  1. Just write "This is a mosque" on the church roof BMP, that'll be good enough.
  2. I think it was the opposite for the French IIRC.
  3. Thanks Madmatt for the update on Jerri getting kicked off. That's one more potential millionaire that the world didn't need. I'l be sure to check out the site.
  4. Niet! I mean no, I just need some info. ------------------ Ah scheist.
  5. I probably should have been more specific. How many active-duty soldiers are there in the Army right now? Officers included. A number for Reservists would also be great. ------------------ Ah scheist.
  6. I have been searching the web for an hour trying to find a solid figure. I'd check a world almanac, but the newest one I got is from '96. I need this information for a ten minute speech I have to give for school. Any help would be appreciated. Madmatt: do me a favor, don't lock this up 'till I get some info. Thanks. ------------------ Ah scheist.
  7. Roberto: Thirty bucks is alot to pay for a frizbee. ------------------ Ah scheist.
  8. Just from personal experience: It happened in junior high, long before these school shootings were even taking place, let alone becomming commonplace. My eigth grade history teacher was teaching us about WWII. He challenged us to find whatever memiorbelia we could and bring it into class. Well, my grandfather had given me a length of spent .50 cal belt that he had fired during the war (he was in the navy). The belt contained about a dozen casings and I proudly displayed it to all my friends before school. Most of them hunt often and they noted how the shells dwarfed 30-06 and other casings. Somehow the dean of students found out and pulled me out of my second hour class. He forced me to open my locker and confiscated the casings for the rest of the day. I was not able to display them and I felt stupid because some of my friends who I showed them to were in that class. After school I collected the belt and heard that another student's spent 40mm shell had also been confiscated. I also heard, and it wasn't just a rumor, that my history teacher was "disciplined" for encouraging such behavior. My younger brother who is four years behind me is in that grade now, with the same teacher. I asked him what he had shown for the class discussion about WWII. He said "what class discussion?" ------------------ Ah scheist. [This message has been edited by Minnesota Joe (edited 03-25-2001).]

  10. Subvet: Not as great as yours, but my regular Hetzer still kicked some ass! BTW- three of those vacant hulls up by the house (1 to the left, three to the right) were his trophies. The M4A1 to the far right was killed by another Hetzer. One more Hetzer took out two Stuarts. Lost those two to the Jumbo and a 'zook. ------------------ Ah scheist. 11. It might be just me, but until recently, I haven't had to hit "refresh" since a few months ago. Like I said, it could just be me. ------------------ Ah scheist.
  12. What version are you using? Maybe they will shoot in self-defense, but that causes quite an enigma if there are only two snipers present. ------------------ Ah scheist.
  13. I was playing a QB today and ran one of my surviving (American) snipers into a heavy 4-story building. I had no idea that there was German sniper in the same building until my guy was in it. My sniper was low on ammo so I figured, why not crack this kraut sniper's skull with the rifle butt of my own. I run him up to the 2nd level, right on top of the German sniper. And he sits there. One foot away from the enemy sniper. For two turns. After those two turns, I figured there was something wrong, so I commenced to order targeting commands against enemy infantry about 200 meters away. My sniper starts shooting at the Germans as the German sniper watches him do so. The German finally exited the building and was promptly blown up by a HE round from a Stuart. So...I guess in the land of version 1.12 snipers aren't taught basic hand to hand combat. Iv'e also noticed that snipers only shoot at targets >100 m away, no matter what. I doubt this is realistic and should be changed in the next patch (if there even is going to be one). ------------------ Ah scheist.
  14. lcm1947: Maybe you should read "Citizen Soldiers" by Stephan Ambrose. ------------------ Ah scheist.
  15. Maybe you could test this w/ mortars... ------------------ Ah scheist.
  16. Martin Cracauer I totally agree. You should be able to expand the map in all directions, not just north and east. Also, I'd like to see the ability to copy units. If you have several platoons of Volksgrenadiers that you want all to be on low ammo, you shouldn't have to go into every squad and edit it to get the desired result. I really like Panzer Leader's idea of having blank BMP files open for modding. It would be great if the came in different sizes and heights too, or adjustable ones. ------------------ Ah scheist.
