1. Please PLEASE don't put the manual in PDF format on the disk. That is so incredably annoying to me. The last thing I want to do is waste most of a $30-40 inkjet cartridge on a manual. I don't generally read the manual to play the game, but if I have to look something up, I'd rather not have to print the thing, or exit the game to look for it. I like to take the manual to work and read it in my spare time. With a small manual like the CMBO one, that's pretty easy to do. Not so easy when I'm hauling a bunch of standard printer pages around. If you want to toss out additions and changes in PDF, that's fine, but not the whole thing...please? [ April 10, 2002, 10:13 PM: Message edited by: Wolfpack ]
2. Wow...in the year and a half I've been playing, somehow I managed to miss that one. Thanks.
3. My friend and I are going to give an operation a go in multiplayer. Anyone have any recommendations as to a good one for that? And where to find it if it's not one of the BTS ones. I've only played maybe 3 of the operations, one is Carentan, and Remagen was one of the others. Not looking for anything huge, just big enough to keep going for a few battles. We tend to be close enough in skill that our fights either turn into big maneuver-fests with few casualties, or really bloody slogging matches.
4. Good deal...how much sanity do you think you have left. No rush...I rarely buy them, but got one today in a computer pick battle and it stuck out like a sore thumb. I like your previous work, so I will be looking forward to it.
5. I've had both good and bad experiences with FBs. I've only ever gotten them in PBEM QBs. The good being yesterday I decided to buy one for the heck of it, and on it's first pass it knocked out a PSW/3 and a PzIVJ. Already worth the money, then the second pass, it knocks out a StugIII and obliterates a building panicking the entire platoon that was thinking themselves safe within. It then stayed on station for 13 of the 25 rounds of the battle, causing much consternation among my opponents advancing troops. The bad would be when I was advancing 3 platoons across a smaller map, one on each flank and one in the center and along comes my FB to soften up the enemy and proceeds to drop his bombs square in the middle of my center platoon wiping it out to the last man...needless to say, my attack suffered. All in all, I like them, but rarely buy them, if I spend the points, I'd rather have something I can actually have a bit of control over, but sometimes they're worth it.
6. I've been looking around, but I can't find any Tiger CMMOS compatible mods. Am I just blind? Perhaps...the default Tiger camo is pretty bad.
7. Congrats on the recovery Ted. I blew out my ACL, MCL, and lost 80% of my miniscus and 30-40% of the cartiledge in my knee running sprints in PT while in the army, as you said, the noise is quite gruesome. I was given a medical discharge because they said I probably wouldn't be able to hump the gear and perform my duties (I was in the infantry). But about a year afterwards, I was back out playing football and raquetball, so I can understand completely your feeling when you got to go back out on the field. There's nothing like getting through that first game back...savor the moment.
8. Okay, I think I got it and god bless you Philippe. I unfortunately fell asleep in my chair before I could put any of this into use, but I have a few hours before work here. Thanks for the extra detailed responses.
9. So to make this simple then, I take the mod, unzip it and put the BMPs into the filelists folder? You went into rulesets there, and I'm not seeing rulesets anywhere here in the mods I've downloaded. for instance, the "buildings_Mike_Duplessis_CMMOS_hr" mod has a bunch of BMPs named "xxx_md.bmp" in other words, no funny extentions...do I just copy these to the CM BMP directory? The only other files are a description.txt and info.txt. What do I do with these? Yes yes, I know I'm a moron, but I've been driving for 14 hours today, bear with me. 10. Okay, while I'm sure this has been answered in the past, a search turned up a ton more posts than I have time to sit through. Quick and easy. How the heck do you use it? When I ask this, I mean, step by step from the beginning. I download a CMMOS mod...where do I put it? I've tried all the places I can think of, and I'm not getting any more options here...the readme apparently assumes a bit of knowledge about the way it works. I used the CMMod Manager and had no problems...quick I just got back from a long trip and I've been listening to WWII books the whole way...someone tell me so I can stop worrying about it and go play CM in all it's beauty.
11. Okay, but where's the data on the level of say a golfball sized chunk of hail hitting a tin roof? Seriously, I would think considering the turret design of the KVs, not only would it be easy to hit, but wouldn't the sound level be increased? I'm not familiar with the interior design of the turret, but it seems like a big bell waiting to be rung to me.
12. I seem to remember reading somewhere about how the small caliber-rapid firing guns would just plink away at the hull of the KVs until the sheer noise level drove the Soviet crews out of the tank and out of their skulls incidentily. I can imagine it would be something like being in a tin house in a hailstorm magnified by about 1 million.
13. Hehe...looking at the alpha picture there, I see a "Regret Move" button...I can't tell you how many moves I've regretted making playing CM. If you get this done and out, I'd love it. I'm one of those people who likes a good (Great) tactical game like CM, but I really really enjoy playing in the "Big Picture" too.

