  1. I remember being pleased with myself for tracking down a copy for £15. Only a few months later it was available in a compilation with several other wargames for less!! Now it is available free. Anyone know if Hicom for Windows will ever be made?
  2. I wonder what proportion of visitors to this site are also (or were also?) board wargamers. Under conservative estimates my collection is worth (and insured for) £5000 but 99% are entombed in boxes probably never to be played again. Maybe I'll take them along to the antiques roadshow one day......... My personal favourite is AH's Russian Campaign followed by XTRs Storm in the West.
  3. Also something of interest on (URL DELETED) (No posting of "dubious" links allowed) [ September 08, 2002, 12:47 PM: Message edited by: Moon ]
  4. Sorry to disagree with the general trend here but HICOM was not such a bad game. Suggest anyone reading this decides for themselves by going to http://www.ryanbailey.com/hicom/hicom.html The game is free although it takes a bit of work to get it going on modern systems.
  5. Computer piracy will not be stopped by the requirement to put the cd in the machine because 1. The cd can copied easily by anyone with a CD-Rewriter. The so called "protection" measures on commercial cds are easily worked around (so I have been told..ahem) 2. There are web sites who make no-cd patches available for download. If the requirement is left on SC 1.03, 1,04 etc. then a SC no-cd patch will be produced for download within a matter of days. Please please please leave it off!!
  6. And please please please get rid of that completely unnnecessary cd check. What is it for anyway? I run the game on a laptop and the last thing I want to do is carry around the CD. If its to stop people passing around the CD to load onto different computers it will not work as people will just make copies of the CD. If anyone agrees with please post your support (bootleggers need not bother)
  7. There seems to be quite a few downloads for SC dotted around the place. Rather than having to trawl through loads of messages to find them could they not be gathered in one place on this site? Also could there be the facility for users to grade/review them so that others can decide which downloads are worth downloading? Other sites do this eg. Apolyton for the Civ games
  8. This game is great. Would it be possible for a mod to create a WW1 game from it or would it require a complete redesign??
  9. I have played the game several times (against the A1) and whilst I feel comfortable about land/air operations and research I feel clueless about using the navy. Are there any tutorials about this?
