WEGO vs REAL TIME: Pre-release poll
Swift replied to Sixxkiller's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
RT is not more real then WEGO. You would not find yourself in absolute command over every unit as you are in a game. If you aim for realism you could play WEGO and give yourself a fixed time to give orders to each unit (or a fixed time for all orders depending on the number of units you have). In RTS games I find that I can outplay any computer AI on a small scale but since the AI can manage all units at the same time there is always some areas that the AI beats my (stupid) units. A WEGO system gives you the ability to control all units with the same detail and you don't end up selecting all units and just tell them to charge forward. What I really would like to see is a game that puts you in the position of the top commander that has limited view of the battle (like radio communications) and the ability to give out orders to subcommanders but not directly to units. However I think that such a game might be less fun to play then CM (as I am sure that it would take place in a tent or some tight vehicle with a map and a radio) -
A post from Moon said noon US time so that would be around 21.00 tonight if I am not wrong. Paradox European version is apparently already ready for download.

WEGO vs REAL TIME: Pre-release poll
Swift replied to Sixxkiller's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
I was hooked by CM due to WEGO. It is a brilliant combination of giving you time to give proper orders to all your units and still get the exciting feel of randomness and reality. In a game of this size there is not way that you can give detailed orders to every unit in RT. However as many of the demo players (and Steve) prefer RT I guess that there is some sort of intelligent commanding system that gives you the possibility to play commander and not bother with all the small level decisions. If that is the case then maybe I will like RT but if it is like all other RTS games out there and strategy only comes down to micro management skills (fast responses) then I will play WEGO and play games like Company of Heroes if I like a spot of RT madness. -
Demo today anouncement from Paradox
Swift replied to Cpl Steiner's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
The question is, what version of the game is the demo based on? From what I gather on this forum there is a big difference between 1.00 and 1.01 and Paradox's game is 1.00 (if I am not mistaken). Hopefully there will be a 1.01 Paradox patch out today to. -
In Sweden we focus on the AT role for our RR (we only have the Carl Gustaf left in service) but I suspect that they could be very usable in their AP-HE role. Is there any relatively realistic way to simulate the use of modern RR's in CM (in an AP role) and what CM unit resembles the Carl Gustaf most? PS. Jason, we never use the word rocket to describe the AT4 in Sweden. It might be a language thing but just in case you might call us sticklers
-
FAS claims that the AT4 is a RR but I don't now the definition of one so i'm not sure. What I do now is that the AT4 doesn’t fire a rocket. It fires a fin stabilized grenade. The M3 Carl Gustaf is rifled but also fires a fin stabilized grenade and the latest versions have a rocket motor attached to create a flatter trajectory.

The M136 and the M3 Carl Gustaf Rifle have the same caliber (84mm) and both are Swedish but made by different companies. The M3 might have ammunition that have the same warhead as the M136 but i'm not sure. Both weapons make a lot of noise when fired (and a forcefull shockwave). The M3 can be used to fire HE rounds (with a VT fuse) over 2000 meters. As stated in this thread the Germans (and other nations) used the recoilless rifle as a man-portable HE weapon when normal arty was impossible but i have read that the high cost of RR rounds compared with standard rounds (mostly the fact that RR rounds need (twice?) more propellant) made the ammunition scarse for German units.

This is the third time I say this to you: IF YOU DON'T HAVE COMBAT EXPERIENCE YOU SHOULDN'T DRAW THIS KIND OF CONCLUSIONS (excuse me for yelling but it might help). I will quote a post from the second page of this thread:

Yes, it is a bit too much like Swedish

There is a updated site of the RPG-43. It looks perfect in the game. The cloth stabilizer even moves...
