  1. Stop! His elevation to Serf is not valid. In spite of Joe's notorious pedantry the name of the candidate is not correctly spelt. It should be 'Para-' not 'Pare-'. Until such time as the error is corrected Parabellum's status is SSN with all that that entails.
  2. Who said they're friends? Half the people in the Peng thread have restraining orders out on each other. They could get arrested for invading someones in-box. Some people aren't fit to be part of the 'community'. That's why we have special places for them to live. Why don't you show some compassion and pay them a visit? Bring flowers, newspapers, porn videos, and while you're there challenge one of them to a game of CM. They will thank you for it.
  3. But...wouldn't that be a tautology? </font>
  4. You mean impulse moves as an alternative to Igo-Ugo? You proposed that in 1967? That's the greatest thing since sliced cheese! Seriously! A few days ago I whipped out my copy of Squad Leader and set up 'the Guards Counterattack', just for nostalgia's sake, but couldn't get past two moves. Why? Because the impulse system in 'Lock n Load' (derived from other games of course) is so totally superior in play and feel.
  5. Gamey update: Panzer Leader still hasn't sent a turn. That makes two years tomorrow. His little computer dudes are wading through deep snow towards the flag I decided not to contest (except that it's one big minefield covered with TRPs). I really want him to go there and I've been waiting TWO YEARS! That's what I wanted to say. Thank you for listening and gud bless P.S. Boggs I never expected to run into you in these parts. I always thought of you as a strictly outerboards kinda guy.

  7. Off topic question: when you click "go" then the machine takes some time calculating "something". After that it starts the timer and the turn unleashes. Is that "something" all the stuff that's gonna happen during the turn?[/QB]</font>
  8. You mean the 'Soup-Nazi' gag? Funny, yes. But it's not the same thing as calling someone you're talking to a nazi.
  9. Unfortunately it's not. That's just eye candy. The engine decides 'hit or miss' then it does some animation to make it look nicer.
  10. Of course I agree. The thing is that the game is already FULL of gaminess. Many of them come from the weakness of the AI. Too many functions are left to the AI, which the AI can't really handle. Simpler behaviors, with more player control (like TacOps) makes for a better game IMO. The LOS tool described would indeed be gamey as you say, but it would be to compensate other, already existing problems.
  11. Is it any more ridiculous than being able to fly around the battlefield and look at it from different angles? TacOps, which is a much better simulation than CM, allows LOS checks from anywhere to anywhere. I'm not sure exactly why, but it's probably to counter the fact that the AI can't do things that humans would naturally do, such as stop once you've got LOS. (as has already been said). That seems to me like a good argument for allowing it.
  12. This is the original, afaik: From 1965
  13. I started out around 10 with Tactics II and then played the hell out of the AH classics. At 12 or 13 I almost beat a guy who'd written an Afrika Korps tactics article in The General at a tournament. I overran him and took his last on board supplies and took the 'almost to Alexandria' hex (Tobruk was besieged) so he couldn't get supplies to his troops out on the board. Heh heh. But I was only a kid so I stupidly left the supplies where he could capture them back. Even so, he was white-faced after that. He'd even asked me (in a very quiet voice) to let him take back the move which enabled my overrun.
  14. I saw it and it was beautiful. He said what everyone was thinking but didn't dare utter. The Bard is gone but he's not forgotten.
  15. Well that was... lovely. Honey for the ears. The bard himself could learn a lesson or two in poetastery from you.
  16. I want shoot and then decide whether to try again or boogie depending on whether they noticed where the shot came from.
  17. It's not enough to reluctantly follow the rules. Try again with feeling.
  18. Wasn't that thing in an episode of Wild Wild West? (the original show, not the stupid Hollywood knockoff). I think they called it the juggernaut. It would roll into a western town and basically shoot the place up.
  19. I vote for the truck. Brought the supplies that made everything else happen.
  20. A large-caliber artillery shell won't knock out a bunker? I'd think a direct top hit by a 300mm rocket would have SOME effect ... </font>
