  1. I am again a victim of being efficient and fast. Now I have to d/l your new version. Just curious, what was changed?
  2. Yes, the latest 1.2 version does have the gray "?" symbol. The older version does not. However, the older version has 66 icons while the newer 1.2 version has only 65. So, you removed two of the sniper icons and changed the color of the defensive fortification. Am merely curious why. (I simply copied over the gray "?" symbol as well as the new color fortification symbol (renamed) to the older version so it now has 68 icons - was there anything else that changed so that I should use v1.2?)
  3. It's amazing what's in the manual p195: Troops moving through minefields have some ability to notice the mines without exploding them. This is much more likely when: .......................................... - The soldiers are crawling or walking (and to a lesser extent, “hunting”) .......................................... - The soldiers are engineers .......................................... - The soldiers are experienced .......................................... - The minefield has already been discovered (e.g. by setting off a mine) Engineers have the ability to mark known minefields. After a minefield is marked by an engineer unit, othr units may safely (but slowly) move through it without running the risk of setting off additional mines. See the Mark Mines command in the Command chapter for more details.
  4. Not sure what you mean. For ease of organization I have started sub Z folders eg: ZZ UNIFORMS; ZZ ICONS; etc. that way I can see and compare similar mods with less confusion. For an individual mod like one of Aris', assuming you have named/renamed the alternative graphics properly, they should all work within the same mod file. Note that a couple require special naming since it seems BF made an error in naming. The main time-waster is the .brz files... having to explode em before you can see what is in there to compare etc.
  5. "first ever variable-difficulty campaign devised" Yes, that does sound innovative and clever. Thanks... Will give it another go.
  6. Presumably, one can simply rename the battle-hardened german or us skins to a brit skin folder?
  7. It's the number of icons in the versions that confuses me. I would have thought that the latest version would have the most icons.
  8. "with a strong emphasis on realism." Exactly what we are saying... Artificially short time limits just to create a more difficult challenge is not the same as having the time to use tactics in a realistic manner. Scenarios should be winnable first time through by using good tactics. "You just have to find the way." Some of these scenarios remind me of CALL OF DUTY type games where you have to play em once or twice to learn their "tricks".
  9. I now have one version with 65 icons and another with 66 icons. The 65 icon version has a ? icon, and the 66 icon version doesn't. It's really confusing when different versions are posts so quickly. Would appreciate guidance as what are in the two versions and do we have to choose one, or...?
  10. Very useful - esp to see what has been modded by Aris and what is still to be done. Hey Aris where art thou? And BTW: I fear that you be burning out, but any chance you'll do the base game guns that were never modded - now we're seeing maps and scenarios large enuff for the German 76mm and 88mm guns.
  11. "I don't mind spending 20 minutes winkling out a sniper -- that's interesting to me." I mostly agree with that. Which is why it's odd that so many scenarios and campaigns feature such tight time limits. A good scenario contains a collection of such mini-engagements that make up a larger scenario.
  12. "a competent attacker can always/mostly win" Ah, that where I have been going wrong...
  13. I have avoided wireless mice and keyboards as I hate having to pay extra and store extra batteries. Also, there is a latency problem - altho' not an issue for CM.
  14. I find it hard to complete missions in the allotted time even in WEGO. For some reason this has gotten worse in CW than with US forces, even though the Brits were famous for enhanced caution as they simply could not afford to lose men the way the US could. Also, the Brits relied on heavy arty extensively. This has not been represented as much as I was expecting in CW - making CW imo hard to win than playing the better-supplied US. Am enjoying the German campaign much more as they seem to be about the same difficulty as the base game.
  15. Yeah, but if only the best players, beta testers and designers can play these scenarios satisfactorily, where does that leave us regular folks looking for some light entertainment after a hard day's slog. AFAIK this is still supposed to be primarily an entertainment product not a training sim (and while I could understand that motivation for CMSF, it doesn't seem that relevant for a WW2 game)..
  16. While I'm not a fan of Pacific War (and the TV series did a good job illustrating why) it is pretty neat what you are doing. And of course chaps with British accents are the appropriate "villains de jour" so no problem there. I just think we need your superb talents more in CMSF, CMA and CMSF.
  17. Having had my family virtually wiped out by WW2 by those ^%$^German Fascists, then using your logic I suppose I can appeal for people to no longer play WW2 games? 20-30 MILLION died in WW2, and your PC concern is what exactly?
  18. If you installed to the default directory, you may find saved files under AppData/Local/Virtual Store (at least in Win 7 that's what happens). I recommend installing to a C:/SIMS/ folder as that makes things save in the correct folders.
  19. akd: Is that true for individual sounds selected indiviidually via Rezexplode, or only for the .brz file.
  20. I like Logitech G5 - lasted me a few years. Got a G500 that broke after a couple weeks. Just got a replacement G500, so we'll see. Trackballs seem to be going out of favor...
