  1. See, that's why you have to accuse the other guy of cheating if you lose. Cuts waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back on the guilt. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  2. Yanno - People with suggestions on how to improve CM are fine, and as Steve and Charles have pointed out, many player-made suggestions have made it into the game. But why must people continue to insist that they're right, and everyone else is wrong, and without their pet feature, CM is inevitably crippled? Col. Deadmarsh - Apologies if I come off harsh, it's not my intention. But understand that when we say "this has been discussed to death, do a search," that's not really an invitation to try to convince us otherwise. It's just going to lead to frustration on both sides. Without meaning to sound superior, you really can't judge the issues involved based solely on the demo. As IntelWeenie suggested, do a search on "dead bodies." You're likely to find that a lot more helpful than trying to proselytize us. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.

  4. I believe that properly spotted artillery is in fact quite acurate, although I'm neither an ex-artillery officer nor a proper grog, so I can't quote sources or provide data. In general, though, in all of the reading I've done, one of the things soldiers feared the most was artillery. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.

  6. I don't think it's a bad idea necessarily, but I personally doubt I'd use something like that. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  7. I'm going to agree with Mark IV and even go one step further - don't bother. You know how pissed off we all get when someone comes on this board and tells everyone how much better CM would be if it was just like CC? Not everyone's going to like CM. Not everyone has to. It's not our job to propagandize people into liking CM. I think that people on this board do a wonderful job getting the word out, and that's great, but why waste your time trying to convert the heathens in the desert? People can decide for themselves whether to buy the game. If they're aware that there's a demo and a large community supporting the game, most folks will download the demo out of curiosity, if nothing else. If they don't, screw em, CM's doing fine. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  8. Nah, you know what would really sell? CM: Beyond Agincourt. Of course, programming the Blindly Hack, Coup de Grace, and Loot Corpses commands would be a bitch. On the plus side, it's already possible to execute prisoners. And think about how much fun everyone would have researching penetration values of clothyard shafts vs. mail shirts! I am confident that, along with my revolutionary IGO/UNOGO system (which, I note with some dismay, has not yet been adopted by BTS), CM:BA will change wargaming forever, like the way that guys with long sticks on horses changed war forever. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.

  10. Hey now. Archers are not useless as a tank. They're just very very very close to useless. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  11. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Raze: Tests conducted by the US Army showed, that in a buttoned up tank, A penetration of the vehicle (in one side and out the other), would create a vacuum that would kill the crew <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Well, first, make sure of your terms. Unless I'm mistaken, a penetrating hit in CM is either a noncritical hit, a nonlethal critical hit, or a lethal critical hit. I don't think that "through and through" penetrations are modelled. If there's a proper military term for this, I don't know it. Second - Gee, wouldn't a shot that went in one side of a tank and out the other kill most everyone inside anyway? Buttoned or unbuttoned, I'd rather not be there. Third - um, yeah. Niggles are fine, they've led to some fixes and stuff (increased turret armor on the Tiger, for example) but some niggles are just too niggly to worry about. Theoretically, a sniper's bullet could travel up a tank's barrel, detonate the shell inside, and destroy the tank. That doesn't mean Charles should waste time coding the probability in. This niggle, my lad, is one of those niggles. Go Forth! Enjoy the game! Don't worry about it! ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  12. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Alexander: Another nuance to a Follow order would be allowing following vehicles to default to the command delay of the leading unit. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> "Follow me!" says the elite commander to the string of conscript vehicles behind him. I like the idea of a follow order, but this would be kinda silly, imho. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.

