  1. Lt Col Speirs, thanks and rest in peace. At least spell his name correctly...
  2. Very cool! I will DL and wander around om it later tonight. Thanks!
  3. I am reading "Island of Fire" by Jason Mark. It is the story of the battle for the Barrikady Factory in Stalingrad, Nov '42-Feb '43. It is an excellent book. One of the great features of the book is a large fold out map of the factory area down to the Volga riverbank. I just went to maps.google.com and looked at Volgograd. Wow! I saw the area where the Kommisars House once stood. The outline of the building is still visible. In the book, it says the building was demolished in 2003. It is amazing to me to see that area in a bright, color photograph. You can actually zoom in pretty close, too. Amazing.
  4. It has been a while. I see that the Scenario Depot is defunct. Most of the links at CMHQ are inop. Where will I find any scenarios for CM:BB? Thanks!
  5. I got my copy from JJ Fedorowicz a couple of weeks ago. What a treat of a read. Very detailed. Nicely written, despite a few editing/grammar/spelling errors. Highly recommended. And the map is way cool. It actually took me 2 days to discover it, lol...
  6. I know this isn't strictly CM related, but you guys are the most knowledgable guys I know... And I have a sneaking suspicion that it is a simple fix. My Internet Explorer has been hijacked! It always retains "about:blank" as a home page - even after I try to set it back to battlefront.com. I can re-set it, and it stays, but if I end my browser session, it comes back as about:blank (a search engine, I guess... Also, I get tons of thos annoying pop-ups. Tons. I have installed and updated Norton. I have installed SpyBot, and also a pop-up killer. Nothing has worked. Any ideas, chaps?
  7. Hi Schrullenhaft, Yes indeed, I meant only files, not progs. It went very well, actually. I appreciate the help!
  8. Any tips on the best way to move all those files, sp painstakingly DL-ed to my old system, to my new hard drive? I am thinking of installing my old HD into the new box, and using My Computer to click and drag them all over. Is this do-able? Thanks in advance
  9. Excellent, Rune! I was not aware of this museum. That is precisely why I posted this thread, thank you. I will certainly make the trip to see it very soon - as well as the one just inside Wisconsin, before it closes.
  10. I live in Chicago, and have seen a number of tanks and AFVs on display here. Here are the examples I know about: 1. A Stuart on Grand Avenue by California (or so...) in a park. 2. Another Stuart in DeKalb, not far off the main drag. 3. There is a Pershing on Lake Street in one of the western suburbs, not exactly sure of the cross street. 4. Also, not really my neighborhood, but cool nonetheless... what appears to be an amphtrack (Marine landing AFV) right off of Route 20, west of Michigan City, Indiana. 5. Oh, and what appears to be an outdoor museum (that has a Sherman out front) just into Wisconsin off the I-94, exit 348. Other than that, I remember a tank on the Eight Mile Armory in Southfield Michigan. I remember seeing an article about the M-60, and I think this one was a one-only model of a M-60A-2. Could be wrong there, though. What about you guys? Do you know more in Chicagoland? Or elsewhere? What priceless relics are in your neighborhood? PS I remember seeing one - don't remember the type - on a corner while riding the train south out of Chicago a few years back...
  11. Did a search on abe.com and others, but there seems to be a lack of books on Russian tanks along the lines of "Tigers in Combat". Looking for lots of good photos of late war Stuff. Any suggestions?
  12. Not being familiar with any type of tank-driving, I thought I would be specific to the Tiger in particular. I have lots of references, but they are almost all unit histories and combat histories... so, no "driving instructions" as it were. Was it a gas pedal and a brake pedal? With differential clutches operated by each hand? (For steering). How did one shift gears? Was it a system comparable to other tanks? I have read that Russian tanks were extremely exhausting to drive...
  13. Umm... confession time here... I am not an historian... I also am not, nor have I ever been, in the US Army. I apologize for that signature. It is more in a spirit of the game/sim that we indulge that I put that in my signature years ago. It was not unlike the "persona" I assumed in an online fighter squadron back then. I apologize especially to those who are, or have been, in the US military. It was never my intention to be taken seriously on that. It has been removed.