I cant remember the *exact* details but it should give you a fair idea of how it worked. It was May '42, and I was playing as the axis player [ 01-20-2002: Message edited by: KwazyDog ]

Oh come on...we all know you just wanted to do this to make us all envious of the fact that you're getting to play the game while we have to wait for it.
15. What I want to know is on the order page why the Japanese get the cool wavy flag thingee and the other three are so flat and boring.
16.
quote:
Originally posted by Vader's Jester: I'm playing one of Wild Bill's Operations (Stolberg).

That's a really fun operation. I enjoyed it as the Germans too, just make sure you give the AI a little bonus, it gave me plenty of surprises each time I tried to mount a counterattack.
17.
quote:
Originally posted by sturner: An by the way Pillar, the Roman legios never defeated a Greek phalanx head-to-head. They only won when the phalanx was disrupted, either through terrain, or by being attacked in the flank or rear.

Of course, that's the whole reason why the Roman legion was a better unit that the Greek phalanx, more control, and adaptability. The legion could fight in almost any terrain and hold it's own, and (usually) hold it's own if attacked in the flank or rear. The phalanx was a great formation so long as you had good terrain, and could ensure a head on fight. Any commander that runs his legion into a phalanx in a head on attack would deserve what he got. Sorry, just had to add that in.
18. Eglin Air Force Base has a nice little museum near Ft. Walton Beach. Last time I was down there they had an SR-71, B-17, B-24, P-51, P-38, P-47, a good number of more modern stuff, and some that I can't think of. It's a good place to spend a bit of time if you're in the area, plus it's right near the flight line if you want to watch those while eating lunch. If you're looking Civil War, I haven't been there in many many years, but I remember Fredricksburgh and Petersburgh had some nice battlefield parks, and of course, if you go that far, you have to go by Gettysburgh. If you're in Atlanta, stop by the Cyclorama, which is worth a visit, and Chattanooga has a few spots. You can always do what I did and climb Lookout mountain. (Something I definitely would NOT want to do under fire )
19. Another factor that I think would apply both to the light AT guns knocking out tanks, and crews abandoning tanks would be the use of rivets and bolts in the construction of ome earlier tank models. When hit, even with a non-penetrating shot, these things had a nasty habit of shearing off and riccocheting around the crew compartment. I don't know about you guys, but I start taking hits from any gun and it starts red hot slugs of metal around me, I'm getting the hell out, even if nobody has gotten hit yet.
20.
quote:
Originally posted by Stuka: "Owww! My Thingey!!"

Sounds like a personal problem, and something you shouldn't broadcast to the board in general...I'm sure there are some nice doctors out there.
21. Actually nearly any tank with a Christie designed suspension was designed to do this to decrease wear and tear on roads, and increase road range. Problem was, depending on the design, it could take hours to make the changeover, therefore, no place in the scale of CM. I believe the T-34 was the first Soviet tank that had a Christie based suspension that did not include this feature.
22. I like the idea...I'd also like to hear some new American voices. As much as I like hearing "My leg!" over and over, something new would be nice. I hope CM2 has more options for the sound files.
23. IIRC they said they were looking into team multiplayer, but would have to see how difficult it would be to implement. Anyone feel free to correct me if they've said anything new.
24. Well, I have downloaded it a couple of times, and I'm getting the same results. And, like Duster, the sounds play fine in windows, it's just when played in CM that they go into slo-mo.
25. I downloaded these mods, decoded them, and set everything up. Now when I play, I get all those new sounds in super slo-mo. The Germans sound like they're trying to yell around a mouthfull of food. Now, this would be okay if they were moving in slo motion while I was at my normal speed to, but unfortunately they aren't. Any clue what might have caused this?
