Paper and Practice: Russian Recon in 1941
V replied to jacobs_ladder2's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
heh, more like, just wait and the Germans will drive around you.... -
Hi. I was reading an account of the German offensive on Stalingrad. One passage mentions the Germans capturing a train loaded with lend lease equipment. It goes on to say that the German's loved the American JEEP and considered it far superior to their own Kübelwagen. I checked CMBB and noticed that the only captured equipment the Germans have access to are Soviet made tanks. I know that the Soviets prefered their own armor to American/British Lend Lease equipment, but they loved the Jeep and the 2.5 ton trucks. Considering that the Soviets received over 200,000 2.5 Ton trucks and 78,000 Jeeps, I would imagine the Germans would have had a number of opportunities to capture them. So, I assume BF.C did not add them to the German unit list because of rarity? Since the info is already in the game, it would have been pretty cool to have the Germans have access to the Jeep at high cost. I know there will be no more patches, but maybe something to keep in mind should Cmx2 head back to the Ostfront. Jeep and truck numbers lifted from this website: http://www.feldgrau.com/econo.html

Using tanks to demolish buildings in CMX2 ?
V replied to noob's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Depends on the setting, but in theory all of this is possible. However, I think it is a very bad idea to get underground stuff, like sewers, simulated in detail unless the setting is pretty much all about that. It is a real bitch to pull off underground and above ground stuff from a user interface standpoint </font> -
I found this: It appears they didn't even bring their panzers with them!

Using tanks to demolish buildings in CMX2 ?

ON a related note, does anyone know if they plan to model basements in some buildings int he next version of CM? -
cool, thanks for the info. I didn't realize the extent of their deployment.

Yea, not much room to move around when going up the boot, also not much to defend. Anyone know how much armor the Germans actually fielded and lost in the Italian campaigns?

What are some other great hard core strategy Games?

Have you tried Rome: Total War? I loved MTW, but I think Rome even tops that one. All the TW games are great, I've owned all three of them. -

Bull Run Take Command 1861 from Madminute Games. A great new American Civil War game. [ March 19, 2005, 02:34 PM: Message edited by: Moon ] -
But Stalin had that useless withered arm, so unless he had learned whip it about like a stegosaurus tail, he would have been pretty pathetic in a fist fight. </font>

Those are some very interesting ideas. I would love to see something like this in future versions. The map edges drive me crazy!

Unable to schedule a bombardment in turn 1.
V replied to Claw's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Strange I just checked the Manual that came with the pre-order of my mac version from battlefront and there is no such mention on Page 129, infact pre-planned bombardments is on page 132. I checked the manual from my PC CDV Special edition and on page 125 there is no mention either.... </font> -

I dont have much more to offer. And yes, I did bother to look and it is in my manual. Sorry, but I know too many people have pirated the game and then come here asking questions because they dont have a manual. So, excuse me for being skeptical. -
What really happened to the Russians in 1941
V replied to JasonC's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
That would have sucked. The Soviets would have captured Istanbul and had their all weather port that had always been the Russian dream. Would have made for a much more interesting Cold War with the Bosphorus open to the Soviet Navy. -

Great stuff Jason. I know we are discussing the great battles of '41, but I was wondering at what point does Stavka finally 'get it?' And how? -
Nuts!
