  1. Is there water or such there? Only thing I can think of that would screw with heights. WWB
  2. One other trick--Shoot & Scoot works forwards. Gives one very nice firing halts actually . . . WWB
  3. I list references when appliciable, even if the main one tends to be the mental collection of random readings I have in the good old noggin. The battle size parameter you see has nothing to do with the size of the map--it has everything to do with the unit count--including fortifications and all possible reinforcements--for the particular fight. So OPs are almost invariably huge once you throw in conditional reinforcements. Scenarios will vary considerably, I have seen battles listed as small on 1x2km maps. I have one pushing large on a 480x640m map. WWB
  4. You do one of two things--what Marc did there or just allude to it in the briefing, maybe placing a few paniced vehicles for good measure. I think the method Marc used is better, especially if properly balanced. It starts the battle in media res to borrow a literary term, making it much more exciting. Given that the author is aware of the impending death of those tanks, I suspect they are accounted for in the victory points, flag placement, mission objectives and force balance categories. Remember, scenarios are not QBs. There is not a fixed point ratio in any way. You can make strange things happen. It is quite possible to do breakthrough battles, for example, using a combination of exit zones, time restrictions and map size to make it somewhat competitive. As for particular flavors of battle, I suggest reading the briefings before embarking. If you cannot handle playing against Tigers, dont play Tiger Tiger as russians. If you hate mud, dont play Korsun Relief. If anything, there is a glut of quality scenarios coming out for CMBB. More than likely you will find something that will not aggrivate your pet peeves. WWB
  5. That additional spread is what has been patently unrealistic about unspotted arty in just about every tactical wargame since SL. The spotter not having LOS decreases the accuracy of the strike--shifting the mean point of impact (MPI). It does not make the guns shoot a wider pattern. When spottiog out of LOS in a CMBB battle, try using the Target Wide command. It will spread a bit more and make the strike less of a crapshoot. Finding bugs takes micromanagement and careful watching. There have been numerous reports of arty falling off target even when there was a spotting round, but I have never reproduced it or seen hard evidince that such an event happened. If anyone has proof, send it to matt. Also, there is a workaround to getting TRPs in MEs. Just get with your opponent, agree on the number of TRPs per side. Then go into the editor and generate a battle. Remove the flag & setup zones and buy the agreed-upon number of TRPs. Then start the battle as a map import with forces and you are good to go. It should place setup zones & flags for you. As for 122mm, Andreas has the numbers. Regarding organization, they were in the same place within the TO&E as the german 150mm pieces, and have a similiar rarity figure. Also, if you want some more interesting force options while maintaining rarity try going with the variable sort. It does a very good & realistic job of making some things more avaliable, almost always including some cheaper higher level arty in the discount package. WWB PS: Jason, for divisional level 122/150s it is a 30-40% rarity surchage at standard levels. Oftentimes worth the price. [ January 22, 2003, 02:20 PM: Message edited by: wwb_99 ]
  6. Was there LOS? Did anything happen to disrupt LOS? Firing blind WILL NOT be accurate. The uber-accurate arty of CMBO is quite historically inaccrate. CMBB arty, if anything, is too flexible. If you got a spotting round and the arty was inaccurate, that could be a bug. If you have savegames, send them to madmatt or something. WWB
  7. You forgot CMTech at The 3d Wargamer. More coming soon, am working away but live updates will not happen until I get my home internet connection back. WWB
  8. I will be coming after dinner. 5'11", brunette, glasses with a face only a mother could love, and a newish-goatee. WWB
  9. I will definitely show, although I might be a bit late--I have a dinner engagement I cannot escape. WWB
  10. Well, a certain individual had a coronary about not getting his download counter. The only beef I, and most of the other "name" designers, had was that we had not given premission for redistribution of our works. There apparently were some attempts at gaining permission, but they were not clear nor strong enough. In fact, in a number of private discussions amongst ourselves, we agreed that we applauded his work, there was just a minor issue with execution. I hope the guy has not run off permenantly due to a few individuals taking download counters and feedback too seriously. I just like to maintain control over my intellectual property. The reviews will come with time. WWB
  11. Send a savegame to Matt@battlefront.com. WWB
  12. I know my 2 recent additions are not up as well, but I am without home internet access at the moment and will try and update them when I can. WWB
  13. 2000 would do better if you can get it. Not to mention the whole XP activation scheme--you need to buy 2 more XP pro licenses to run it. Biggest variable here is RAM, which also happens to be very cheap. Give em 256mb apiece and you should not see too many issues. The stability & security of the NT kernel are worth it IMHO. WWB
  14. Exactly why are they going to be equal. It could be established that a Panzer IID had the sort of sights that gave it "good optics." Can you establish exactly what sort of sights? Just because it is a later design, in a different country does not mean it is better. WWB
  15. Somewhat similar to the system I have(XP 2000+, Ti4400, Abit A7V8X). I am using the 41.09s at the moment, CM has no issues so long as FSAA is disabled. What settings are you using? Do you have FSAA on and is CM looking good? WWB
  16. Only trick I know is turning off the sounds beforehand. P4s have a really long data pipeline and comparitively weak floating point performance. CM rides on floating point and prefers more macintosh like processors such as Athalons. WWB
  17. Do you have the CDV version? If so, there is no intro video. If not, you need quicktime installed for it to play. WWB
  18. Ditto here. I do review whenever appropriate. Best of luck to you all, let me know if I can be of assistance. WWB
  19. There did they search? on yahoo? It doesn't take too much to contack experts in Russia thought inet (www.armor.kiev.ua for excample),they can provide with that information (there are alot of other places and people who know about whose thing just because it is their jobs). It couldn't be SHORT. Do you guys really believe that russian did'n have veteran soldiers/crews/pilots by the begginig of war? (by mid/late there were plenty)Germans fought in Europe before attacking Soviet Union right:D ? They got their expirience, and what russian slept this time? What do you know about "Халхин-Гол"? Another thing that german attack was perfectly planed and prepared, and german e..e..e spec.forces have arrived before the attack descised and cut off communications or just "took out" russian officers (in many places). In Ukraine was a pro-fashist community, whitch members with the beggining of Barbarrosa simply attacked soviet officers in cities.</font>
  20. Simple method: Make a shortcut to IE. Then go into the properties and tell it to open maximized. WWB
  21. About Tiger Tiger--The first batch of Tiger crews was handpicked from already veteran stug and panzer drivers. They should be at least veteran. As for designers having an Axis bias, I must say that is wrong. I recreate the battle as best as my sources can describe and my CM design skills can craft. I often find interesting battles that I skip doing because they would not be so interesting to play. Not to mention 5 green T34s should be able to take out a tiger without too many losses. WWB
  22. Get any decent art program, then paste the screenshot into it and save as a jpeg. WWB
  23. Trying to avoid excessive bogging is easy--dont use move fast for heavy tanks in bad terrain. Move is alot more forgiving. WWB
