An astounding plan for Battlefront

Just buy CMAK. Seriously. CMBN-like armor and penetration values in a CMx1 engine. I think there is even a mod that changes the terrain to look like NW Europe. You do miss a few unit types like King Tigers, but most of what you want is there. -

I recall a post Steve made where he said Charles opened up the CMBB code to help with the CMBB Campaigns project only to realize he didn't remember how the game worked anymore. -

Keep in mind that the spotting ability of tanks directly correlates to their Experience. Hence my sig. -

I assume by "CM1" you are referring specifically to CMBO? BFC would not even back port changes from CMBB and CMAK to CMBO. And believe me they were asked to repeatedly. But as I said, I think there is little difference between CMBN and CMAK with regards to armor. -
LOL, Yep. ...

Hmm. With regard to anti-armor weapons, I have seen no major differences between CMBN and the later CMx1 games (the effectiveness of the German 75mm vs Sherman was tweaked in CMAK to where it's about the same as in CMBN). The only major change in weapons effects is in the effect of HE on infantry, particularly small caliber HE. In this instance I am not at all convinced CMBN is the more accurate representation of reality. In fact, I strongly suspect it is not. Machine guns also seem to be a little less effective in CMBN, but they are getting a little buff so we will see. -

1. Easier 2. Harder 3. Easier -
The thing of it is, the rarity modifier is a multiple applied to the base price. But because the base price is absurdly small you can still buy quite a few of them. It doesn't really matter. They are almost universally banned from QBs and BFC doesn't care enough about QBs to change it. But I see no reason why they can't be left in the game for scenario makers to play with if they want.

BFC: the Toyota of wargaming LOL It's not a total train wreck, just a few freight cars derailed I just fired up the Xbox and started a new game of Civ IV while I wait.

Fox holes and Trenches
Vanir Ausf B replied to Georgie's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I'm more interesting in their functionality than their appearance. I'm using a mod that improves how foxholes look. If you mean that you hope they will be real 3D terrain features that seems unlikely to happen because of the fog of war issue. -
Picking units in a QB

There were more point penalties for straying from official TO&E in CMx1 than in CMBN. -
That old color scheme was unforgettable.

Picking units in a QB
Vanir Ausf B replied to pktaskess's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I feel the opposite is true. The new system is certainly more flexible, but it also allows a lot more "gaminess" and ahistorical formations. In CMx1 you could not edit formations. But the larger the formation you bought, the bigger the per-unit discount. So if for example if you bought a full PzGrenadier battalion each infantry squad may cost 23 pts. But say you don't want all those undermodeled machine guns in the heavy weapons company. The only way to get rid of them was buy the companies individually. But then the cost of each squad goes up to 27 each. In CMx2 once you buy your battalion you can edit out as many units as you want and the per unit cost of what is left remains the same, so there is no real incentive to stick with the official TOE. Plus you can min/max the stats of each individual unit, while in CMx1 you could only select a certain range of stats and they were randomly determined within that range. You can do that in CMx2 also, but there is nothing stopping you from editing the results. -
You are mistaken, Michael. Granted, it was only the demo. But saying you are wrong is too much fun to pass up.

Tanks Firing on the Move. WTF?
Vanir Ausf B replied to TheBlackHand's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Tanks firing on the move is not an abstraction. They really are firing on the move. It's just a limitation of the AI programing. It was the same in CMx1. -
