  1. The CMBN/CW vehicle and soldier textures had to be modified or partially redone for 2.0. Artwork is expensive to produce. It is usually the most expensive part of making a game. The idea that the 2.0 upgrade was effortless for them to produce is not true. BFC has no obligation to give it away for free.
  2. A thumb drive would work just as well and cost less.
  3. Keep in mind that one of the issues that has been brought up -- earlier in this thread IIRC -- is that bullets whizzing past soldiers don't cause suppression. Pixeltruppen are only aware of bullets that impact some object near them.* Given that departure from reality in the model it seems to me that it may be necessary to compensate by deliberately over-modeling some other aspect of machine gun performance, such as accuracy. Certainly, making machine gunners in the game purposely fire less accurately at infantry than at other types of targets seems counter-productive. * I have not personally tested this, but other posters have mentioned it.
  4. They have a higher rate of fire. I don't know if there are any other effects.
  5. Just do what I did and put him on your ignore list. The temptation to point out that his BS is BS is lessened when you can't see it. And not having to scroll past his massive posts will save wear and tear on your scroll wheel finger.
  6. Yet in the game the Panther's cross country mobility is about the same or slightly worse than the Sherman.
  7. Unfortunate. It also looks like the Lynx is still inexplicably missing from QBs. And no mention of a fix for bugged Tiger I turret. On the positive side it looks like they may have finally got the Panther shot trap working properly. I had about given up on that one.
  8. I have the exact opposite view. Tests I did in the mortar effectiveness thread showed casualties nearly an order of magnitude greater than what would be expected. Related to that, small to medium caliber direct fire HE is so lethal in the game that I have realized there is no need for 105mm assault guns. In reality these weapons were widely praised for their usefulness.
  9. This is true, but it's more of a map size issue than a force size issue. I don't have any trouble commanding battalion + sized forces in CMBN. Finding quality maps of a sufficient size is more challenging.
  10. Preorders for CMBN:CW began on January 18th and the module shipped on March 5th.
  11. Was any consensus ever achieved regarding machine guns in CM deliberately spraying around infantry instead of aiming at them, as demonstrated in the OP?
  12. "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." -- Carl Sagan "The weight of evidence for an extraordinary claim must be proportional to its strangeness." -- Pierre-Simon Laplace Googled-up internet links to questionable sources and references to unnamed secret informants don't cut it. They just make you look crazy. That is why no one around here believes a word you say about anything anymore. And why I'm probably going to put you on my ignore list as soon as I'm done with this thread.
  13. You have got to be the most gullible person I have ever come across. You do realize this is some kind of joke, right? If you follow the link the entry used as a source it says this: You gotta love the description of this fearsome weapon: "The weapon was magazine fed and used pyrotechnic flashbulb technology to project its beam. Another example was a Laser revolver." A laser revolver. So I guess those Cosmonaughts got 6 shots before they had to load more lazer beams. "Flashbulb technology" LOL, sounds lethal! "The preliminary designs of a small power solid state and chemical laser weapon system that can be eventually mass produced." This appears to be a development contract, not a manufacturing contract. And it's from 2003, not the 1980s. The fact that you believe it is evidence enough for me that it isn't true.
  14. If Kettler is claiming that soldiers were running around in 1989 with man-portable lasers powerful enough to destroy objects he is peddling some serious bull****. Such weapons are still in the concept stage today. http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2007/04/plasma_pulse_la/
  15. Except that they are doing Bagration to Berlin, as per my post on the previous page.
  16. Um, no. The entire East front will not be one game + modules. It will be at at least 3 and possibly 4 games + modules.
  17. http://www.wargamer.com/article/3215/community-interview-combat-mission-fortress-italy
  18. I believe the plan is for the subsequent modules to take the Bagration game to the end of the war.
  19. There is presumably a doorway allowing entrance to the balcony. How hard would it be to leave the door open?
  20. Clearly not every soldier wants the street, either in the real world or the game. I think we would all like to see the ability to use building corners as cover implemented. It's needed for more than just AT rocket use. But that is likely to be a significant undertaking to get the correct TacAI routines and soldier animations. Allowing or disallowing any weapon to be fired from buildings is probably just a matter of setting a flag for that particular weapon and would be a relatively trivial change.
  21. http://oai.dtic.mil/oai/oai?verb=getRecord&metadataPrefix=html&identifier=ADA244127 That last part is key. No matter how risky shooting from buildings may or may not have been, if the alternative was running out into the middle of the street and engaging in a high noon showdown with a Tiger tank and perhaps accompanying infantry I think I would take my chances from the building, no matter what the training manual says about room size.
  22. I moved the FO up so he had LOS. All 3 mortars came in off target again so it seems to be the TRP. I have sent the files to a beta tester.
