  1. Woah.... had a bit of dyslexia there and thought your nick was [*delete*]. Maybe I need to start using reading glasses.
  2. Don't you hate it when that happens? In night scenarios, a good part of orders-giving 'hygiene' is to click on every unit you have and make sure they don't have a target line to another one of your units. Also, set covered arcs (where possible) to exclude your nearby friendlies.
  3. I'm sorry but your post makes no sense. I assume you play CMBO, BB, AK. Let's discuss horrible atrocities during WWII. Firebombings, extermination camps, summary executions, torture, rape, profiteering (both by small-timers and by industry), men brutalized by combat to where they behave like animals, women forced into prostitution, orphans, epidemics, drug addiction, body parts collected as trophies, starvation... It's all there and more. Tactical wargames are about playing the tactical challenges of the weapons systems and troop organizations that met on the field of battle. They rightly leave that other stuff out. Vietnam is not essentially different in that regard, and is a suitable subject to wargame, at tactical, operational and strategic scales. There are already good treatments out there on all those scales in the board wargame industry, though there's plenty of room for improvement. 4. My experience from many games is that a single Tiger won't do much against a company or more of infantry that is in any kind of decent cover: 1: He can only shoot his 88 at one squad at a time, and the ROF and target acquisition isn't that great. So even with 12 turns, squads he routed at the beginning of his 'rampage' will already have recovered by the end. 2: The infantry can simply move out of his LOS. If the tiger enters the close terrain to find them he'll get a bazooka round up the tailpipe. Now since the terrain of that map is definitely 'close' with lots of cover and restricted LOS, I'd say the tiger's chance against the infantry is about nil. I used to play a lot of TCP meeting engagments and I liked to buy all infantry, and watch my opponents' uberarmor spit and fume with nothing to shoot at. One opponent even accused me of being 'gamey' because I didn't buy any tanks for his King Tiger to kill [ December 22, 2003, 12:47 PM: Message edited by: CMplayer ]
  5. A single, unsupported tiger can't 'rampage through infantry' in a town, especially in the short space of time left in that scenario.
  6. Easier said than done. Anyone stuck on the map at the end of the turn will autosurrender.
  7. No one said anything about a CM of the Intifada. They were talking about the Arab_Israeli wars, that is to say, the full scale land wars between Israel and Syria/Egypt/Jordan.
  8. Yes, well the call was for the *new* and *upcoming* engine to tackle Vietnam, not the old engine. So they would have the opportunity to fit the scale to the subject.
  9. What bugged me about that Mel Gibson flick is that in real life Moore was skinny and Galloway was fat, but in the movie Galloway was skinny and Moore was definitely a bit on the pudgy side.
  10. Ahh yes, the headless chicken dance. Seriously, I think CM would be better without any morale effects at all. Or better, they should never go below 'pinned'. At least until some real AI is developed.
  11. How would that work then. If you play as the IRA then you can do what you want.IE leave bombs all over the place. And if you play as the Brits you not allowed to shoot back. And if you do manage to kill a terrorist then the rest of the world starts winging and moaning about it. So that wouldn't work would it. </font>
  12. LeTondu, most of what you mention wouldn't be within the scope of the game. Napalm and WP would be in, of course, as well as burning hooches.
  13. Right, well I'd love to see a Falklands CM, and I think I've even asked for it on this very forum. But as usual its only because I'd been reading a few books on the subject: Adkins' Goose Green, No Picnic, Green Eyed Boys, and a couple more I forget the titles of. I've also asked for Korea, Malayan Emergency, Aden, ... what the hell, I'd even like a CM of the 'troubles' in Northern Ireland if it were at the right scale which it's not. I'm interested in the goddam Boer War fer chrissakes, which has got to rank lower on the all around popularity scale among grogs than Vietnam (they call it the Bore war). So... speaking of high horses, you've got one to get off yerself.  [edit to add: don't take those madface smileys too seriously] [ December 21, 2003, 10:54 AM: Message edited by: CMplayer ]
  14. Any war is. The thing is, most wars have more of them. But what would a Swede know. Is it okay if I choose the scenario and you choose your side? </font>
  15. Right well then you can take your battle of britain and stuff it.
  16. Have you actually studied the subject? Vietnam (both the French Indochina war and the American involvment) is full of interesting tactical situations, which would work well at the scale of CM.
  17. First: she's not whining. She's making a reasonable request. Two, we're all whining for CMX2: just that the engine will cut its teeth on Vietnam. Frankly, WWII is getting a bit boring.
  18. ???? Don't expect that it will be like in that "really historical" film, though... </font>
  19. I'll add my voice to the chorus. BFC! Use the next engine to cover Vietnam!
  20. I was playing around with a couple of Vietnam scenarios using CMBB. The Germans represented the USA, the Soviets NVA, Partisans VietCong. The problem was that I used 50mm mortar teams to represent the M79s, but the guys were a bit slow keeping up. Apart from that you could get a decent feel for it (from my purely second hand experience of course). Main gripe (apart from the terrain) was that it might have been better with the rifle firepower being upped a bit. One scenario had a platoon enter a booby-trapped village (with a 1000 point flag in it) and clear it of a couple of snipers: then they had to hold there for 1 hour. During that hour the woodsline around the village fills with about a battalion of NVA. Woops. They've got lots of artillery, though. One was the typical night company defence position getting attacked by the 'big one' (viet sappers breaching minefields and the works).
  21. Mind expanding on that a bit? Just exactly how do you see that working? Plz submit flowchart monday morning, 8:00 AM. </font>