  14. I understand the reasoning behind this, but to be honest, I find it unnecessary. I think that CM already manages and limits movement orders effectively. I think that you're proceeding on the false assumtion that, in CM, we play the part of the highest-ranking commander on the scene. Which is true. However - we also play the part of every subordinate commander under that high-ranking officer's command, down to the squad level. I picture it this way. The highest-ranking commander - let's say we're dealing with a company - on the scene says to his subordinates "okay, platoon A, go take that town; platoon B, go blow up that tank; platoon C, angle into those woods; platoon D, hang back and provide a base of fire." Now, that didn't take too long. It's up to the platoon commanders to fine tune those orders and say "Squads A and B, fire into that building; Squad C, rush the machine gun on the second floor." That didn't take too long either. Obviously, if the company commander had to issue orders to each squad under his command, he'd go nuts, but that's what subordinates are for. Your main concern seems to be with limiting the Russian attackers in CM2. Unless BTS states otherwise, I've always assumed that troop strength will be handled in the same way that CM handles it. That is, while the Allies clearly had the material advantage over the Germans in the ETO, there were many individual battles in which the sides were roughly equal. If I've misunderstood your argument, I apologize, but I just don't see the need for a change like this. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  15. Literally hundreds of book on tactics have been written. I've had decent success going to my local Barnes & Nobel and plopping down at the WWII section. Which ones you like are really a matter of personal style. That said, even if you have a good idea of what you want to do, tactically, learning how to actually execute those tactics once you develope them is something that you have to learn through experience. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  16. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by howardb: JA2 had a long lifespan on my HD. Is there a follow-up in the future?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> SirTech completed an add-on to JA2 called "Unfinished Business" a few months ago. However, Talonsoft, SirTech's previous publisher, declined to publish UB. SirTech has also stated that JA3 is in the works, but considering that Wizardry 8 is still unfinished, and UB has no publisher, I'm not holding my breath for future SirTech products. It's a shame, they always turned out terrific games. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.

  18. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by David Aitken: Huh? What? Where? Uh... oh, yes, yes indeed! Nobody escapes my steely gaze... I can penetrate a brick wall at 500 yards! <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> What???!! That's absolutely absurd! Any idiot knows that the JDCI-2 BrickWall couldn't be penetrated at 500 yards by steel rounds. You'd need sabot or tungsten rounds at least . This is glaringly ahistorical, and reflects poorly on Steve and Charles' fitness to design, program, sell or be within 100 miles of a computer game. I demand that this be rectified in 1.04, or BTS'll be hearing from my lawyers. I am no fool! ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  19. Puka Puka? Hah! That's nothing! Why, just last night I saw a full brigade of Waffen SS throw down their rifles and start singing the jub-jub song from Return of the Jedi. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  20. There is a MMO game called WWII Online in the works. It promises to include FPS elements. I'm personally skeptical because the design sounds EXTREMELY ambitious, and in my experience, games that attempt to do too many things usually wind up doing them all poorly. Try www.WWIIOnline.com ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super. [This message has been edited by Chupacabra (edited 08-18-2000).]
  21. These questions have already been asked numerous times. The answers, so far, have been - 1) No. 2) Maybe. 3) Maybe. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  22. I think that this review is actually an older one, and has been roundly criticized by folk on this board. Put it in perspective - CM's received an absolute ton of glowing reviews. One mediocre one isn't going to spoil the party. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  23. Quango - I think folks have been very patient here, and I won't speak for anyone else, but I'm beginning to be annoyed. This isn't a board for CC. BTS have stated, over and over, that they're not looking to make a CC-type game. Their design decisions were well-reasoned, and for the most part well-implemented. There's no reason that you have to like CM. There are plenty of games which have been nearly universally loved which I just couldn't get into. I'm sure everyone's had the same experience. But, IMHO, to come to a CM forum and to keep telling us why CC is better than CM is a poor way to spend your time. You're not likely to make any converts here. It's my impression that the vast majority of folks here have played both games, and have chosen CM for a reason. If you choose CC over CM, that's your business. By all means, play whichever game you find more fun. But please accept that there are reasons behind CM's design, and that design is why many of us prefer CM over CC. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  24. Quango - As another person who's played both CC and CM and enjoyed both, I can see where you're coming from, but your ideas wouldn't work for CM. I'm not sure if anyone here can convince you, so I'll tell ya what. Right now, I'm drafting an email to Keith Zabaloui(sp?) at Atomic. In brief, I'll ask him two questions. 1) Do you intend to make, in the near future (say, within two years) a Close Combat game which is 3d, continuous time, and can support battles up to brigade size? 2) If the answer to number 1 is yes, will you represent infantry squads in the way that CC currently does; i.e., with each man being displayed on screen? I personally don't expect an answer, but if I do get one, I'll post it here. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  25. Nevermind, I won't look it up. Thanks, Tom ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
