  1. The main issue is, regardless of whether it's realistic, the CM2 C2 system is complex, hard to understand, too subtle to easily see effects on unit performance (other than indirect arty of course), and basically is an overly complex with little reward PITA.
  2. The ammo you recover from WIA/KIA seems rather small for some reason.
  3. Sent the admin a message about the broken link. Suggest you all do same.
  4. Hitler made the (forced by Mussolini's stupidity) strategic error of spending several weeks conquering the Balkans, Greece etc so Barbarossa was delayed those crucial weeks. Then the Russian wet weather and winter came a bit early and was one of the worst. The German troops were not equipped for that climate as a huge gamble had been made to send only ammo to the front (extended and inadequate supply lines) on the expectation that Russia would collapse before winter. That gave the Russians time to re-equip with T-34's and (thanks to the lack of aggression of the Japs), transport tough Siberian divisions from the east to counterattack the Germans away from Moscow.
  5. "we could still be dissapointed over what we were expecting vs what they will deliver" LOL. History has shown that some people will ALWAYS be disappointed with the reality. I still want to be able to give verbal commands to my computer - and flamethrowers of course. Playing CM1 just so I can light up!!!
  6. Re FRAPS. Am embarrassed to say that I have it on my Win 7 system - but, I don't see any documentation as to how to actually use it. I start FRAPS and a little window opens: "General"; "FPS"; "Movies"; "Screenshots". The "Screenshots" tab says: Screen Capture Hotkey: F10 Are there crayon-level step by step instructions to capture a shot in CM2?
  7. "We blindly order..." Maybe for new fans that seems weird. But, for us old grognards, we've been blessed with a decade of the superb CM1, and then CMSF which only got better and better... plus CMA. So, it's an issue of trust, faith, and goodwill...
  8. A friend is involved in DOCUTAH (Southern Utah Documentary Festival) and we screen submissions. You would be surprised at how many docs come from the ME including Iran. I think we saw at least one from Iraq as well. The provide a fascinating window into what the younger gen are into over there.
  9. I simply copied all 3 of the CM1 game folders to a flash drive and copied each to my Win 7 machine (into a C:/ SIMS folder) and they work fine.
  10. I think we're pretty lucky to get ANY communication from the management of a development company. What other game sites provide better access to developers or give better customer support?
  11. My question is whether the way the troops use foxholes is actually abstracted. So, it may LOOK like the troops are in them a certain/weird way, but the system calculates it as if they are all using the foxholes the same way.
  12. Yeah, I also find the repository hard to use when you are looking for something specific. My solution has been to d/l everything that is posted and then decide what I want.
  13. One of the aspects on ABR I really appreciate is that they are (nearly ) all daylight scenarios. I can't understand how people play night scenarios without turning up the gamma and brightness so it looks close to daylight anyway. You can't see a bloody thing at night.
  14. I am just surprised that after all those CM1 years, this wasn't commonly known. I think I once knew, but have forgotten...
  15. That's what I meant by "an angle to the bocage". But, there must be some other parameters like the angle of the bocage itself(?) as sometimes it does not work as you described. In CMBN there are quite a few effects that are not 100% repeatable.
  16. USUALLY a single charge will only blast a small hole - it does depend on the angle of attack. SOMETIMES, you can order a blast at an angle to the bocage and one charge will give you a hole big enuff for an AFV. This is important as one usually does not have as many charges as one wants. USUALLY you can widen an existing small hole with a single charge to make an AFV-sized hole. However, SOMETIMES you can use two charges in succession and you still only get a small hole! Very frustrating when that happens. Also frustrating is when you use a charge at an angle and get a small hole. Then you use another charge back at an angle over the same hole, and get a second small hole a few meters away - now requiring a third charge to widen one of them!
  17. It may be a little while. Am in a CM1 tourny(!) and trying to complete a couple other CM2 campaigns.
  18. NEXT MISSION #5: Again, an interesting and unexpected set-up (for this campaign)... This mission seems to be primarily infantry (2 beat-up platoons plus a FO with only 2x81mm mortars) and only a 251/10 with 75mm gun and one 251/1 in support. Map is more like the usual tiny CMBN maps with little flanking opportunity. Started with one platoon on the left and one in the buildings by the main road in the R Center. The first 8 minutes: Mortared the closest objective buildings as well as the farm close to the rear map edge. Used the 251/10 to bombard the Grain Tower that the briefing said would be an enemy Ob Post. Then targeted the closest objective buildings when the mortar barrage lifted. Followed up with inf assault (always split into teams of course). Went quite well with minimal casualties. The left flank platoon ran into a HMG and a scout team that caused 30%-40% casualties before they were overwhelmed. The irony is that had I simply focused both platoons on the main road, the enemy forces on the left map edge would have had no LOS to my guys. So, now I have to decide whether to continue probing ahead on my left flank with the remnants, or bring em back to the main road and contine advancing up that. The briefing makes no mention of reinforcements, and ammo is aleady a little short. So not sure how to win this one. One hour and 12 minutes to go. Maybe my initial attack was too hasty.
  19. The last part of this scenario went well... Was able to get the goo quality reinforcing platoon round the left map edge and prep to attack the buildings (cross the river). A scratch force of engineers and the poor quality (reinforcement) platoon took the building in the center. And remnants of the original company attacked around the right map edge taking the buildings by the road. The TD and AC at the rear map edge succumbed to heavy arty. The AI surrendered with time to spare. I echo the previous post re having 3 PzV's with gun damage.
  20. There must be some upper lilmit on ammo carried as I have had teams be unable to take more. But, not sure if that applies only to things like Shrek rounds, Fausts, or also regular ammo. But, it's hard to see much degradation in performance even when loaded to the max. Imo, carrying a lot of weight, command bonuses, snipers etc all have way too subtle effects to be really useful or noticeable in an entertainment product.
  21. "Hey if you look up the barrel can you see if my pet hamster is still in there?"
  22. Got this earlier and it's good for a change. (Altho' for the start of battles and recon I liked the original with birds etc.)
  23. "They seem to have very little if no scruples at all." And you know this how...? Cos "Crappy News Network" told you? Or, are you a well-informed intelligence or somesuch operative? Alternatively, if you are living in Iran right now, or have in the past I will also listen... Having seen documentaries on rap etc made by regular people in Iran, it seems "the people" can be very much like us with similar interests. Religious extremists and cults are a problem whether in North Korea, Saudi Arabia or Utah.
