  1. Chiming in, a bit late: the auto force select is good...for battles against the AI. It keeps you guessing. But for your own (or human opponent's) forces, human select is the way to go. Use the "suggest" to play around, but choosing your force is half the game.
  2. Your initial assumption is flawed. Yes, this very well could be the AMMUNITION carried by these men. However, as you stated, they were expected to survive and fight for DAYS while they were cut off behind enemy lines. Therefore, the ammo had to share the weight allowance with, off the top of my head: main parachute, spare parachute, food, water, comm gear, other mission odds and ends. The parachutes were bulky and heavy. I don't know how much water they carried into battle. Likewise, food. This need to carry every item needed for several days is a heavier burden than a unit going forward to assault an objective. Ken
  3. How far away from the trees was the HQ? Were there LOS obscurations? Have a savegame?
  4. Caveat: I have not yet looked at the turns you posted. As mentioned, there is a known issue with crossing rubled walls with halftracks. If one of the halftracks has that problem and it is the first one in the "stack", you could've had a cascading delay problem. Bazooka team, as mentioned, select the team and check to see what they can see/spot. If they don't see the tank, you've got to manuever them to give them the opportunity to acquire the tank. Finally, if you've got a reinforced battalion in combat and the game is only 45 minutes long, you may want to increase the time limit. That many units takes time to get into the fight. Ken
  5. Track-edge extensions: Looks to me like the StG was operating in cold weather when they lost it.
  6. (Wow, I'm not sure where to post this, but the oddest thing just occurred. My bank notified me that I just received $55 from an unspecified online transaction. I thought, "Hey! This is my lucky day!" But then it got better! Suddenly, not only did I have an extra $55, but then I noticed that I had an EXTRA copy of CMBN appear on my hard-drive! WOOT! Should I post this in tech support?) * * * * * Oh, come on, now. That was funny. I'm totally kidding on ALL the above. My sincerest hope that Spec124 gets his download resolved as soon as possible. Good luck and enjoy! Ken
  7. 76mm had SERIOUS issues with muzzle blast. That was part of the armored commanders' concerns. They went so far as to consider how to implement paired shooting, where an offset tank offers corrections to the tank which just fired. That was needed because the tank that just fired couldn't see beyond the cloud of smoke and dust to "sense" the shot.
  8. Wait a sec, are you guys saying you DON'T like these features? The more detailed your descriptions are, like Rokko's tree thread he linked to, the more likely it can be pinned down. Ken
  9. Hmmm, wouldn't you only need to make the EDGE cobbles square? (I don't know if all the cobblestones are repetitive, or if they are handcrafted for every stone in an 8x8 meter square.) If only the edge cobblestones can be made square, then any cobblestone tile could be juxtaposed next to any other one. Ken
  10. Adding on to what ian.leslie just posted: you need to manually transfer the email file that you receive (via email attachment, dropbox, or any other file transfer method), and move it into the folder ian.leslie mentioned. All the pbem files are at the end of your "saved games" list, alphabetically ordered, but after all the other saved games.
  11. Has there been thought given to allowing pre-ordering of the manual in order to assess the numbers that may be sold?
  12. I used to play ASL, but not often. Now, with CMxx and everything else going on in life (tempo seems to've increased), I play CM and just collect ASL.
  13. ^^^ That is exactly what I think is the issue, as well. Let us know.
  14. Did Lee end the Civil War when his plans for one battle, wrapped around cigars, were found? No! Consider this a bit of, um, operational intel... Roll on!
  15. Interesting. I've paid attention to the end of game stats and have not noticed this. It may exist: I have never seen it.
  16. With specs like that you'd do your a computer a disservice not to buy both! Then ypu'd do us a disservice if you didn't post back here with your impressions. Otherwise get CMBN.
  17. Guys, the data - backed by testing - is great. Thank you.
  18. If the enemy tank had the tank commander exposed, the machinegun fire would have had a chance to kill him. Regardless of shooting, reversing away from a deadly threat makes sense. The aggressiveness of the 250/3 may depend on the morale and experience. There are far too many variables to say with exactitude which behavior is right and which is wrong.
  19. True: my parenthetical comment referred to M1 tanks. Part of US doctrine is to ensure air superiority. Regarding Tigers and Shermans: who won in the end?
  20. Now you know why the allies had "Tiger fright". (BTW, it took for WWII tankers to get to the top of the army command to get that lesson fixed: Creighton Abrams and the M1 tank. Great armor, great gun sure beats hoards of cheap tanks. Usually.)
