  1. It definitely looks very pretty... How does it handle logistics?
  2. Not talking about history so much as the heated discussion over some obscure aspect of a weapons system that gets us all hot and sweaty here.
  3. My point is that it's almost 100% certain that nothing will be resolved in the ME region within the span of a generation, let alone a few years.
  4. The DoD has dumped at least one multimillion dollar sim that didn't work. It's not always about how much things cost. And it all depends on what is being trained. eg: The Air Force uses a sim an old game designer colleague did for well under a million. So, it can happen.
  5. Maybe BF decided that they want to focus on perfecting the engine in CMBN so that they can get on with CMSF2 asap which by then could be good enough to be competitive in the lucrative market for DoD simulations?
  6. I was referring to the long term historically well-proven method of bloodbaths to solve social, ethnic and religious disagreements - probably going back to Cro-Magnon vs those Nandy-pandy men. Remember "Roman Peace?"
  7. "are just as niche as anything available here..." I think you'll find the players of CM games to be much weirder...
  8. Perhaps the point is that terrible things happen all over the world almost all the time. We only hear about the items that the "Media" reports on. The reality that has been taught to the US thanks to Iraq and A'stan (as was learned by all previous empires) is that there are limits on what one can do to save people from themselves. You can't easily change human nature in the same way one can't fight nature itself. Ultimately peoples eventually sort things out for themselves - usually bloodily. But, that's history and life... (unfortunately).
  9. You can't see if the tanks are shooting. The title says mortar shell landing near cameraman.
  10. I have killed bunkers with massive frontal small-arms fire over a period of minutes which also included rifle grenades (I think). The crew can be suppressed and panicked into quitting. IIRC mortars are maybe (too) successful in penetrating them as well.
  11. Great video. The snow made the tank look like a really nasty big bug, almost like a wild animal when reversing back into its den.
  12. But, imagine the fun if it were... we could have puffing trains moving about so that when the war got a bit boring...
  13. Yes, the phrase "Some places they could get though, a lot of places they couldn't." doesn't necessarily meant that there was no way thru, simply that the men refused to put their necks in a noose.
  14. We need to still see how things pan out in Lybia, Egypt etc. There is danger is assuming that "the people" want western style democratic secular government. We may end up finding that we have merely assisted the rise of extremist religious/Islamic regimes. As much as they were distasteful, The Shah, Saddam, Mubarek etc held these extremists in check,
  15. Wonder if they'll work with the latest patch. I had that weird problem with WHERE FARMERS DARE in ROAD TO DINAS campaign that may end up being a compatibility issue.
  16. And here is an xnt definition I read: "Gaming is decision-centric while simulating is process-centric. Most analysis efforts require both tools. When you want (to) examine a process, you simulate it. When you want to examine decision-making you game it."
  17. http://kotaku.com/5883105/forget-call-of-duty-and-battlefield-real-military-training-needs-a-different-kind-of-game?tag=michael-peck
  18. "I usually pair the Hedge segments with Mud tiles." This technique is VERY helpful in spotting gaps which often are hard to spot. Thanks...
  19. Interesting. Not sure if one can even play this mission if there is a problem since the display does not even show how many men there are. I hope this isn't the end of my (very long-running) ROAD TO DINAS campaign. I had to restart and play thru many scenarios of the campaign a couple of times before I got the hang of red vs red.
  20. Gotta go a lot slower. Stop and spend a lot longer just trying to spot for enemy contact. I am told it's also good to fire at enemy contacts even when unknown. In CMSF the western forces have all sorts of gadgets for seeing at night and spotting the enemy that the Russians in that era did not have.
  21. I completed scenario 10 and booted up scenario 11: WHERE FARMERS DARE. But the units show the wrong weapons: L94A1's; MINIMI's; C7A1's. In addition, the unit screen doesn't show all the men unless you put the mouse cursor over the screen. Otherwise, they are just invisible on the roster screen. I tried removing all my mods but that did not help. And in any case, even with the mods in the Z folder, when I open up the previous scenario, the inf display screen functions fine with the men having the correct weapons. Could the scenario itself have a bug?
  22. "Bush staked everything on a democratic transformation in the Middle East, and Obama has effectively endorsed that by staying in A'stan. It is stupid for the West to flinch now." The problem is that history may well view those actions as counterproductive. Saw part of a doc yesterday that said yes, actions in Iraq and (current actions in) A'stan may have made the US "Homeland" safer, but weakened the US as a nation - financially etc. That the Iraq Invasion for example saved the Taliban in A'stan and was the best recruiting tool for AlQ. Thought that was quite insightful.
  23. It's also the best way to understand the strengths and weaknesses of Red's equipment to improve one's Blue game. Am surprised that relatively few even play the Germans in CMBN.
