I'm thirsty! Darf ich bezhalen bitte? - I can't possibly drink any more. Wo sind die Toilleten? - I've had too much to drink. Gibt es ein Bahnhof in der Nähe? - I need to make a quick escape. That should help.
2. 300mm Schillerwerfers all the way. Oh, and of course the dreaded Bauhausfaust.
3. Hi Ales - Unfortunately I'm very limited in terms of time and money, so I'll be bombing straight through from Berlin to Praha, and from there to München. I'm really sorry I'm not going to see more of Eastern Europe, but I just don't have the means at the moment. Next time though. Thanks for the reply anyway! Chup
4. Howdy. I'm going to be in Prague on the afternoon of the 7th and the 8th (of this month). If any of you folk live in Prague and fancy getting drunk and talking war geek stuff, please reply.
5. I'll be back in NY after Nov. 3. If you guys can avoid killing each other at your first meeting and feel like doing it again, holler.
6. OTOH, can you imagine what a 12-pack of Long Toms hitting would look like? Put 300mm rickets to shame, I'd imagine
7. I doubt it's going to happen any time soon, as A) BTS has stated they've got more than enough on their plates for the future; The legal status of all things FASA-related is pretty much up in the air at the moment; C) Even if the legal bits could be worked out, I'd assume the license would be too expensive to make a game like that profitable for BTS if they continue selling via the internet.
8.
quote:
Originally posted by von shrad: BTW, I know a few wannabie Deputy Sheriffs. Do they all enjoy punking around pimply-faced teenagers? von shrad

Well, I would, wouldn't you? Especially if they're the teenagers in my neighborhood. Little puswads.
9. If it was the Nerf projectile, wouldn't it be fun and made out of foam? Most likely in the shape of an American football? Edit - unless I'm way drunk (true) and missed the smiley on the last post. Tee hee. [ 09-19-2001: Message edited by: Chupacabra ]
10. I think Finnish wire is called 'concrete bunker', or maybe 'insta-death nasty younogohere place.'
11. You've read 80% of all the books ever written on WWII? I somehow doubt that one. Unless you're the mortal incarnation of some sort of thousand-vagina'd Hindu goddess, in which case I humbly apologize, please don't reincarnate me as a slug.
12. In terms of artillery disloding/exploding mines, I have no idea. A hunch says yes, but no evidence either way. In terms of artillery 'vaporizing' wire, perhaps you could try to find a WWI vet and ask them how well artillery bombardments 'vaporized' wire? Artillery tends to chop wire up and toss it around, making it a nightmare rather than a mere bitch to get through. In any case, this is all stuff that would be done before a battle, not during, and thus falls outside of CM's scope.
13. Don't forget also lend-lease P39s. The Americans hated it, but that big-ass 37mm cannon in the front could punch through top armor wit a quickness.
14. I may get my two weeks for this, but c'est la vie. I agree completely with BTS' position - this board is not the place for discussing what happened. To put my position in some context, I'm from New York. Grew up in Brooklyn. I used to be able to see the twin towers from my bedroom window. I'm in London at the moment, and I don't know when I'll be able to get home. Apparently they've resumed some commercial flights into the city, but I simply have no idea what's going on. My brain has pretty much shut down in any case. One thing I'm certain of is that we need, all of us, and certainly those of us directly affected by the events of the last week, to return to normalcy as soon as possible. There will be plenty of time for soul-searching, for speculation, for justice, and for grieving. But not here. I know that some of you probably don't understand this. That's not my concern, to be honest. I can open any newspaper in England, turn on any television program, tune in any radio, and news of last week's tragedy will be at the forefront. There need to be places where it won't be. And this is as good as any. I'd request that, whatever your personal feelings, you not make this the place for them.
15.
quote:
Originally posted by Bobbaro: Then those cases where some anus fires a weapon generally into the air expecting the round to impact harmlessly only to read in the paper where some innocent was killed by a bullet from nowhere.

I'm studying Zimbabwe at the moment. When Independence was announced on April 17, 1980, it was naturally an incredibly happy moment for thousands of freedom fighters, some of whom had been in the bush for ten or more years. Most of whom had Kalashnikov rifles. Many of whom decided to shoot off a few clips in honor of the occasion. What goes up must come down. A lot of cattle bit the dust that day.
16.
quote:
Originally posted by Chad Harrison: i was also thinking of using the original scenarios only for a base, and then add upon them. that way, it would not be breaking the copywright anyways;

Yeah it would, actually. Think of it this way - I buy a Steven King novel. If I write a new chapter, tack it onto the end, and repackage it, do you think King's lawyers are going to leave me alone?
17. Alright you Pengy bastards. Remember me? Yep, that's right, it's your old Chuppy pal. Look close you lot, because you're not likely to see another post from me before Jesus comes down from the clouds and proclaims Benny Manieri the Saviour. Right then. How many of you feeble little simpletons live in Europe? If anyone's interested in having a drink with the one, the only...well, me...in October-ish, drop me an email. The address is in my profile. Yadda yadda, bling bling, sort it.
18. Me? Mud? Well... yeah. LegendMUD for 3 years. Good place, got taken over by too many 12 year olds. I used to play around 3 hours a day, then all of a sudden half the players on had names taken from either WWF wrestlers or Robert Jordan characters. So I decided to cut back a bit Anyway, yes, OT, we now return you to your regularly scheduled discussion.
19.
quote:
Originally posted by Soddball: Having run a number of RPG's and wargames over the last few years, and been an administrator and builder for a MUD, I can sympathise with his position - there are some industrial-strength wankers out there.

WARNING! COMPLETELY OT! Out of curiosity, which mud?
20. One of the most important things about PBEMing, I think, is to agree to the parameters of the match before you start. That way, you won't get bogged down with frantic 'you gamey bastard' emails halfway through. Everyone has a preferred style of play, and that's important to recognize. Some folk won't care if you bring 14 KoenigsTigers and half a division of VG SMG troops to the party, and some folk will expire in disgust at such a setup. Best to work out beforehand which type your opponent is; it saves a lot of trouble.
21.
quote:
Originally posted by Germanboy: Hi, you are of course right and this has been posted and shot down in flames. BTS' line according to my memory was that it would be too much micromanagement or somefink. My memory is going though, so if you can get the search function to run (best use Steve's membership number as search parameter), that would give you the right answer.

Given that he is creaky and old and German you can probably discount most of what he says But yes, I think he's right on this one. The LOS tool isn't perfect, but it works pretty well, and to do anything more comprehensive would require a lot of processing power. Figure that at the moment the LOS tool only has to calculate LOS to 1 degree at a time. And my computer is lousy enough that even that hesitates a moment before displaying the result. Fair enough most people have better computers than I do, but multiply that time lag by 360 and you get a decent hit on even a top-notch gaming rig.
22. One thing to possibly bear in mind is that, AFAIK, the manufacturing process for Geforce 3s is quite a bit more expensive than that of previous nVidia chipsets. So while you'll certainly see a price drop in the future, I doubt it will be as drastic as the price drop for older GeForce cards has been. If you can get a good deal on a GF3 now, I'd personally just go for it. But it's your dime, afterall
