1. Weeell... in the first phase of the Angolan civil war, 1975-76, soldiers from the Movimento Popular de Libertacao de Angola (MPLA), the Angolan Marxist party, found that two men could carry Katyusha rockets fairly handily, and that they could be fired in direct roles by setting them up on tripods made out of sticks. Great for terror attacks into enemy-held towns - didn't matter what they hit, so long as they hit something. BTS, I insist that MPLA soldiers using man-portable, stick-fired Katyusha rockets be included in CM2! Or somefink.
 2. I've seen F-Bs miss their targets on strafing runs quite often, even on soft targets like halftracks.
 3. When id released Quake II, did any Quake fans ask id to bring Quake up to Q2's standards? CM's a great game, I'll probably keep playing it, but at some point you have to move on.
 4. Abandonware is generally defined as any software which is unavailable through official channels (be that bricks and mortar stores, online ordering through a site like Chips and Bits, or directly through the company) and which is no longer being supported by the company. In some cases it's a marginally justifiable way of getting old games - I've got abandonare copies of the old Infocom games on my HD for example. The trouble is, a lot of abandonware sites assume that "old" equals "fair game." I've seen plenty of games on abandonware sites that are still perfectly available if you spend two minutes looking around. This sounds like one of those cases.

Kinda makes you wonder what that says for the Conservative way of thinking, doesn't it?

The "Conservative" way of thinking? ...because everyone to the right of the center is an anti-semite and a racist, or what? Out of curiosity, what about Sen. Jeffords? I guess he's not a racist anymore now that he's left the GOP? I'm amazed that a self-professed lefty such as yourself is still intolerant enough to believe that everyone on the right has one set of values. Believe me, I'm pretty much as left as you can get, and I can do without most of your values.

 7. I've had trouble with the ATI Rage Mobility chipset which is fairly common in laptops. It's an 8mb model, which isn't shabby for a laptop, and runs other games fine, but CM crashes unless I run the game in software mode. Oh well. Toshiba (IIRC) just released a laptop using the Geforce Go card, which is a scaled-down version of their 32mb Geforce MX card. That's the best portable gaming maching you're going to get these days, but it'll cost you.
 8. Small point. By the end of the war the Waffen-SS was using conscripts. So no, they didn't all volunteer to join a criminal organization.
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Fred: [QB]but it wastes time.

So don't read it? How much time does it "waste" to see Peng thread, process that Peng = don't read, and continue scanning up the page?
quote:
true-blue grogs do not taunt, they play...

Wow, I hope you someday realize how incredibly pretentious that sounds. I'm sure grogdom appreciates you appointing yourself its spokesman.
 10. Yadda yadda, waste of bandwidth. Here's a thought, geniuses - it's BTS' job to keep these boards running smoothly. If the Peng threads were really dragging down performance that badly, don't you think they would have locked Peng up and thrown away the key? I prefer not to read all the "Why doesn't CM model French hookers?!" and "My country can beat up your country" threads but I deal with them. So deal. [ 05-05-2001: Message edited by: Chupacabra ]
 11. Another thought - in a CM situation, I think it's not unreasonable to assume that units, and gun crews in this particular situation, have been in the field for some time, are tired/cold/hungry, and are hampered for those reasons. They're also often being shot at. I'd think any of those would impare performance. I'm not saying that CM models guns perfectly - it's entirely possible that guns should unlimber faster than they currently do. I've also seen photos of guns firing while limbered, which they can't currently do in CM. I think there's some tweaking that could be done, but as always at this point those tweaks will have to wait until CM2. Cheers.
 12. By the way - RIMM = Rambus In-line Memory Module. RDRAM's connector standard. Looks like a DIMM, but the pins don't line up.
 13.
quote:
Originally posted by Hannibal: Grognard is what Napoleon called his Old Guard .This was one of the most elite units of all time .Never felt right calling myself that just because I play games and grumble

Grumble? Um, then yes, you are literally a grognard. Maybe you should've listened to Berli when he said to look the word up
 14. Something which may be of interest: Leaked Nvidia drivers boost Pentium 4 performance. From The Register.
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by Guy w/gun: How in the hell have you never lost to the AI? Are you sure your not streching that a bit? Either you played nothing but humans from the very start or you were imaculatly born into knowing how to play CM.

Um, not a flame, and this certainly isn't intended as a boast, but I can honestly say that I've never lost a game to the AI. I don't really see what the big deal is. I don't consider myself a particularly skilled player, as my PBEM opponents can tell you. Playing the AI is different from playing humans, is all I can say.
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by Maximus: Oh com'on. you know I gotta get in on this.

Guess what, I have a PC, and even I think you should go the hell away. Or just pull your head out of your ass, either one. No, come to think of it, just go away.

Master Bates, so knock off the stone-throwing act. It looks petty.
 18. I don't play much anymore. Most of it's due to technical problems - since 1.04 was released CM doesn't seem to want to deal with my video drivers. If I run it in hardware mode it crashes every...oh, 5 minutes or so. Works fine in software mode, but ugly and choppy. So... I'm also pretty busy with my degree lately, that doesn't help. Then again, CM2 should be released right about the time I'm done with school and employed with (hopefully) enough money to buy a new computer. Fun times.
 19. Rock rock, rock n' roll Victory Location! Now I wanna sniff some 105mm VT

 21. Yeah, I'm basically of the feeling that when a game's no longer fun for me, I'll surrender or at least offer a cease-fire, depending on how it's going. If I feel that by hanging on a bit longer I can affect the outcome of a game, I'll stick in, but those games are fun anyway.
 22. One tip for defending in village/city settings: use the troops that were designed to operate in such settings, for example SMG-heavy and pioneer units. That's what they're there for, after all.

 25. It's also important to note, IMO, that many forms of cancer are more or less self-imposed as well. For example, most lung/mouth/respiratory tract cancers are caused by smoking. Most malignant melanomas are caused by people spending too much time out in the sun with not enough protection. Does that mean we shouldn't treat them? At some point I think we (as a society) have to just say: okay, these are all horrible diseases (AIDS, cancer, CJD, whatever) which affect millions of people, and a cure should be found. No matter what the cause.
