Gentlemen: I present to you The 3d Wargamer, the newest in the growing collection of CM fansites. Right now we host The CM Technical Support Knowledgebase as well as Band of Brothers Chat. The links section is growing by the hour, and a section featuring my scenarios is on the way. So come, check us out, and try not to muss up the place. Interesting Quote from Panzer Aces
WWB replied to PvtTom's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
The rarity systems like you discribe Siricco are fundamentally flawed as they are at odds with reality. Take Tigers for example. They should be reasonably uncommon in general (base rarity). But when avaliable they should be plentiful because they were concentrated in heavy panzer battalions. If you saw one, you likely saw a dozen. With more common tanks you tended to have entire units of Panzer IIIs, for example. So a system where buying one makes the next one more expensive is at odds with reality. WWB WWB -
General questions about AI and scenario design in CMBB
WWB replied to peckham's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
What Slappy said. You don't have direct tools, but there are plenty of indirect ones. The CD scenarios were made by people with the same tools you all have, nothing more nothing less. WWB -
Random parameters are just that--random. They are necissarily fair or even interesting. You are alot better off picking most of the parameters then letting the computer buy the troops to keep the suspense factor. Then again you could try scenarios, which are kind of like semi-fair QBs someone has painstakingly designed for you to play and tend to be more interesting. WWB

Sounds like you did not install it properly--you need to copy the files into your CMBB folder. WWB

Gee, you have the game Deadmarsh. I wonder how hard it would be to run 100 qbs and compile a list. WWB

No nasty capture bug with CMBB TCP. At least none that I have seen and I have been testing/playing since January. WWB

I agree on not playing cheats. OTOH, there are so many parameters for QBs that it is very easy to make a mistake. So ask your opponent before labeling them an obvious cheat. Anyhow, one of the great satisfactions in dealing with cheats is beating them fair and square using their stacked deck. WWB PS: Note that the ugliest cheat possible is not there. We did make sure that one could not import a map with units unbeknownst to the opponent, ensuring no nasty things like free elite KTs.

They possibly should be in there. I did a test last night, they are noted if set to random but otherwise not noted. I would point out that it is pretty easy to notice if your fitness has been set different than agreed upon. And casualties wildly different from what is agreed upon are pretty easy to notice as well. One should also remember that attrition does not decrease the amount of force a player has, but instead gives them more variety by adding purchase points then doing the damage. A 1500 point force with 0% or 50% casualties has 1500 pionts of CM effectiveness. In the case of fitness, weakend troops also carry a discount. And, if you are defending, weakened or even unfit troops carry little penalty. Still, I think the line item should be in there for consistency's sake. WWB

There have been a variety of issues regarding Win2000/XP nVidia drivers. Most of these were tied up with FSAA, and solveable by either forcing or not forcing FSAA. Currently the 30.82 or 30.87 drivers work pretty much perfectly with CM (and most other games). The 40.xx series is slightly faster and reputedly has richer colors but does have transparent text issues when FSAA is enabled. WWB

Did you install any mods? WWB

The game will crash if a BMP is missing. Did you delete or rename any files you did not replace? WWB

use of russian heavies in early war ??
WWB replied to yapma's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Not quite. As of 6.22.41 there were some 259 37mm armed PzIIIs vs 707 50mm(short) armed PzIIIs according to Achtung Panzer. In 42, according to most accounts I read, the short 50mm armed models were more common. WWB -

radio equipped artillery spotters
WWB replied to cyberlettuce's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Radio spotters move faster and can ride vehicles. Wire spotters actually have better time-to-FFE based on Moon's statement in the Gamespy interview. WWB -

Check with your ISP--most give you 10mb of webspace with your account. Real web hosting is very cheap as well, 100mbs of photo-friendly space with a 500mb-1gb monthly bandwith limit is $5 or so a month. WWB
