  1. Consider this (pardon if this has been discussed previously): Taken from 88mm Flak gun info panel (June 1943). Armor penetration vs. typical enemy. APCBC 0 degrees: 154_142_129_105 30 degrees: 120_111_101_84 60 degrees: 61_61_61_54 I guess this is just a mistake in info panel numbers, not the penetration model, right? Don't have time to do any tests right now.
  2. Spotted one mistake in your test, Ligur. It's "Stolichnaya" not "Stolishnaya". Great post.
  3. Are there any friendly units nearby the target point you've chosen?
  4. I hate to interrupt your intelligent conversation, ladies and gentleman, but i have a reason. And the reason is, i can't send the e-mail to the old Seanachai, because the MSN server bounces it back with strange and misterious label – "Can't send to <seanachaibard@msn.com> – No promo". Because of this i can't finish to crush his inferior Soviet troopies, so if you see him somewhere around here, please tell him to send me a mail from, perhaps, other adress, or to check if everything is ok with his MSN e-mail account. And, i belive, this is my first post in the Pong Charade Threat. I hope it'll be the last too.
  5. Hi! Some time ago, after I recieved CMBB, i erased the CMBO from my hard drive (herecy, guilty as charged!). Now, for some reason, i wanted it back again, but the CD is damaged. I can copy Data and Scenario folders, but the application (one of the early versions) itself can't be copied. Disk error of some kind. Now, i downloaded the CMBO 1.12 update from Battlefront.com FTP server, as i knew it contains the application file, but it crashed immediately after launch, with error type 2. It seems it is not possible to skip all those intermediate updates and jump directly to the v1.12, right? Is it still possible to get some early ones? If not, would it be very bad thing to ask somebody to mail me earliest possible version of CMBO application? For some reason i can't tell the exact version number. The "Version" field in Info window says "n/a".
  6. Oh, the man himself showed up! Greetings! Actually, with my original message i didn't intended to take that task on my own puny little shoulders, but asked if anyone has done it before. But it seems that it's just about the right time (after what, 3 years?) to do something for the community. I'll certainly let you know if i manage to create something worth talking about.
  7. I personally don't intend to by CMAK. Simply i'm not interested in endless desert maps and in theatre as such. That means you will have at least one guy to play CMBB PBEMs with until the next engine comes out.
  8. At your service. E-mail is in the profile, in case.
  9. I know there has been some scenario conversions from BO to BB (like Riesberg, Valley of Trouble), but has anyone done a Wiltz scenario for CMBB? Certainly it's not listed on Scenario Depot. I'm feeling slightly nostalgic and it was such a nice scenario, shouldn't be too hard to make it for CMBB. Pleeease?
  10. This needs a bump. I enjoyed the CMBO ByteBattles™, and i'm looking forward to BB ones. Keep us updated.
  11. I'm also a small-battle-believer. But only recently i've found the small operations very enjoyable. Pity that there's only 8 medium sized operations in the Depot (the best in my opinion was "Gamblers Fallacy" by marc s, try it). So this serves as a plea for scenario designers to design more small-sized operations.
  12. I recently played an operation which involved light german armor (armored cars and haftracks) moving in difficult terrain against a force which posessed multiple anti-tank rifles. Those proved to be a real pain in the .... as i lost many of halfies and all armored cars. The biggest problem with ATRs are, that they're practically indetectable at even half-decent range. My test scenario showed, that actively firing ATR (regular PTRD in woods, no foxhole) is hard to spot by an elite sharpshooter, even when range is about 100m (at this range, in some cases ATR was spotted, in some – not, there were no obvious explanations, why). At 200m there's only sound contact even after firing for multiple turns. What i'm looking is other people's tactics with or against ATRs. I can provide some observations of my own. First, it SEEMED that bunching up multiple sharpshooters in more or less same space, improved spotting chances. Also, one tactic (somewhat gamey) i found usable against AI, was "sitting duck". I drove one - cheapest - vehicle out in the open, the area i knew was covered with ATR fire but at a considerable distance (400-500m). Two ATRs (sound contacts) started firing. At this time my other vehicles were rushing from cover to cover, advancing closer to enemy positions. Since ATRs were locked on to the poor "sitting duck", the other vehicles crossed the open with no casualties. The key thing here, i guess, is that due to death clock and relative un-lethality of one single ATR round, they kept plinking at the vehicle for considerably long time, giving other vehicles a chance to reach cover.
  13. Umm, i've played CMBO since Beta Demo, and i've never ever seen Flak 88 firing at the aircraft. If what you're saying is true, then this is something new to me. Care to provide a screenshot or savefile?
  14. Check, what type of ammo your ATRs have. If they don't have HE, they won't be terribly effective in taking out bunkers.
  15. What makes you think you can't target the TRP? The line may be red/black (sight blocked) but you still can target the TRP. Check what delay counter says. If it's 1 minute or less, then you've successfully targeted the TRP.
  16. No, big Flaks were ment to shot down high flying bomber formations not the low-flying close air support we get in CM. 88mm Flaks have never fired at the aircraft in CM. Small ones do, however (20mm and 37mm).
  17. How come there's more cover on pavement than in the open ground (with dips, stones etc.)?
  18. Bump. And could i please get my dirty hands on this Op? edgars@bates.lv
  19. Oh, thanks. I downloaded it, but... how do you launch a Java applet on a Mac? Is it possible to launch it under OS 9? I rebooted in X, found an app "Aplet Launcher" but none of the files found in a folder did anything.
  20. Biltong and other guys, who stand behind this opus magna! Some time ago i played Wreck's original campaign rules and liked them. But yesterday I downloaded the PDFs (i am a Mac user), and wanted to play some nice quickie campaign, opened the Rules file and... ...whoa, 17 pages! This was just too much for me. I understand CMBB itself is huge, all the options and variables, and real life stuff you have brought in it, but 17 pages... I just didn't have so much time to do this. Anyway, to my question: is there any way (perhaps i missed it) to automate the rules at least partially? Some excel spreadsheets with formulas and random number generators? Perhaps some Java applet? If it's not here yet, is it planned to bring something like it to life? Thanks and respect for your dedication. [ March 05, 2003, 08:32 AM: Message edited by: edgars ]
  21. Magnificent! The option to see the real pictures is a nice touch.
  22. Maybe it's because bunkers are being treated as vehicles by game engine?
  23. I have (a legal) Mac CMBB and I have made a disk image – an exact copy of CD – of CMBB. It's sitting on my hard disc, when i want to play, i simply double click the disc image icon, and it mounts in a matter of seconds. The CD drive is free, so i can play some music, and original disc is safe and protected, lying in the drawer. EDIT: I wonder if you can do the same on a PC? 24. Hmmm...now that you mention it, I've never seen it happen when I'm going up against armor. I think it is just HE rounds. </font>
