  1. Well, I had a funny thing happen tonight (to me, at least). My daughter went to the bathroom, and the toilet seat smacked down. I swear the resulting clunk sounded just like that sound we all fear/love when an AFV gets drilled when playing CM. When I heard it, I thought, "There goes another tank...," and then realized I wasn't playing CM. God this game can do funny things to your mind! ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  2. Just a quick comment: You can have mortars fire from woods, either directly or indirectly. It works just fine. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  3. If you're trying to fire at a unit, I'm pretty sure it won't work using indirect fire. You need to fire at an area instead when using a spotter. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  4. I'm pretty sure that if you don't hit "Done" after the turn is over, and you then exit, it is possible for the move to replay differently next time. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  5. If you crank them up to crack or elite level, and place the ambush markers right on the bridge, they might wait to open fire until then. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  6. Hey Birdbrain, I mean Bldrain, "burning" a copy is software piracy. Most of us would like to see CM live and prosper. If you and your friend really like CM, then I'm sure you can scratch up the dough to each purchase it. Too many pirates, and poof, BTS won't be around to make CM2, CM3, etc. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  7. The German rockets are notoriously inaccurate. I never use them unless my troops are a significant distance from the target. As for suicide charges for the FO...well, I suppose it wouldn't be the first time that the SS treated their own to some punishment. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  8. The defender's limit is 1000. The attacker gets more, the amount determined by what kind of game it is. Assaults can get at least twice as many points. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  9. Was the game set up as an Assault? ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  10. They can be used to good effect in city fights, because it's a little easier to bring them forward and because the range is often shorter. You can sometimes scare the other side's troops into running even if you can't see them. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  11. It all depends on who you play, of course. There was a long thread a while back about how PO'ed it gets people when someone just stops replying (usually when they're getting a serious case of whoop ass). It's a little hit or miss, but you try out opponents, and discard those who don't play at the pace you like or who do other things you find a pain (like not finishing when they're getting beaten). How long a game takes depends on how quickly you and your opponent turn files around, as well as the size of the battle/scenario/operation. I can usually do a turn a night on weekdays, and several turns a day on weekends. Quick Battles can be completed pretty quickly (within a week). The larger Scenarios and Operations can take much longer. There are several ladders being established for PBEM games, and you should not have problems finding reliable players on those. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! 12. Anyone been to the World War II Vehicle Museum outside of Youngstown, Ohio? Worth the visit? ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  13. The demo is coded in such a way that there are no other scenarios with which it will work. You'll just have to order the game (or wait for it to arrive if you already have). ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  14. I'm surprised no one has replied. PBEM is a terrific challenge. The AI is fun, but there's nothing more energizing (and sometimes humbling) than a human opponent. Try it, you'll like it. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  15. Having been the victim of the sniper attack that Fionn describes, I can tell you just how much of a pain they can be. Having learned by example, I now use them myself for reconnaisance and for taking out specific high-value units (tank commanders, FOs, etc.). But Fionn, it was a 57 mm gun, not a 76! ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  16. That's alright, Matt...us Macwierdos understand and still love you! ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  17. Haven't seen this on my iMac, and I'm using 9.04. On the whole, I've actually found 9 more stable than 8.6. But then these things never seem to be consistent. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  18. Yeah, but next time, Fionn, keep an eye out for Ami 50 cal MG and zooks! I've learned my lesson! ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  19. I highly recommend Michael Doubler's "Closing with the Enemy." I'm not a grog, or even close, but it has very clear and useful information about US combined arms tactics in WWII. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  20. No, you cannot command squads to use rifle grenades. If you have a zook, it can take out the pillbox from the rear. You might get a squad to use a rifle grenade if you approach closely from the rear, but I'm not sure it has sufficient penetration. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  21. Yup, cable modem here too, but your site's very slow sometimes. But the selection of scenarios is great. Keep up the good work! ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  22. Well, those King Tigers are nice, but I had one knocked out by a Chafee...first shot, too. Very annoying! ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  23. Aikidorat, thanks for the port. I have installed everything now, even the high-res grass, and got minimal slowdowns (iMac DV SE, 192 megs RAM), at least so far. Look forward to the sounds too. Thanks to MadMatt and his team also for deigning to permit the supplicant Mac wierdos to partake of the Mods! ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  24. According to Charles and Fionn, v 1.03 is going to be available "soon." I'm not sure what the difference is between 1.02 and 1.03. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
  25. Okay, Fionn. You might have missed my last message. I'll send it again, along with the setup. But I need some sleep (unlike some people we know ), so I'll do it tomorrow. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
