  1. Just got my first game in with the mod, looks great. (Even though the only tech I got was level 1 jets despite spending about 2k on it ) I hope you release the other (non-surrendering) French mod soon. While I agree that WWII wasn't exactly their "moment in the sun" I think it's a bit much. Other than that I love it though.
  2. "Nowwwwww..... RUN TO THE FORUM AND THE PRODUCT NEWS LOOK!!!!!! "There's nothing new here..... "I can't live through each slow century of this waiting." Props to you, Wolfpack, for making my day with that most obscure of references. </font>
  3. Psssst....hey Otto...You there? Dangit, I'm having a boring fourth, and was hoping to see SC with all my nifty new units today.
  4. Is everybody in? Is everybody in? The ceremony is about to begin. WAKE UP!!
  5. I seriously doubt the addition of the Winter War is going to make or break this game. Is anyone else tired of hearing about the Finns yet? Seriously though, without absolutely barely trained incompetant leadership and logistics, the Soviets would have more than likely done quite a bit better in the Winter war than they did. The only thing that would really be interesting about the Winter War being included would be the possibility of the Allies actually declaring war on the Soviets and going to Finland's rescue as they almost did, but since this can't be done with the current engine, that's out.

  7. Ummm...the game isn't going to be d/l from the web...you'll get in in a nice little box from the postal service. I can't say I disagree with you on the manuals though, I absolutely despise PDF manuals.
  8. The Italy problems have already been fixed according to Hubert. On a side note, you can also take out America with the Germans pretty easy, but that too has been fixed in the final version.
  9. Go to The Underdogs and do a search for Clash of Steel. It's there free for download. I doubt it's everquest that caused you to miss it since this predates EQ by about 8 or 9 years I think.
  10. Already asked for that a while ago, and I believe the answer was that it wouldn't be in this one but that Hubert thought it was a good idea for any later versions. One reason I enjoyed No Greater Glory so much was because this was one of the options...made the replay value skyrocket.
  11. Hehe...just look for the numerous "Isn't this just like..." threads that are have popped up about every other day or so.
  12. One thing you might have problems with is Italy. I don't know how the game editor is going to work exactly, but I kind of doubt you'll be able to get much flexibility with them as far as who they join. Meaning I think countries will probably have to be set to only join one side or the other, not have a chance of joining either (Without a DOW of course). I'd love to be wrong on this though, so feel free to set me straight Hubert. I've always thought that WWI was more interesting in many ways than WWII because there wasn't a clear cut "Bad guy", and the consequences of a German victory would seem in some ways to possibly have been better (In respect to avoiding further wars and disputes) than an Allied victory. And they came so close...oh so close...to pulling it off. WWII was more in doubt in some ways, but at least in WWI the Germans managed to make it a 1 front war, albeit a bit too late.
  13. Northrop's Flying wing, the XB-49, was aloft in 1946, as a jet bomber... It's a perfect "what-if" aircraft which actually flew! A quick Google search will supply everything you need! (God I love the internet... and DSL!!) heh! Aloid</font>
  14. Oh stop posting previews and get the thing released! http://community.battlefront.com/uploads/emoticons/default_biggrin.png' alt=':D'> What are you using for your Higher level prop bomber, if you don't have one, this could be an interesting one. This is an interesting jet bomber design proposal from FW. But I believe this is the design you were thinking of. BTW, all of these came from this site. Pretty interesting things on there. I personally like the forward swept wing Focke-Wulf. [ June 17, 2002, 04:31 AM: Message edited by: Wolfpack ]
  15. It can be done, although it's not easy. To make it work, you have to convince your opponent that you aren't going to do it. One way I've done it is to invade a neutral and not overwhelm them immediately. Pretend to have some problems. A lot of people will see this and decide to try to reinforce the apparent failure. Once you see English troops start landing, hit them in their own yard. I generally build up air power above everything else. By the time I launch Sea Lion, it's not unusual for me to have upwards of 8 air fleets. A lot of people will try to line the majority of the coast with Corps to try and head off the landings. 4 air strikes will usually kill a corps, another 4 will open a 2 wide breach, then if I have more air power, I use it on one or the other flank and land some troops to finish the job. Also, always get a HQ ashore early. If you've got the RN in trouble through your air power, a two pronged attack works wonders.I try to do this either hitting the east coast to completely cut off London or up north to "liberate: the Scots. In a one year scenario, it's a pain to get it all in under the limit, but it is possible...especially if you can get the Brits helping a lost cause somewhere else.
