The Peng Challenge Remembers Jim Boggs
CMplayer replied to Lars's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
That was very thoughtful of you, Lars, thank you. You're the only kaniggit around here I really trust. The candid and forthright way you issue 'run' commands to all your infantry on turn one bespeaks your guileless nature. So I would like to ask you a favor. Would you please memorize the face of the lady in the picture below? I have reason to believe she is the one who kidnapped my rightfully owned wolf pups last autumn in a vile perversion of justice. Do let me know if you should discover anything of her, or the pups' wherabouts. The reward is a crate of Swedish beer. -

Now I don't think that was called for, Joe. I put in my petition through the proper channels, in the proper form, with all the paperwork and all I get back is a size 36 blowoff? I'm a fully trained kniggit of ready wit from the Runyan House by gum, with my Grandliege's sense of histrionics and possess the added advantage of being especially vile and hateful to dalem[/b. Shouldn't that in itself be enough to warrant elevation? -

Speaking of which, Joe Xia, why aren't I listed as a kaniggit in good standing? Our little byte battle (I remember it well.. especially the bit about the trucks) was my fifth pool game iirc. -
Wanted: A Really Good CM Player

That sounds like a challenge. Send me a setup or eat your words. And I only play my kind of game, which is Chance Encounter in the original demo version. -

Sad news. May James Boggs rest in peace. What a great guy he was. -
What artillery is best for trenches?
CMplayer replied to securityguard's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Anyone heard if trenches/foxholes with overhead cover will be in the new engine? Because they sure as hell were in the war. -

Has CM killed ASL and other board games?

Can you give any examples? It would be interesting to check them out. </font> -
Has CM killed ASL and other board games?
CMplayer replied to Richie's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Board wargaming is adapting to the computer market, rather like the movies had to adapt to the coming of TV. Boardgames are more social to play, but the newer games coming in the wake of computer wargames need to have less number-crunching, better graphics and really play up the fun of a good evening's gaming with a buddy. So they are going a bit in the beer & pretzels direction. -

Contour Lines Desparately Needed
CMplayer replied to jrrich0000's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Yes this is what it comes down to. The game graphics look nice, but they're not good enough to give all the information that a normal eye in the same situation would see. Therefore, the contour lines (easily toggable) would support the eye. It has _nothing_ to do with whether troops would have had contour maps, terrain fog of war, shifting dunes or any of that. It only has to do with being able to see what's on the screen in front of you. -
You're a grad student, right? Here's a research project for you. Use the 'search' function and find a proper set of the rules. Then figure out which very important rule you violated. Sheesh, SSNs these days. Confucious said, if I give him a corner he should be able to come back with the whole cloth. Nowadays you give them a sewing machine and they stink of fish for a month. Edit: so here's your 'corner of cloth'. Archive 3, 2001, search term 'oogah'. [ May 07, 2004, 04:40 AM: Message edited by: CMplayer ]
