's 'make-the-germans-pay-dearly-for-every-step-they-take-then-get-the-heck-out.' Cheers
  2. Agreed. All you had to do before was specify any additional languages you spoke, no big deal. The current system is a mess for non-CM players.
  3. Can we all agree to a moratorium on the use of the word 'quagmire'?
  4. Experience and Research clearly do have some effect on play balance, but removing them just isn't an option. You could remove the U-boots and that might help play balance. You could remove Germany's armored divisions and that would definitely help play balance. But I'm sure you see what I'm saying. Experience makes the game a lot more fun (and realistic), as can research (not neccessarily this model). I do think that the pillaging rewards are worthy of closer investigation however. As when you play a higher level AI, the values could be reduced.
  5. Experience is so important. Nothing like having that 4 stripe panzer division ready for special missions. Research, in some form or another, is similary crucial, I think. But yeah, those pillaging values do seem a little strange, and certainly contribute to the Axis play-imbalance.
  6. Man, and I was just starting to come to grips with my SC problem... (btw guys, the first step is to admit that you have a problem.)
  7. Hey while were off-topic about armchair generals and who among us is really qualified to lead a war effort, what about Adolf Hitler? Did he not do exactly what we're doing now, in this game? An ordinary man (albeit with some WWI trench experience) trying to run a war. I suppose he had some excellent and some not-so-excellent advisors. All I have is this stinkin discussion forum (Disclaimer: Hitler is infamous for his atrocities against humanity. Let us never forget these, but also not allow them to prevent intelligent discussion, a virtue of humanity.)
  8. Can you save a TCP/IP game and resume it at a later time? That would rock!
  9. There's 'Diplomacy', the 1999 Avalon Hill/Hasbro version of the ole board game. ... having never played it, but quoting from the gamespot review: Not only is the interface clunky and awkward, but the artificial intelligence is terrible, and the multiplayer support is buggy. - Michael E. Ryan Woohoo!
  10. I only know that on two occasions, after completing Sea Lion (and taking Norway before starting Barbarossa) Finland remained neutral throughout the game. (Sweden was untouched.) For me this worked out well, since I find them to be something of a liability (apologies to all Finns of course...)
  11. I managed to lead the Allies to a win after losing France in the summer of 1940 (late July I believe). I was actually pretty sure I was toast, but the barbarossa campaign wasn't too well executed. The german player couldn't break through the layers of corps and eventually the British fighters (highly experienced from the strategic bombing of France) helped knock out Brest and give us a foothold. And the rest is history...
  12. I think the best use for bombers is disbanding them and using the 225 MPP as a downpayment on a new fighter wing. I'd love to see some changes made which would make them an economically viable unit. Maybe if fighters couldn't hit resources?
  13. Hi just noticing that personal settings like Sound Effects and the Grid seem to be shared in PBEM games. If the players have different tastes then they end up turning them off and on and so on, for every turn. Ideally these settings should be user-specific. Not that I don't enjoy playing 'Grid War'...
  14. Just gloating here, but my 9:1 PBEM victory/loss ratio (and climbing) argues that there is some merit to disbanding naval units (not all of them). It's a cornerstone in my defence of France.
  15. There's a 5% chance of it being added every week. In the winter, it drops to a 5% chance per month. Just kidding, I think it's hoped to be later this month.
