1. I've seen many weapons fired in anger, but never a Garand to my knowledge. I'll take your word for it. ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
2. I've done competition ranges with bolt action rifles (Lee-Enfield No. 4) and had no trouble getting off an aimed shot every five seconds during the rapid fire exercise from a prone position. No radical changes of body position are required. Only the head moves a bit to the left to clear the bolt. Accuracy was not as good during this exercise, but it didn't suck either. The distinctive sound emitted by the empty Garand is generated by the clip ejecting from the rifle, not hitting the ground. I'm not sure how you'd fake that noise. ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
3. They can be moved, Teamski. I wouldn't call it easy, but you can push them around. ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
4. Okay, so it's bad practice. So is leading with tanks. That doesn't make it gamey. Are we going to legislate against stupidity now? EDIT: Something "gamey" occurs when a player exploits a FLAW or a LIMITATION in the game engine to his advantage. Gamey is massing 1,000 .50 cals because they are certain to kill a King Tiger. In an ideal game, if something is possible in real life it ought to be possible in the game. No one EVER crossed a minefield on pogo sticks, but that doesn't make it impossible. Not particularly wise, but certainly not impossible. ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me. [This message has been edited by Formerly Babra (edited 09-01-2000).]
5. I disagree that they are dead meat if they use the PIAT. Maybe that's true of zooks and schrecks, but I so seldom play those armies I wouldn't know. I sat in a village with a lone PIAT team and spent its entire ammunition load over three turns, destroying one armoured car and damaging two or three Tigers. The team then slipped away into the woods and survived the game undetected. Besides, I don't feel obligated to do just what my opponent expects me to. ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
6. I look at it this way. As long as I'm sending up a scout, why not give him a PIAT? There's some law or something? ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
7. I love this pic as a great reminder of why painting your motorcycle with zebra stripes will NOT make you more visible. Which way is this ship moving? How fast? Not so easy to tell in your bucking torpedo bomber... ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
8. Phooey. You call that rough? I played Thrash (and Mk IV...and Swamp....) Gotterdamerung would have been merciful, I tell ya. (StuGs suck). ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
9. As an experiment I scanned a side image of a Sherman out of a book, trimmed and adjusted it to the same size as the textures (using MGI Photosuite), and copied it in. It worked. I didn't complete the mod because it was just a test to see if it worked. ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
10.
quote:
Originally posted by Michael emrys: How is it known that those shots wouldn't have penetrated as well, if not better, if the additional armor hadn't been present?

Good question. I do know that it was officially forbidden for Germans to weld anything (hooks, tracks, whatever) to the hull of the Tiger as the welding process damaged the heat-treating and weakened the armour. I wonder if the same was true for the Sherman. ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
11. Cardigan? CARDIGAN???? The LIGHT Brigade???? ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
12. I object to StuGs. StuGs suck. (Hetzers merely blow). ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
13.
quote:
The Islamic Ruling on the Permissibility of Executing Prisoners of War All Praise be to Allah Lord of the Worlds. May the peace and blessings of Allah Most High be upon the Prophet Muhammad who was sent as a mercy to all creation, and may this Divine blessing be upon the family and companions of the final messenger, peace be upon him. The Russian Government has failed to respond to the Mujahideen's demand that the Russian war criminal Budanov be handed over for execution at the hands of the Mujahideen. The Russian Government was warned that should it fail to surrender Budanov, nine Russian prisoners who were caught marauding in a Chechen village would be executed. The Russian Government has since chosen to shield Budanov and the brutal rape-murder that he committed. In response, we the Mujahideen have fulfilled our pledge to execute the nine Russian OMON special police who were in our custody. (See photographs of executed OMON prisoners) We were hurt when some Muslims condemned this action with inappropriate and harsh comments. Some Muslims claimed our actions were wrong, and with lack of knowledge arbitrarily quoted the following verses from the Holy Quran to justify their point of view: "Therefore, when ye meet the unbelievers in fight, smite at their necks till when you have killed and wounded many of them, then bind a bond firmly on them (take them as captives); thereafter is the time for either generosity (free them without ransom) or ransom (according to what benefits Islam): until the war lays down its burdens." [Quran 47:4] And "No bearer of burdens can bear the burden of another." [Quran 35:18] Other critics demanded that we adhere to international conventions that outlaw the killing of prisoners of war and that the rights of each prisoner be respected. We have endeavoured to prepare this document to clarify why our actions were taken and to show the established principles of Shariah that justify the execution of the prisoners. We ask Allah Most High to make us among those whose position (Ijtihad) is righteous. Our clarification is lengthy and specific; it has thus been divided into two studies; the first study will respond to the argument made by some that the Russian prisoners should have been treated according to the verse: "thereafter is the time for either generosity or ransom." The first study will touch upon four issues, all of which are deemed permissible or not permissible according to Divine Law.

Swell bunch of fellas, the moojies. EDIT: No, I didn't post the whole thing. It is quite lengthy. Their reasoning boils down to 1) Infidels don't matter (though they didn't object to our money and guns in the 80s); and 2) Since Israel is considered a western power and since Israel kills prisoners, western treaties mean nothing and can be ignored. In short, there is nothing remotely tactical about it. These are murders intended to inspire fear -- terrorism. ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me. 14. I think they market them in the west as the Ural since they (eventually) figured out nine out of ten westerners can't pronounce Dnepr. Looks neat but it's utter crap. Don't know about the Chinese version. Me, I want me one of them Indian Enfields. 70,000 Rupees will get ya one ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
15. Heh. Those of us in Canada had ours routed by way of Cleveland, Prague and Vladivostok. Hang in there, baby. ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
16. Hmmm... "Exclusive NEW feature on the Children of Iraq being Slaughtered by American Extremists" And these clowns want our support? Gee, just look at all the wonderful things they've done for Afghanistan. The moojies can all go to hell for all I care.
17. The computer needs the VLs to assess control of the play area at game's end. If, however, every tile had an intrisic value, and tiles of a higher elevation had a correspondingly higher value, and none were visible, that would work, wouldn't it? VLs could still be used for specific local objectives such as a bridge, &c. Just musing... ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
18. I would have won. Honest. The A/I cheated on me. You forgot to mention Mk IV (Ausf Gee-Willikers) that 80% of your AFV losses were Stooges and Murderers. Ha! They are the king of suck. ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
19. Sounds like a JgPz IV from the description. They suck. ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
20. My recommendation would be to not play ANY of them solo. There's some damn nice scenarios in there and playing them against the a/i spoils them for PBEM. ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
21. Ah, the "Dnepr" , the beloved "hammer-and-sickle-cycle" (no, that did not say hampster). Straight copy of the '39 R75. It has a quiet dignity as it sits in the shade by the side of road, leaking gas... ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
22. Panther without question, any flavour. ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
23. Ditto on the Churchie VIII. It's 95mm HE is death to hamstertruppen and its hollow charge is murder to hamsterpanzeren. Six inches of armour steel between me and Hans doesn't hurt either. ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
24. But, but... it's a IIC, dammit! We wouldn't be hangin' around if we didn't love the game too. They know that. We just like to think about stuff. ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
25. It is a simple way for the game to check for control of the battle area. It might be better if they were invisible though. ------------------ Sounds like 100% weapons-grade bolonium to me.