  17. Maybe "burst" isn't the best word...salvo might be better. The sniper only shoots one BULLET at a time, but w/ several bullets in a salvo, he can potentialy kill several men w/ 1 ammo point. Notices how it says "ammo" and not "shots". The only time 1 to 1 ammo is represented is in ordinance. ------------------ Ah scheist.
  18. Ive done this with a alot of German (conscript) and American (green) snipers, each with +50& fanaticism. I maxed out the number of men allowed on each side. I lined up the snipers in marching-type columns (civil war style) and made sure that they started out within about 50 meters or so from the enemy. SO basically it was two huge lines of enemy snipers facing each other and padlocked so thats where the action started. The armies were in open, even terrain and tightly packed together (as close as the game would allow). Each army had several if not more "sections" each w/ two rows of men. I set ammo on "2" so as to make them conserve their ammo and take a little more time in between shots. As I played the first movie (commanding those crazy hessians), the first few seconds were great! I positioned the camera so as to look straight down the relatively narrow space between the two armies and watched the bursts on each side. I felt like I was watching "The Patriot" again. The only problem was, even w/ conscripts and fanatasim at high, too many of the troops broke off. This didn't seem realistic to me, so I decided to put some platoon HQ teams in to boost morale and command strength. Of course, these teams let loose w/ their MP-40s and Tommyguns, so again I was screwed. I set the PHQ units on low ammo, but they didn't seem to do too much in the end, anyway. I somehow totally forgot to add cannon to the mix, also. I never did figure out the best way to get my troops to stay in formation, and regretfully I erased the scenario about two months ago. Seeing this thread might just inspire me to give it another go, though. Thanks, Commissar. ------------------ Ah scheist.
  19. But... Patton got results!!! *Ah crap (covers head)!* ------------------ Ah scheist.
  20. I've been having the same problem just recently (v1.1). It seems that I can only target the base of a building if it is known to be occupied. This is ironic since the upper facade is more in the LOS of my guns than the first floor. ------------------ Ah scheist.
  21. It does. I also remember my friend saying that to reload, you take the mag out and "slap it back in." He told me about how he dropped his and how it took him a bit to find it in the darkness. So the background is live action...but are the enemies? Not that it matters much, nothing beats MILES. ------------------ Ah scheist.
  22. I friend of mine in the Guard told me about a "large truck that came by [his station] and had a combat simulator in it." He went on to tell me about how the operators let several of his fellow guardsmen and he inside where they got to take part in combat simulations. He described it as a room with a screen where you could choose a standard U.S. Army weapon (SAW, M-4, etc.) and commence to shoot "bad guys" on the screen. Later, at my recruiter's office, I was paging through an Army magazine and found an ad for this "FATS" system or what have you. Anyway, does anybody know anything about this stuff and if so, could you tell me why the (Minnesota) National Guard got to "play" with it while us active duty (or DEP) guys didn't? ------------------ Ah scheist.
  23. I don't see how this would really work. You have a one to two foot thick tree blocking a road. You put explosives on the middle of the fallen tree. You detonate. Now you have a two foot gap in between what is now two halves. This may make it easier to role the trees off the road, but probably not in a 30-turn game. ------------------ Ah scheist.
  24. I just recently found that placing several roadblocks on a rubble tile greatly improves the visual appeal. This works especially well if using Tiger's rubble mod. AFAIC its much better than a flat rubble tile and shouldn't cause too much of a problem for LOS or ordinance effectiveness against troops in the rubble/roadblocks. I'll have to run some tests to make sure, though. ------------------ Ah scheist.
  25. It could be done as an HBO original series, but a I for one would favor a bi-weekly, quality WWII show over say...WWII JAG or some other POS that doesn't deserve the title WWII in it. ------------------ Ah scheist.
