  1. Actually, interestingly enough Vadr, I disagree. I believe if the Allied player had the balls to charge through the main gate it would pretty much seal victory. From my perspective as the defender there was no way I could cover the entire perimeter with my force so I simply hoped the Allied player would not take the most obvious place to enter due an assumption it would be well defended. In my case the main entrance was simply picketed by a lonely green sharpshooter that would never have fired even if a force did appear. In my opinion it is not an easy spot to defend due to the speed with which enemy troops could pour through the non wired gap and reach nearby buildings. Once in the compound, the ability to choose which direction to attack by either going down the middle, to the left or to the right makes it almost impossible to defend with any real force due to the relatively meagre defending troops. The other thing to consider is that the Allies could switch direction quickly with their elite force while the ability for the Germans to react is very limited with their relatively green inexperienced squads. I simply thanked my lucky stars that C.A. didn't take the so called obvious route and chose his entry point at a spot where I had at least an HQ unit to fire at his troops as they breached the wire. Regards Jim R.
  2. Whaddya mean! As others have pointed out before in the old CMBO thread days... the mortar crews could always use the stove chimneys to fire those suckers out of the house. Regards Jim R.
  3. Yes, but Steve have you considered the reason why there weren't numerous threads in the past requesting a specialised order to cover an organised withdrawal is because the withdraw command in CMBO simply worked so damn well. Now that the withdraw command in CMBB has been changed to such a degree that your troops frequently panic there is now a constant request for some form of modified, less morale penalising form of withdrawal. Regards Jim R.
  4. Never heard of the Hunter Valley & Margaret River. Are they known for their beetroot growing areas? One area I should most definitely have mentioned was the Coonawarra however. The best damn reds in the world are produced there (not that I've tasted any South African wines yet so I may have to withold my judgement). Regards Jim R.
  5. Thank you very much Mike for all your efforts in making the tournament happen and slavishly posting updates throughout as well as calculating the scores etc. It must be a labour of love because why else would you do it? One must also not forget Nabla who created the basis on which to score "unbalanced" scenario's in the first place. Thanks also to Charl for his generosity in providing such an impressive prize for being lucky enough to scrape through the 2nd round. I'm certainly looking forward to sampling some fine wines from South Africa (and comparing them with our fine local selection from the Barossa Valley & McLaren Vale). Finally, without the scenario's there would be no ROW II in the first place so the efforts of Kevin, Wyatt & Stix are also greatly appreciated in designing the field of battle in the first place... although I have a small bone to pick with Stix as I thought North of Epron was pretty brutal for the Germans! Regards Jim R.
  6. To me, the main problem with the way Combat Mission simulates arty fire is the orientation of the fire sheath. Instead of it being orientated east/west as it is currently, it should be orientated north/south to get a more realistic spread of fire across a target in a typical east/west style battle that C.M. simulates. Regards Jim R.
  7. Wasn't it Pearl harbor? I'll have to check my sources to see which side won that re-enactment. Regards Jim R.
  8. Pak 43. I'd suggest sending the PBEM files to Steve anyway rather that waiting on him to approach you. We'd like this patched before the cut-off point for releasing v1.02 is reached! Regards Jim R.
  9. Good point Michael. I'm all for it if it can be done. Would be especially useful for Marders, SU 76's and the like being as they're so vulnerable to just about anything. Regards Jim R.
  10. Am I the only one thinking that MG's signature line styled How would you like a fu***n' oar across your skull!!!?" - My Dad when I was 9, because we were in seperate rowboats on a stormy lake, and I couldn't control mine...maybe, just maybe could possibly explain his current behavioural patterns? Regards Jim R.
  11. Same problem for me as well MrSpkr. I'm currently playing a PBEM game where I'm almost certain that the not fully identified vehicle is a truck, judging by the noise it's making, the fact it's towing a gun and its graphical representation yet it's described as "Light Armor?" It seems that there may be a small bug with the link up between the descriptions of not fully identified vehicles and the graphic representation. Regards Jim R.
  12. What...versus's Phalanx's or sumfink? I think you have the wrong wargame era. Try some Ancient era ones would be my suggestion. Regards Jim R.
  13. Ahhhh...the Kobayashi solution! Regards Jim R.
  14. Reinald. You might want to email Madmatt direct with that "bug" you have with your CDV version of CMBB. I'm sure BFC would be horrified if they knew that any hull down vehicle was giving the message of "hull destroyed". Regards Jim R.
  15. A quick query T.B. Do you have many more results since you made available details of games completed to date up to about late November? If so, can we request that the updated deatils be emailed? Regards Jim R.
  16. I have seen the occasional smattering of PPSh's amongst German infantry squads but so far, never more than one to a squad. Not that I've played the game all that often yet so there may be occasions where more than one Soviet SMG may be included in a German squad. Regards Jim R.
  17. What's a bleedin' Frenchman doing in a German uniform? Talk about collaboration with a capital C. Regards Jim R.
  18. Another thought on "Hunt & Scoot". Why not make such an order only available to Regular crews or better, or even Veteran crews or better if you think it's too precise for everyday crews to have been able to do in real life. Regards Jim R.
  19. That's right, almost forgot. There's a game or two associated with this thread isn't there. Regards Jim R.
  20. Perhaps if we keep hammering away enough "they" will listen. Think Field of Dreams. Regards Jim R.
  21. Jeez, those bloody midgets are everywhere! Isn't that a tiny Lend Lease Bren Gun Carrier? Regards Jim R.
  22. Reading the saga styled Retreating Monster Tanks I am glad to see that Redwood has reached Nirvana with the Shoot & Scoot command. I'm very glad for him but I still can't fathom why the command isn't Hunt & Scoot instead. Wouldn't it make more sense to change the fast move portion of the order to a hunt command so that as sson as an enemy AFV (for instance) is spotted, your tank/assault gun immediately halts to fire a shot and then bugger off. The problem with the current command is that you have to guess where an appropriate position is to fast move to using the ol' eyeball Mark 1 method. Unfortunately, you can often misjudge or not allow for an unexpected appearance of another enemy AFV which would normally halt your tank/assault gun if using the hunt command. As it is now the fast move order is pretty much always executed and if your AFV is surprised by anything or you've misjudged the distance to fast move, your unit can often end up beingexecuted. I'm just curious if anyone has any ideas about the use of fast move as opposed to hunt? Regards Jim R. [ December 05, 2002, 06:39 AM: Message edited by: Kanonier Reichmann ]
