The Sturmtiger had to be loaded externally, with an accompanying crane vehicle, did it not? Or maybe I'm thinking of another beast. ------------------ Years have passed and I keep thinking what a fool I've been; I look back into the past and think of way back then; I know that I lost everything I thought that I could win; I guess I should have listened to my friends All the burning bridges that have fallen after me; All the lonely feelings and the burning memories; Everyone I left behind each time I closed the door; Burning bridges lost forever more

Seeing map before unit purchasing
Formerly Babra replied to Fenris's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Here's one way it could work: After spending at least 75% of available points, the player could THEN get a peek at the map in order to spend the remaining 25% on useful support units. "Hmm, looks a little bushy -- better bring up some more infantry..." The first purchase would have to be locked at this point so the player couldn't go back and re-purchase his whole force. Might work. ------------------ Years have passed and I keep thinking what a fool I've been; I look back into the past and think of way back then; I know that I lost everything I thought that I could win; I guess I should have listened to my friends All the burning bridges that have fallen after me; All the lonely feelings and the burning memories; Everyone I left behind each time I closed the door; Burning bridges lost forever more -
Infantry Smoke Grenades
Formerly Babra replied to JeffRaider's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
I've started cataloguing recorded instances of smoke and WP being used by infantry. Hardly enough yet to justify their inclusion, but interesting.

Too Much Info. It was just brought to my attention that when I select any given unit of my opponent's forces I should not be able to see his plotted ambushes. One of my current opponents was quite surprised to uncover one of my ambushes this way. I've seen it so often, I thought it was intentional. Apparently, or so they tell me, it's not. Also, in another pbem, an enemy Tiger is hidden in some scattered trees. As my forces approach for the kill, a "sound contact" let's me know to what direction he shifted his turret. When the turret stops swinging, the sound contact disappears. That to me seems like WAY too much info. If I can't see it, there's no way I should know which way his turret is facing. Sorry, Mace -- Prepare to be Cromwelled up the bum ------------------ Years have passed and I keep thinking what a fool I've been; I look back into the past and think of way back then; I know that I lost everything I thought that I could win; I guess I should have listened to my friends All the burning bridges that have fallen after me; All the lonely feelings and the burning memories; Everyone I left behind each time I closed the door; Burning bridges lost forever more

Churchill AVRE no HE?
Formerly Babra replied to Ricochet's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
I just tried them out for the first time, solo. I wasn't impressed. No doubt they can squish any German tank out there, but their performance against buildings was unimpressive. I would have figured a 290mm mortar would flatten all but the heaviest buildings, but even light buildings took many hits. I won't be rushing out to purchase any soon. ------------------ I remember it perfectly: The Germans wore grey; you wore blue... -

Public Service Announcement

Royal Canadian Air Farce is useless except for the Chicken Cannon. This Hour is much wittier. Gotta love "Talking to Americans". But seriously folks, there are Canadian peacekeepers on the Golan Heights, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ethiopia, Zgon, and lord knows where else. As Rick Mercer himself says, "year after year, you probably send cards to people you don’t even like so why not spend 46 cents to make the Season jolly for someone who is working hard for PEACE ON EARTH." Just visit the bulletin board and leave a note. They will be distributed to Peacekeeping camps worldwide. -

All right, you Canucks. Stop fondling that beaver and listen up, you slack and idle bags. While you're out Christmas shoppin', sippin' a large Paradiso with cinnamon, and pickin' out that Gucci whatever for that girl that does whatever, there are nearly 3,000 of your countrymen in Bosnia tryin' to keep the world just a little better to live in for everyone. They want -- THEY NEED -- to know you care. Drop by www.22minutes.com and send them a holiday greeting message. NOW. Carry on....