  16. You try flying really low, really fast, hoping nobody puts the "golden BB" through your windscreen and pick out which vehicles in a bunch are knocked out and which are just playing dead.
  17. Hehe...with the Soviets neutral, the game will go from easy to harder. With the Soviets on the Axis side, things just went from harder to well nigh impossible. That said, I'd also like to see a "3rd party" Soviet Union. Would make things more interesting for both sides not knowing which way they'd swing or when they'd do what they decide. As for playing with more than one player, you should be able to play with however many you want. I'm sure Hubert will correct me if I'm wrong, but you should be able to play Germany for example, save and e-mail to the Italian player and let them do their moves, end the turn and repeat with the Allied players. Since all of the countries have their economies and armies seperate, that should work. Might make for some interesting battles too when you have allies competing for MPP locations and country ownership. [ June 10, 2002, 10:01 PM: Message edited by: Wolfpack ]
  18. The AI in HC was perhaps the worst in a wargame I can remember. What made it so frustrating was that nearly everything else about the game was so close to perfect, that with a decent AI, I doubt I ever would have stopped playing. What made the AI lack even worse was that they built it without any form of head to head online play, not even PBEM. The designer's notes talk about that. It took long enough to make that the PBEM origins happened somewhere in the middle of the design so they released it rather than delaying it further. It is possible to PBEM, but the process is a pain, so I never did it. I've gotten it to run for a bit, but always end up with the error message saying that I don't have enough conventional memory. Can't seem to get around that one no matter what memory settings I use.
  19. 1: SC would be a strategic level game in that you control all, or at least, most of the country's direction. Production, politics (to an extent) ect. It can also imply controlling the entire war's overall procecution. Operational level games are generally more focused on purely military matters. The Operational Art of War by Norm Kroger is probably the best example. In this you can control large masses of units, and usually deal with supply issues, but generally have no control over production, diplomacy, ect. They're usually restricted to a certain point in the war, not the entire thing, but some have really stretched the boundries on this. Uncommon Valor and Steel Panthers are operational level games. Tactical level games are pure military (Generally no supply issues, production, ect) games in which you take a small unit (Platoon up to probably brigade, battalion sized) and control it for a particular part of the overall war. CM and CC are examples of these. 2: As for this, no airborne, although it's hotly debated. It's figured to be beyond the scope of SC. You can't do Market Garden because that was a tactical/operational maneuver, and this is strategic, or so the thinking goes. Just assume that most of your armies have airborne included in them, and when you attack all those things are going on "behind the scenes" as it were.
  20. Normally, when I play the axis, I use the highest settings. It delays me for a bit longer, but I can usually still run through France and Sea Lion. I'm generally a bit more cautious when it comes to declaring war though. I don't want to draw the Russians in before I'm ready. Have to try one like that as the allies.
  21. Where did you find the rule for a country loosing it's capital to instantly surrender? I have looked and cannot find it and I am wondering if this is not a completely true statement. Due to some demo games I have played I have taken capital cities but the country has not surrendered till later? Is there a time delay of some sort and this is what you are talking about?</font>
  22. Surprising nobody mentioned that since the ad also features small items for TacOps, SC, and AA, the little "Download Demos" (Notice the plural) most likely is referring to those games. Sorry to throw in a big downer here.
  23. Okay, tracked down one problem, for some reason his PBEM file is coming over at only 4.9kb instead of the normal 240kb or so. Any clues out there?
  24. Definitely worth reading. I very rarely play battles this large, my system chugs along enough with a 1500 or so pointer, but seeing the larger ones like this helps me in the smaller battles too, I just have to downsize a bit. I also enjoy seeing the clash of two opposing viewpoints like this battle is. BTW Fionn, who would you say has played closest to your "style" and how did it end up?
  25. I'm trying to play a PBEM with Grimlord, but we're encountering a myriad of problems. First off, he was using Yahoo, which apparently won't recognize the attachments, because none came through. Then he switched to Hotmail, and now the files he's sending are crashing the game. Anyone had this problem? Is it Hotmail, or just a somehow corrupted file?
