  1. No way. "Dad's Army" = best depiction of a military unit in wartime ever. "THEY DON'T LIKE IT UP 'EM"!
  2. So, having played around with Strykers for a while, how would you change things in the SBCT concept? The C&C seems to work very well, try playing in elite with a BTR company for comparison! For me – equip one vehicle (the one the MMG’s ride in) per platoon with a 25-30mm cannon for platoon fire support. Just the one, because the larger Stryker squads do seem more useful than the Bradley equivalents. Maybe make all the other vehicles AGL equipped – or a 50/50 mix of 50cal and 40mm equipped trucks. Dismounted squads own enemy armour with the Javelin, what they need is heavy weapons stuff to make squelchies keep their heads down MGS – hmm. Given the Ultimate Fighting Power that is the Javelin (at least in v1.00-1.03) who needs it? Or license something like the RPG29 for a Son Of ONTOS. It is a direct fire HE chucker, so 105mm gun seems high velocity overkill and needlessly complicates the supply chain/ adds weight. What do the USMC use for this role? Stryker AT trucks are fine. (RPG29 is a feersum thing indeed, I’ve lost M1’s to it, well, and my stupidity)
  3. Well, on Veteran I just used strykers as simply as possible - driving slowly towards the destination with some overwatch, plastering suspect locations with area fire. Then only dismount for MOUT. Seemed to work very well, enemy units got spotted easily and surpressed fast Then moved to Elite, and the same tactic in the same scenario (al amanah?) and ended up with 7 dead strykers very fast. The difference in spotting & C&C information sharing between the two modes makes a huge difference it seems. Oh well, back to the drawing board
  4. Ditch between runways will be deliberate for drainage purposes, not an engineering folly...
  5. Hmm, that article to me was more about replacing Humvee's fast, than Stryker brigade. Basically saying that getting M113's would be faster way of getting people behind armour in Iraq. Must admit, my reading was that the price didn't include all the gizmo's, but his thesis is that what is needed in Iraq isn't the bells and whistles of a stryker brigade, but an APC that is more survivable than a humvee. Fair enough, but a different argument.
  6. Aren't the French moving to wheeled APC too? Wheels vs tracks, I can see for a APC wheels make more sense, for an IFV probably tracks.
  7. There's one 51mm per platoon, then 82mm at the bn level. Range is about 700-750m. ISTR that it was meant to be made obsolete by 40mm rifle grenades at the section level - but will now be kept, though likely standardised to 60mm. Like it's WW2 version, it isn't the HE that is useful, but the illumination and smoke. Especially in a multi-national operating theatre like Afganistan, it has been a force multiplier/ communication tool for light troops. E.g. "See where the red smoke is? Please blow the crap out of it"
  8. Another not yet. Freezes up too much now in v1.02 for me.
  9. Nuh uh. I want a Indo-Pak mod. Chawinda, Assal Uttar! Woot! Centurians vs Pattons!
  10. I request that when a VBIED attack succeeds, we get a hot pr0n cutscene of 72 virgins. Preferably female.
  11. Like the concept - agree that red v red is where the most interest is for me. I am thinking of a red v red "Qat Fight" - Somali warlords turf battle. Technical-tastic!
  12. I helped free a county from a foreign invasion and give it a good shot at a properous and democratic future. But I haven't written a manual so you win, I guess. </font>
  13. Well, I am waiting for the patch before playing again. Main thing I have learnt about Strykers: WTF haven't they all got 40mm AGL? That thing is nasty...
  14. Syrian Special Forces are kewl. Not only do they have porn taches, they have the RPG29. OK, you only get one shot off, two if you are lucky, but it is like a man portable MGS gun. Their snipers aren't bad either. For the sections, using "hunt" to get into position. OK, they only get to ride in open top GAZ jeeps, but given that the BTR offers very little more protection, and the experience levels/ C&C of Syrians mean that BMP2's often lose badly to Bradleys or 40mm equiped Strykers, being forced to dismount early is no bad thing. BTR's are scary for the user!
  15. 2.5 - a four for the subject, a one for the game (mechanics, concepts, all a big step forward from cm1). Modern warfare, so far, doesn't grab me like WW2 did.
  16. Being Mr Picky, Noticed that some of the briefings have incorrect Islamic exhortations. Allah is not PBUH (peace be upon him) that only refers to Mohammad. Allah is normally followed by SWT (Subhanahu wa ta'ala) which translates as "glorify and exalt him" And it is Allahu Akbar..., not Alu Akbar. La ilaha illallah is another good one to use (there is no god but God) In fundamentalist (salafi) Islam, musical instruments are forbidden, but music is not, acapella is allowed. The background music should be adjusted accordingly (and probably to rap or heavy metal for the Americans) Anyway, please continue as you were...
  17. Meh, maybe I am just a dyed in the wool Old Skool WW2 player, but playing around with QB vs the AI, finding red vs red or red vs blue the most enjoyable. Playing blue, find myself standing off most of the time, taking advantage of better C&C and spotting, only debussing for MOUT or trench clearing. And cursing who-ever decided to put 50 cal, rather than the awesome 40mm grenade launcher, on most Strykers...! With the reds, reminds me of playing green troops in CM1. Plus just feel bad losing more M1's in 30 minutes than the US did in GF1 and 2! At least with the reds you can blame your tools....
  18. This is the running nicely thread, please go to the completely unplayable thread, you are ruining our fun. </font>
