Well, I recently did a quick "fire observer" (direct-translated from Swedish, we separate the duties of the FO to the "fire leader" who talks directly to the artillery unit and decides what kind of fire should be used and the "fire observer" who only reports target position and type to help the "fire leader") course and they didn't tell us that we had seconds to live The job was mostly laying prone at a good OP with a compass, laser-rangefinder (if we go hi-tech) and a radio prepared to send coordinates. It didn’t feel so deadly. I assume that if the enemy finds out where we are we are smoked but with all radio communication in the air I don’t think they will get our location. I for one would love to see that the next CM game is completely dedicated to wire-laying featuring all the latest über cable laying units...
  5. In one of my early games I invaded England. When I took London US prepared for war and they declared war shortly afterwards. Their transporters arrived at the shore just in time to witness England surrender and they went home fast after that. Unfortunately used too much units (they were useless anyway since England got crowded) and Russia declared war and attacked my empty front before the game ended...
  6. The game is GREAT! I have been playing it for several hours and with many different strategies (amazing what one can do in one year only ) I have some suggestions for improvement: Show the tension level on the main screen (it is easy to forget it when it is on another screen) Make a "next unused unit" button to help finding units and making it shaded (or so) when all units have been considered prevents forgetting anything (a lone sub in the Atlantic for example) I don't have any knowledge of naval combat but it is very "fast" in the game. Italy could wipe out all allied ships in the med in two turns (and destroying their navy at the same time) and French fleets could sail into Kattegat and destroy the entire German navy... Perhaps if naval units could sustain more damage the naval war would last longer?

I don't use a boot disk but in order to get COS to work on Win XP you must set the EMS memory allocation on all exe files to about 9mb (i don't now the minimum but 9 works) and run a program to edit the cos2.exe. The program can be found at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/clashofsteel/ under files. The filename is tppatch.zip and fixes an old turbo pascal command used in the game (that gives you the 200 error)
  8. A3R and all its variants (including the new GW2000) can be played on a PC with the help of Warplanner (there is no AI though). This solves the problem with limited space but unfortunately not the problem with limited time but it's all about prioritizing...
  9. I'm loosing my mind waiting for this game. I understand that it have to take its time to be good and so what to do? Are there any similar computer game out there to help me get through the wait (I now about High Command but there have to be more than that)??? HELP ME
  10. When I read the book I got the impression that SLAM wanted to change the training of soldiers and used the "ratio of fire" to get attention to his thoughts. This is of course a bad way to do it (don't cry wolf) but i think the made his point anyway.
  11. This look like a diciplin problem. I suggest you use another tank and shoot a couple of greandes over the top of the sherman, just to teach them who's in command...
  12. Well, maybe the question wasn't that clear. Another way of putting it could be "Is the points ratio for support weapons "correct" in the different force types? How much of that is realistic to buy guns (AT/IG) for?
  13. As far as i now most modern mortar rounds have mulit-option fuses and could be used both in proximity (better then VT) and other modes (impact, delayed, near surface)
  14. I think we should demand a apollo project style budget for CM2, devout an entire nation (or why not all?) to the development of the program. And of course an archenemy must be invented to help push the developers to the limit with competition...
  15. Forgive me if this question has been asked before but I couldn't find the answer by searching. I'd like to now how many guns (AT/IG) that was normally available to the Germans in the CMBO timeframe (say for a battalion). I understand that this would wary a lot depending on the situation, but if I wanted to play a American attack or assault against a German defender with ~2000 points what is a common number and which composition of the different guns are realistic.

  19. Yes, but the yanks are so loud that i hear it when i play as the germans to (and when i play britts but that is my problem ).

  22. I went trough the sound files and was amazed over how many wacky sounds that existed. It is a shame that they aren’t more frequent in the game. I am a bit tired of "Hustle up" and "Go, go, go"
  23. Maybe they have camouflage and sniper scopes? If they do it would be reasonable to make the sniper harder to spot but once spotted he would be a priority. The primary target for a sniper is another sniper.
