  1. Nope, I mean the treads reviewing various 3rd party scenaroies, not AAR. But reading good AARs is always an enjoyment. Griffin. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. Expect to see "GriffinCheng76", "GriffinCheng(105)" or "GriffinChengA3E8" more should Forum problems occur again
  2. 420, are you playing CS with in-house lan or public server? Can I jump in? BTW, OT, I usually playing CM during my travel on ferry. Griffin. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 3. ASL aka Advanced Squad Leader. A squad level board game from Avalon Hill. Complex, very complex. I steal the line hehe OTOH, there are a number of screnaroes coverted from SL/ASL to CM, make sure to check out: http://www.asl2cm.com BTT, I was thinking playing Thief Gold/Thief 2. I finished Vampire and Dues Ex before CM comes in (thank god they are both excellent RPG in 2000 ). And now, we have BG2. So these games are not quite installed -- yet: Heavy Metal FAKK 2 Half-life Counter-strike Grand Prix 3 Flanker 2.03 patch Rainbow 6 Rogue Spear Urban Ops Championship Manager 3 00/01 season Worse, these great things are coming: No One Lives Forever Starfleet Command 2: Empires at War Harpoon IV Oni Rainbow Six Covert Ops Essential Panzer Campaign 3 (added) A permanent girlfriend -- at last. 4. This is just in from my regular CGO wargame newsletter. Some food for throughts and hope to raise *real* disucssions: Break-in vs. Break-through: http://www.cdmag.com/articles/030/168/breakin_feature.html A Case Study in Armor and Infantry in West Front and Combat Mission Griffin. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 5. Pillar, Not personal attack but there are a number of game-related issues like pillboxes and cas in ops are being issued. Some topics like "CM in PTO" and "Add TO&E chart to CM" are kinda dead horse. I hope it is just silence before TCP/IP. Griffin. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 6. I always enjoyed the commentary on various 3rd party CM scenarioes and operations. Is there any working in progress? Or is there a web site I can refer to? Thanks in advance. 7. BTW, CDIC, you are checking so as to beat my panzers in our PBEM? Think again! No way! Griffin. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. Expect to see "GriffinCheng76", "GriffinCheng(105)" or "GriffinChengA3E8" more should Forum problems occur again
  8. Another dead horse beat: Many suspect that motars (all sides) in 1.05 are too accurate against AFVs. Check some previous threads on this. My xp: In one QB against human, I killed 2 M18s, each within 1 min after targeted -- and I target the AFVs indirectly using HQ! Back to topic: I have got my Hezters killed by area-fire motars and I vaguely remeber some did get PzIVs. I am not sure about the heavies. Griffin. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 9. BTS, too bad you are looking for CPP ppl only. Anyway, I am afraid CPP will be the basis for all gamings while Java takes over the other parts of the World. Hehe. If the Bungie story was true, it would be the best cover-up since DES. Anyway, if you are looking for some *more* ppl to look after your website or some research, I am happy to be in. 10. Yes, pleanes do appear in Ops and act *exactly* like they do in normal scenarioes Spoilers Alert! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Try 2nd battle in "Villers Bocage", I bet there are at least 2 "units" of CAS to keep your panzers head low. Griffin. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 11. Just when I though my little Java skill won't help...then...please count me in!!! If you need an extra hand or pairs of eyes -- actually 2 pairs in my case -- in historical research, or even an assistant in handling web site let me know. 13. Simon's receipt is not difficult -- sounds like routine to me (yes, I cook for myself every Sun piror to playing BG2) but I think I have problem in buying celery salt here is Hong Kong, gotta dig it out...btw, would adding pasta works? 14. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Big Time Software: After both machines establish a connection, Combat Mission runs a few tests on each system to determine which one is "faster". The most important factor is how well the CPU handles floating point math, so don't be surprised if a 400MHz G4 is selected over a 800MHz P3 (OK, we were initially surprised, but there you go ). The faster machine is determined to be the Host and the other the Guest. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> If you are a regular reader of Tom's Hardware, it is not news that Intel is producing sub-standard floating point unit (fpu) in Pentium line of processors. The current throne to fpu in wintel architecture is Althon. Even the latest Pentium 4 is not in par in that department... To be fair, P4 shines in 3d games areana! 15. Thanks BTS for the update again. BTW, I think you should send offical words to various online mag about the new patch. I suggest you repackage the game as "Combat Mission Gold" so as to force those arragont mag to review it again! I know this idea is evil. Griffin. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 17. Here is one official: <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Simply target artillery on the marker itself. That's all there is too it <http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/smile.gif> The benefits of firing on that location are automatic. They are faster fire for effect and greater accuracy. Any on map artillery/mortar piece that has not been moved since the beginning of the game can fire at it indirectly (i.e. without line of sight). Steve<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Nope, personally, I have never tried one so. AFAIK, no LOS and HQ is needed. I am not sure about if it can also kill a AFV with 1 shot this way. TRP has been discussed a lot since the Gold Demo days, I suggest you do some searches. Hope it helps. Griffin. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 18. I "hate" to agree with Lewis that AFV in CMBO needs improvements especially chain of command in AFV. Moreover, personally I really want to see imporvments in UI say organization and equipmnet chart on-line. Sounds like I am beating a dead horse here. 19. WBW, Yep, I read about the post from the "Scenario" forum. Unfortunately, I can't find the scenario. Please point. Thanks. 20. Actually, as a owner of both Inter/Win and PPC/Mac platform, I would love to see more OpenGL in the upcoming CM2. Actually, quite a lot of Win PC games titles are running engines based on OpenGL -- from current BG2 (FX only) to earlier MDK2, from a user pov, my GeForce DDR screams in OpenGL mode. 22. Normally I drop my head on the table when my computer men did something stupid...Beilive it or not, I don't have much emotion over dead opfor AFV. BTW, some of my favourite quotes: "Can't get enough Tank?" -- from a Computerworld newsletter "Nuts!" for historical reasons. Griffin. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 23. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Big Time Software: In theory, this is not true. An even number of points should equate to roughly the same number of units if each makes roughly the same types of purchase decisions (ie. same experience level, same mix of weapons, same size tanks, same artillery, etc.) However, Charles just discovered a bug that could make the computer not use all the points at its disposal. Generally this bug affects both sides equally, but it is a bit more random when you look at an individual battle. This has been fixed for 1.1. Steve<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Oh, that will be great! Just keep us posted then Griffin. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. Expect to see "GriffinCheng76", "GriffinCheng(105)" or "GriffinChengA3E8" more should Forum problems occur again
  24. Another problem with QB with computer purchases -- US has identical or fewer units than the German opponent. One example is an about-to-surrender game with HPS verteran Scott Orr. We were in a meeting engagement and he has 2 PzIVH, 2 Sdkz253s, 2 Sdkz251 HT + 5 platoons (at least) and I jsut have 3 platoon of grunts + 2 M24 ;( | 1 M3 and 1 MG jeep.... Sounds like I am beating a dead horse here. Back to topic: my limited exp in PBEM QB, I am not sure if QB is less favorable to the defender for I play mostly meeting engagement. I have to agree that it is very hard to make a "big win" unless the attacking side has less or no AFV in the battle. Griffin. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 25. Appearently, Mr. Borg disappears some time after trying to "assimulat" New York Times which publishes a thrunb-up article about CM, iirc. It is not impossible that CM Borg has disgestive problem forbidding his/their appearence here. Griffin. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning.
