  1. Hunt speed = Move speed. Hmm... Thought Hunt would be slower as one is being more careful. Not sure why Hunt is so much more tiring than Move (or even Quick - given the distance traveled).
  2. There was a huge comprehensive mod set for CMSF called "Syrope" that changed the terrain and look of CMSF to a European look IIRC including snow. Included a lot of uniform and vehicle mods. Actually, here you go: http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=fileinfo&id=113
  3. 'Course one should read the manual. It's remembering all the friggin details that's the problem. Add in a few other games that may have similar features and that compounds it. That's why forums like this are so useful. You can get quick answers from monomaniac Asperger Grogs who have no other life than reading manuals.
  4. Friggin BABY! There's a divide line somewhere (currently) around 40-45. I was one of the first to get a computer back in the late 80's and was considered "bleeding edge" when I wuz your age, mate. I know you laugh at that and don't believe me. But you just wait till the next gen tech comes out and you start struggling to keep up. Then you can make posts like that.
  5. For those unable to use Google: "hollow charge: A shaped charge producing a deep cylindrical hole of relatively small diameter in the direction of its axis of rotation." "A shaped charge is an explosive charge shaped to focus the effect of the explosive's energy. Various types are used to cut and form metal, initiate nuclear weapons, penetrate armor, and "complete" wells in the oil and gas industry. A shaped charge is a concave metal hemisphere or cone (known as a liner) backed by a high explosive, all in a steel or aluminum casing. When the high explosive is detonated, the metal liner is compressed and squeezed forward, forming a jet whose tip may travel as fast as 10 kilometers per second."
  6. Yes HUNT really should result in more care and fewer casualties. Something for BF to look at...
  7. parts have "unfortunate tendency to fall off" - yup that reminds me of my Brit cars.
  8. If one has read all the manuals from CMBO days, how many manuals is that? It's normal to have forgotten a whole lot and anyway, this is supposed to be an entertaining leisure activity, not a friggin' academic PhD course. It would be wonderful if the games all had the same manual, but there ya go...
  9. In CM1 - yeah... Never been possible to clear in CM2. I still like CM1 as a game. Can do things that are more fun even if not as realistic as CM2.
  10. You talking to me...(?) Not sure I have Hammertime Campaign. But sure, I'll try anything.
  11. Well you intrigue me. Can you give examples of "unexpected characteristics" or "unique approach" etc? I recall that Brit car engineering like Rolls was always highly touted, but only seemed to be practical if you had a personal mechanic on staff. I had a Jag and I figured there was a 10% chance every time I drove it that I would have to fiddle with the twin Strombergs at some point. Had to keep a toolkit in the trunk.
  12. Wonderful result. I have yet to play a scenario with flail tanks.
  13. "You think I should change points like 1-3 tanks = win battle?" In this particular example, yes. Certainly US and UK media would report a disaster if 3 Abrams or Challengers were killed in one minor battle. (That would also mean quite a few troops/crew KIA or WIA as well.) It's appreciated that when the AI controls Blue, its AFV's may be much easier to kill. But, as a scenario designer that's a design challenge you need to address. (When a human plays Blue in this theatre, he needs to be "encouraged" by severe penalties to only accept minimal casualties (if any) in order to achieve a win.) Very low tolerance for casualties is the way the West tries to fight.
  14. I can only surmise that these "shooting star" visitors want the game to be more like an FPS(?). I can't think of any other similar game that is as realistic, so what are they comparing CM to?
  15. Nice to see the stats. Did you experiment with mine-clearing tanks btw? The problem with mines in scenarios is that one usually does not have enough time to detect them other than seeing someone getting blown up first. It has been suggested to designers that all minefields should be surrounded by barbed wire to show the player where they need to use engineers to clear (or avoid). The whole point of minefields in RL was to delay or channel enemy, so indicating where there is a minefield (even if it's a dummy!) is quite realistic. Of course if one really wants to ambush an enemy, then keeping the location secret is fine. But, assuming you want to let the enemy use engineers to mark em, one need to allow enuff time in the scenario as it is a slow process.
  16. Not sure that I kept v1 files if you sent me updated versions. Don't have anything on my laptop while am traveling. Send me PM to remind me to check my main systems in a week or so. Maybe I can help you write the briefings - I used to do a lot of professional writing both fiction and tech docs. Happy to test out anything you have. Your earlier effort was already much better than most.
  17. Holding ground (which may be worthless in the desert) vs causing casualties is a strategy decision. I get the impression that (other than Mosul for example) uncon forces have learned the value of causing casualties (like the Leopards) that get massive TV exposure that lower the morale of western populations. The Russians have an advantage here in that they always seem willing to take casualties and since they emphasize quantity over quality, losing stuff is less upsetting.
  18. +1 on those comments. Playing CMSF makes one a better WW2 player as one has gotten more sensitized to friendly losses. CMSF definitely helped me be a better CM1 player in the days when there were many CM1 tournaments available.
  19. "You can do a reasonable job of modeling the 'head-choppers' without mods, but why would anyone want to play as that filth?" I get that. But, CM2 is a simulation - so my thought is that it would be interesting to see what the Red capabilities may be, if only to play Blue better. That's why I continue to be amazed that we haven't seen any scenario on Mosul for example. I loved Zawiya Uprising.
  20. What has been improved to make the SA80 "a lot better"? (I keep thinking that designing assault rifles (or any gun) would be a mature science by now and that we' would have learned to optimize.)
  21. What's an online document? You youngsters make us oldster laugh with your "it's so easy" BS. I even got rid of my smart phone cos I didn't want to become like the wankers walking around with their heads down thumbing away like demented gerbils. And don't me started on the morons walking around with earbuds who I regularly almost run down on the street cos they are so oblivious to traffic.
  22. "Sadly I lost the lot when the drive went down.....The files I'd copied were corrupt." Are any of the files you sent me of use to you? I'll be back with my main CM machines in a week so could send files back to you if useful.
  23. How come you are still a "Junior Member"? You must have posted a lot by now...
