Who ordered the mac version
Buckeye replied to Panzer Grenadier's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
For those of you using OS 9 (any version) on a G3/4 machine, and experiencing unexpected lockups while playing CM, the manual says that it may be because of the backside cache. Charles recommends downloading the G3/G4 Cache Profiler from Powerlogix (www.powerlogix.com) that allows you to disable the cache. I did, and it definitely seems to help. By the way, the software is free. -
Actually, Fionn, I suspect it's me...but I looked at the setup you sent, and it doesn't look like night to me (unless you're north of the Arctic Circle in summer ). So perhaps you'll get to use those Hummels after all. Yeah, I know I said I was going to bed, but I couldn't stop from at least taking a look. I'll send you my next response tomorrow.

I tremble with fear... Hmmm, now is that a true hint, or a misleading feint, or....
-
Well, it's been asked (and answered) lots of times, but no, you can't watch the battle from beginning to end. BTS hopes to add that as a feature in the future.

The Realm of Uncertainty
Buckeye replied to Wild Bill Wilder's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
As much as I liked Wiltz (giving credit where it's due this time <g>), I'll have to try that one. Thanks Wild Bill. -
Must SPA have LOS to Ind. Fire? (Arrrrgh!)
Buckeye replied to Gromit's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I could be wrong about this, but I seem to recall another thread that mentioned that AFV's cannot use indirect fire. I believe it does require LOS. You could try having the SPA/SPMortar close enough behind a HQ unit, to see if they can spot for them (as you can do for mortars), but I don't believe they can. -
Hi Fionn. Did you get my e-mail? (Only asking because I sent it before your last message.)
-
Hey, Fionn, I've sent you an e-mail, both about the CMMC and a possible PBEM game. I don't have a problem with your conditions. Let me know if you still have an opening.
-
Stupid question, but did you install the system extension that came with the software? And then reboot? I did both, and it hasn't been locking up on me like before (I have an iMac DV SE w/ 192 megs RAM also).

Wiltz scenario (no spoiler)...Thanks, Bill H!
Buckeye replied to Buckeye's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
My apologies, Wild Bill. I got off the computer kind of late after playing the scenario, and was too lazy to go back and check to be sure. But please be assured I really did like the scenario. And I agree that they are all likely to be of high quality; it was just Wiltz that I played first. Thanks. -
I just wanted to pass along my complements to Bill Hardenberger on the Wiltz scenario. I couldn't pass up playing it when I got the game today, because I've been reading McDonald's "A Time for Trumpets," about the Battle of Bastogne, and it describes the battle. I highly recommend it as a fun small scenario.

If you've had problems with the game causing random system lockups, as I did on my iMac, and you're using any version of OS 9 on a G3/G4 mac, the problem may be caused by the backside cache. You can disable the cache by downloading the G3/G4 Profiler (free) from Powerlogix (www.powerlogix.com). I learned this from reading the manual for the game, and it seems to work. The software is very easy to install and use. I recommend it, if you can pull yourself away from the game long enough to download it! (Thanks, Charles/Steve, for the tip!)

Thanks Steve. I thought it was again a no show today, but then I looked closer, and THERE IT WAS!!! The game definitely rocks. Congratulations on a great product. In my first encounter (I can't help myself), I had multiple catastrophic explosions, two of which occurred as a Panzer IV and a Sherman fired simultaneously and picked each other off!!! And then the new artillery explosions...so cool, especially tree bursts. It was definitely worth waiting for. For the rest of you who are waiting, hang in there.

Well, you're likely to get flamed here, so let me answer first: No, you cannot call BTS. They are using USPS, not UPS, for mailing, so there is no tracking number available. If you just ordered last week, the game probably didn't ship until yesterday at the earliest. You'll probably see it next week sometime. (My card was charged last week, I ordered in early 2000, and I haven't received it yet. Be patient.)

BTS, Here Are Some Features I'd Love to See
Buckeye replied to John Kettler's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Tom, bunkers cannot be reduced to rubble, because they are not treated like buildings. The game treats them as if they are armor. That's why LOS/LOF isn't affected by them. There's been a lot of discussion about (1) why LOS/LOF isn't affected by armor and (2) why bunkers are treated like armor. The relevant threads can be found through a search, I suspect. -
Hey, Berlichtengen, you out there? You working on the mods? Or is playing the game taking too much of your time? Well, G4A, sounds like we're both playing the waiting game. You might send an e-mail to MadMatt letting him know you're interested, but are waiting on the game.

My case against artillery effectiveness in CM
Buckeye replied to Count Sessine's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
It's definitely worse to be caught under trees in an artillery barrage, because they create airbursts, which can be deadly even if troops are in foxholes. This is a feature that's implemented in CM. -
MadMatt is looking for a few good men...to convert the MDMP mods. There's a long thread about this on the Tips & Techniques forum, but I thought I'd add it here on the off chance that a talented Mac user wasn't aware of it and wanted to take up the challenge. Anybody listening? Berlie? G4A? (As you can tell, I have time on my hands...the game hasn't arrived yet.) In any case, here's the latest quote from MadMatt... "Yes, an update would be nice on what Mods are being converted. Other than an initial offer from Berch. I havent heard much about the Mad-Dog Mac conversion. If anyone is planning on doing this please contact me via email (or hop on the Chat server later tonight) and I can provide you the files directly. I want the Mac community to enjoy the MDMP packs as well but we need to get a little more organized in this." Madmatt...

Hey MadMatt, I think I'll put a post on the main CM forum about this, because I'm not sure everyone reads the other forums regularly (unlike me, who has time to waste because the game still hasn't arrived...).

OK post HERE to cry about not receiving CM yet
Buckeye replied to a topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Still waiting in Columbus. But my PBEM opponent just across the river, who ordered much later than me, got his yesterday. (Renting of garments, tearing of hair!). -
Top Ten reason's you don't have the game
Buckeye replied to Dittohead's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
LOL. And you're a fellow Ohioan to boot. The humor is much appreciated...and much needed for those of us moping while we wait.
