  1. In the game, it does not appear as if scouts (not sure about snipers) have any special training that makes them better as scouts. Generally it's best to have Crack scout and sniper teams for that reason. They are quite good. Otherwise, the lesson that CM teaches us is that scouts tend to be expendable who find the enemy by getting shot.
  2. My sense is that experienced players rarely, if ever, use the "Hull Down" command as it is uncertain in what direction your AFV will be hull-down to. I find the best method is to use several waypoints around the location you want the tank to stop and examine the TARGET line from each waypoint to the target (direction) you want the tank to be facing. The end of the target line will tell you either no hulldown at all, or "PARTIAL HULLDOWN" or "HULLDOWN". It becomes 2nd nature with practice... Note that for some reason it is often impossible to get hulldown as you can move the AFV a meter and the target iine will go from "No Target" to "Partial Hulldown" with no "Hulldown" at all. Obviously, vehicles are higher than the surrounding ground. Your tank may have no target to the ground at a distant location. But, if another vehicle is that that same location, it would be seen by your tank as it is higher than the ground. In order to see if your tank will see an enemy tank at a location, you should place your tank's waypoint at the potential enemy target location and then click on that waypoint and see if one can "see"/get a target on your own tank. "If another unit can see your unit, your unit should be able to see that distant unit." Hope that helps.
  3. You should look at Koh's Crete and NA mod sets. He's done a fabulous job creating those for us. BF has shown little interest.
  4. Not really - I suppose the units could be out of ammo - and have to reach supply dumps to acquire...
  5. Am still playing thru Paper Tiger's CMSF2 "Gung Ho!" Yes, I have to d/l Korea (and redownload all your other amazing offerings).
  6. I do probably have any and all Arabic (plus Farsi/Afghan) mod voices for CMSF1 and 2. Eg: Mord's Allah's Army v 2.0; Arabic Casualty screams; HQS 5.0 Syrian Arab Armed Forces (plus Mujahideen); Taliban v2; Arabic BG sounds... I can load to your dropbox if you want any.
  7. Big different when firing single shots vs auto. Vaguely remember the Bren being successfully used as a sniper gun. If you're familiar with the film Siege of Jadotville you will remember a scene in which the Irish company's sniper takes on a long range shot… with a Bren. The sniper exchanges his scoped Rifle No. 4(T) for a Bren and single loads a round with the magazine removed. 8. Phil, Am pretty certain you know all this. But, just in case... You find RezExplode in the main game folder. under "Mod Tools". You put the .brz folder you want to open in the "INPUT" folder and activate "REZEXPLODE.EXE". The exploded folder files appear in the EXPLODED folder.
  9. Yes, make an exception. Had same problems with AVG years ago and had to make exceptions for all CM games.
  10. The thing is Cap we hopefully all agree with you that it is a terrible thing that the rule of law is no longer working. However, would you not consider that we have to deal with the world the way it is... not the way we would wish it to be. From a military, economic and social POV, it seems essential to destroy Hamas by any means necessary, in the same ruthless way we dealt with the Nazis and the Japanese. Anything less than that is merely delaying/prolonging an even greater humanitarian disaster. After that, one can only hope there will be a form of "Marshall Plan" that will put Gaza back on the road to some sort of good life for its people - just like we did for Germany and Japan. And again, hopefully we can get the Arab nations to fund that... instead of using the Palestinian-Israeli conflict for their own internal political machinations. One has to remember that many/all the Arab/Muslim nations are essentially repressive dictatorships focused on suppressing their own powder kegs of internal religious conflict.
  11. Well, how did we react after the 9/11 bombings? How many Iraqi kids died when Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11? What about the murder of thousands of Iraq's fleeing from Kuwait on the road of death in Iraq War 1? Unless one has lost family in horrific deliberate murders committed by folks like Hamas, it's not our place to judge the furious response. Or... we have to prosecute for war crimes all the folks behind both Iraq Wars. And we can more easily get ahold of those folks.
  12. Am not familiar with the design mechanics, but I thought one could have "action areas" where if a unit reaches/enters it, then an AI plan is executed. That would give the illusion of the AI oppo reacting intelligently.
  13. Totally agree with those comments. Regrettably some of us have a schedule that is erratic so while one may have a couple weeks to play full -time, then it may be necessary to travel with no game system or internet for weeks. For that reason, I have sadly been having to avoid tournies.
  14. That will depend on the orientation of the wall on the map. The risk is that the unit will use up a charge and NOT breach the desired wall. It can work, but...
  15. I find what works well is to order a BLAST plus an immediate FAST move back the way the breaching team entered. The explosion creates smoke and shock that gives the breach team a few seconds before they would be targeted by any enemy.
  16. Sounds like that was more 1938 than after France fell: "In the aftermath of the Munich Agreement, Hitler and French Prime Minister Édouard Daladier in December 1938 made an agreement that officially declared that Germany was relinquishing its previous territorial claims on Alsace-Lorraine in the interest of maintaining peaceful relations between France and Germany and both pledged to be involved in mutual consultation on matters involving the interests of both countries.[86] However at the same time Hitler in private advised the High Command of the Wehrmacht to prepare operational plans for a joint German–Italian war against France.[86]"
  17. The first time I played M1 I used up almost all the arty ammo not realizing that one gets no ammo resupply for M2 and lack of arty hurt badly in M2. I replayed, with the exact same strategy for the units, but was much more economical with arty... so that M2 became much easier.
  18. You beat me to it, but yes, I was going to point out that the seeds of WW2 were sown by the results of WW1... ie the growth of massive German resentment and anger that gave the Nazis their momentum. One could argue that the seeds of Hamas extremism were similarly sown. However, 1) the Arab nations have done very little to help the situation over the past decades. Even now they don't want Palestinians in their territory as it suits them politically and religiously to keep the situation bubbling. 2) Regardless of one's grievance, burning people alive, raping and dismembering people, mass killing them in gas ovens etc. is not an acceptable reaction.
  19. LOL.... Some of us do care "why"? Could never follow orders blindly.
  20. I found that arty and air deployment is the critical aspect for winning a Total Vict. How much arty did you save for Mission 2 btw?
  21. Re strange phenomena: I find the drone useless (at least in M2). I thought maybe it has not got IR so no good at night. But, have now had 30 minutes of daylight and it still cannot spot anything! (By comparison, the Crack scouts spot enemy units very easily.) Anyone having good experiences with the drone? In addition, snipers with rifles using 7.62mm also carry 50 cal. Humvees that seem to have plenty of 50 cal according to the left box, but are out of ammo according to the right box. Am starting to wonder if some update created more bugs/problems in CMSF2. And of course the biggy (for the 16 years of CM2) is that ATGM vehicles still do not have their telescopic launchers modeled so that in order to fire they have to expose the top of the vehicle which means they are easier to spot and kill and therefore cannot be used as in RL. Loving the campaign however. Unfortunately have to travel over the Xmas season so can't move on to M3 until next week. Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to all!
  22. With offboard arty and air, there is no "chain of command" as far as I can detect. The challenge is that all the support units I have (arty and air) have the same bright green C2 links to the spotters. So, why the big difference in call times? It also does not appear to matter if it is a Bn, CO, a Co CO, or a regular HQ that is calling. (Dedicated FO's, Fire Control Teams (FCT's), FIST's etc. are usually faster to call of course.)
