  1. Exposure Pavement: 100% Grass: 95% Light Forest: 90% Light Forest with 2 Trees (Tree A in editor): 60% Note that these values reflect cover from bullets (specifically 7.92mm x 57mm Mauser from a MG42, if you were wondering) and may not necessarily be accurate against explosive ordnance. I'll test more tomorrow, time permitting.
  2. You could definitely create a table such as the one Markshot posted, and in fact I have been intending to do just that but haven't got around to it yet. For example, heavy rocks terrain increases cover by about 40% over pavement (this is from my memory of a test I did over a year ago so don't take that number as the word of god or anything). This isn't particularly difficult to test. Maybe I'll start on it tonight. It really needs to be done to double check the values. It would also be interesting to compare to CMx1.
  3. At the risk of pointing out the obvious, for people with a particular axe to grind this forum is a very convenient place to grind it. As for the other off-topic topic: From what I have been told, more now than they used to, courtesy of the Army Rangers. As you rightly point out, they are commandos, not light infantry. During Redwings the mostly Marine QRF was kept waiting on the tarmac for several hours while JSOC rounded up enough SEALs to replace the Marines under the tragically mistaken notion that only the SEALs were up to the task (a pervasive attitude without which there would never have been a recon team to rescue since the Marines were opposed to that aspect of the operation but were overruled by JSOC).
  4. As for house rules, I understand the appeal of limiting them to a bare minimum. I have cut down on mine from a few years ago. But if the only one you ever use is the pre-planned bombardment rule you are risking some highly unrealistic and very un-fun battles. To each their own.
  5. Nope, realism. While spotting and shooting down mico UAVs is not trivial it is not impossible in real life. They fly only a few hundred feet off the ground. Their present invulnerability to US forces is because of game engine limitations.
  6. I pair max duration with 1-tube harassment fires. That way you only get one or two more rounds after the cease fire call. +1 to the numbers instead of text idea.
  7. Looks like it is simply increasing the contrast. I'd rather change the brightness and saturation.
  8. Intreging. I will definitely give this a try since I am not a fan of the desaturated color palate used in the post-Normandy games.
  9. The numbers in his example don't matter. What matters is the all around increased control and flexibility of QB force sizes.
  10. I am sure it is and I have asked for it several times and will continue to ask for it. I don't know what Kettler is going on about. You can already change the force ratios via the attacker's Force Adjustment so that isn't an issue. I also doubt that it would require much coding. It's not a new feature.
  11. Did you use any mines? I consider anti-tank mines an essential part of any defense.
  12. This would be tough to deal with on a map this size. My own painful experience has been that US thermals will usually spot anything hiding in even heavy forest under 200 meters, and quickly. Forest terrain is therefor nearly useless for RPG ambushes. In fact I don't consider infantry in forests safe from detection unless they are at least 600 meters away.
  13. QBs have a pool of 1000 victory points that are divied up between terrain objective and casualties. Terrain/Casualties ME: 400/600 pts Probe: 500/500 pts Attack: 650/350 pts Assault: 750/250 pts The points ratios are 1.84 to 1 for assault, 1.65 to 1 for attack and 1.49 to 1 for probe.
  14. For stabilized platforms such as tank cannon (not moving) that is where the fire goes, at least until dispersion becomes significant at very long ranges. Small arms fire has more dispersion at much shorter ranges as you would expect. Tracers are literal in CMx2, but again I don't recall what area fire dispersion was like in CMx1. Whatever it is in CMx2 I doubt it is a bug.
  15. I was thinking mostly of tanks when I made my comments regarding Arena. It does make more sense on BMP-3s since they are more likely to get in close with US infantry where AT4s and 40mm HEDP becomes a concern. Having said that, I would estimate 90% of my vehicles loses are to Abrams or Javelin.
  16. I don't recall how diffuse area fire was in CMx1 but in CMx2 it is aimed at a 8m x 8m area (one action spot).
  17. I think you and Rinaldi are missing the fact that I was merely quoting Jason's sig line as a means of explaining why his posts are the way they are. I was not defending it.
  18. "A certain amount of dogmatism and pigheadedness is necessary in science."
  19. Yep. You've probably read the same reports I have. Hodges acknowledged that US troops are learning from Ukrainians about Russia's jamming capability, its ranges, types and the ways it has been employed. He has previously described the quality and sophistication of Russian electronic warfare as "eye-watering."... ..."Our biggest problem is we have not fought in a comms-degraded environment for decades, so we don't know how to do it," Buckhout said. "We lack not only tactics, techniques and procedures but the training to fight in a comms-degraded environment."... ...The US, Buckhout said, lacks a significant electronic attack capability. "We have great signals intelligence, and we can listen all day long, but we can't shut them down one-tenth to the degree they can us," she said. "We are very unprotected from their attacks on our network." http://www.defensenews.com/story/defense/policy-budget/warfare/2015/08/02/us-army-ukraine-russia-electronic-warfare/30913397/
  20. True. But I was recently told there is no such thing as abuse of area fire
  21. LOL, this is one of the more unusual AARs I've seen. I like it.
  22. Then for your sake I hope Sublime isn't playing by your rules. The Russians have a drone that in the game the US cannot detect. I am also assuming he did not plaster your setup zone with artillery on the first turn.
  23. On the contrary, it makes things far more expensive I allow Russians to have Arena in my house rules but I don't use them myself. Because of Javelin. It is much more useful against Ukraine.
